Tashkent Supermarket Halal Food - Lamb Plov: $9.99 per pound; $19.78 for "small" container containing 1.98 lb of food

It offers hot and cold buffet, as well as packaged soups and salads. A variety of cakes and cookies on display as well as packaged cookies and candy per pound. Not all signs are in English and minimal use of English on items. I finally bought a piece of cake/roll. Employee told me it's pistachio cake but I'm not getting that flavor. Just tastes like a moist vanilla cake with yummy cream filling and some berries.

I won't get my onions, bell peppers, or cucumbers anywhere else, and their satsuma mandarins are also a great find. The meat selection is excellent as well and very fresh. The hot food bar is always worth a stop. Their plov (beef or lamb) is a great deal at $9.99/lb, and the meat is unbelievably tender and flavorful. It often runs out later in the day. The samsa are massive, flaky, and come stuffed with pumpkin, beef, lamb, or chicken. The manti and bilyash are also fantastic. You really can't go wrong with any of the prepared foods. They also carry a wide variety of Central Asian and Eastern European groceries, including seasonings, teas, sweets, pickled vegetables, honey, and more. The bread selection is another highlight, with fresh Uzbek non or lepeshka. The space itself is pretty small and cramped, so it feels more like a quick "grab what you need and go" kind of store rather than a place to casually browse. A line of only a few people can stretch to the back, but the cashiers do a great job keeping things moving. Tashkent also recently opened a location in Manhattan that I checked out, and it's a larger space with even more selection.

Produce wise, they have an abundance of veggies and herbs. Fruit selection is not as varied as you would find in Flushing and I find berries are always pricier here - but if you're in a pinch, it'll do. I love their seafood section - we always get their branzino or sea bass and they do a great job deboning and cleaning it out for us so it's prepped and ready for cooking when we get home. Their freezer sections has your classic American frozen foods and also a myriad of Asian ice creams (like melons, mochi ice cream), frozen dim sums and baos, thinly sliced hot pot/bbq meat, and frozen Thai spring roll wrappers if you choose to make your own spring rolls. The refrigerated section have ready to cook Korean noodle dishes, ramen, and even seitan (for all the vegetarians out there!). After paying for your goods, don't forget to give your parking ticket to the cashier to get free parking!

It's generally empty midday during the week. The fruits and vegetables are plentiful and sales change weekly. The butchers and fishmongers are friendly. The aisles are spacious. The only negative for me is the temperature- it's always so cold in the store (all year long).

Great Wall Supermarket - I went to Bauva for brown rice and bought this one, it was super good price and I liked it a lot.

My fascination with Asian markets goes back decades. I quickly gathered that no visit to Flushing…read moreis complete without at least a quick sweep of Jmart. The place warrants more time than I had that day. The market is immense with a dizzying selection of items. I was amazed walking down the condiment/sauce aisle with more choices than I'd seen elsewhere. I noticed products that were new to me, like black chickens. I learned from a Google search that it's a natural genetic condition causing excessive pigmentation. Apparently the black flesh has a stronger, deeper and slightly gamey flavor with meat that's tender and juicy. Prices seemed fair, business was brisk, and I for one, will return! I'm sure some on staff speak English, but the employees I came across, did not.

I visited around 1:30pm and, unlike many busy markets in Flushing, the atmosphere was lively without feeling chaotic or overcrowded. Maybe i was there at the time? Their fresh produce section is extensive, seafood selection impressive, and there is an abundance of Asian snacks, sauces, noodles, frozen specialties, and hard-to-find ingredients from across Asia. Prices were also quite reasonable considering the quality and variety. This said, their tiger fish was at $54.50 a pound which is on the high end of the market. A major plus is the excellent food court, offering a wide range of delicious options perfect for a quick lunch or snack after shopping. Overall, JMart delivers a very Asian authentic shopping experience right in the heart of Flushing. This is the go to place for my mother in law.

The $6.50 Lemongrass Pork skewers & sticky rice is a generous portion (more than how it looks) & an excellent meal. The marinade is really good! (has fish sauce in it fyi) I randomly picked up a tube of a $1 - 2 banana leaf (or was it pandan?) wrapped grilled thing at the checkout (plantain banana) and it was the most delicious dessert/ snack ever. The filling (banana & rice) was infused with a deep vanilla flavor from the grill. There might be a viral travel video about this item. I haven't seen this (or the taro one) back at the store the last few times I've gone back. Sad. Was recommended to try the Thai ramen cups, which are a lot better. The staff there is very welcoming & kind. Apparently there's a cat that's famous - overheard a customer asking about him by name. This shop is directly across the street from Sripriphai - looks like the spot for the OG Thai businesses in Queens!

Tokyo Market is within arms reach with the essentials you need to grab without having to make the trip out to Flushing or Elmhurst--Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Taiwanese, Indonesian, etc. Just don't expect the selection to be as grand as a supermarket since it is a small shop afterall, but great to taste some of Asia's finest. They also make ready-to-eat snacks and onigiri, though not as extensive as Sakura's. I speak to the owners in Chinese, so obviously they love me, but my friends in the area come here frequently too to grab their favorite Asian snacks since they offer a diverse selection and at reasonable prices. They don't have the most eye-catching storefront, so it can be very easy to miss if you aren't actively looking for it.
