One of the very few places in FH to get my Asian pantry staples. I go between this place and Sakura, though Sakura is strictly Japanese products. Tokyo Market is within arms reach with the essentials you need to grab without having to make the trip out to Flushing or Elmhurst--Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Taiwanese, Indonesian, etc. Just don't expect the selection to be as grand as a supermarket since it is a small shop afterall, but great to taste some of Asia's finest. They also make ready-to-eat snacks and onigiri, though not as extensive as Sakura's. I speak to the owners in Chinese, so obviously they love me, but my friends in the area come here frequently too to grab their favorite Asian snacks since they offer a diverse selection and at reasonable prices. They don't have the most eye-catching storefront, so it can be very easy to miss if you aren't actively looking for it. read more

Small Asian (they have a majority of Japanese and Korean goods, though the staff seems to speak Mandarin) grocery store with some house-made food. I haven't had an issue finding residential parking nearby, though I generally come here in the morning on the weekend, so it probably gets more difficult during prime time. There is metered parking on Queens Blvd. The prices are fair. I've gotten a variety of instant ramen and tinned tuna. The expiration dates are always good, as the closer expiration dated items are usually on sale near the front of the store. The service is friendly. I've tried their Popcorn Chicken over Rice. It's a good portion for ~$5. The chicken is cooked well, though overpowered flavor wise with the sauce, which is sweet and spicy. I've also tried their Scallop Onigiri. It holds together well. The scallops were fresh but non-descript. I prefer to get my onigiri elsewhere. Overall, I like their variety in instant ramen and other dry food items. Visited this Japanese Asian market that had some prepared hot grilled mackerel, fried squid and cold food sushi, octopus salad, daikon. Friendly older helpful couple not speak much English- we got point across easily. Elsewhere there were fresh eggs, mushrooms and frozen seafood freezer. Aisles of fish, oyster, chili and other sauces. My favorite seaweed snacks, little kitty snacks and... What I came for Ta-da! Found the Ramon soup and spoon. Great find. Finally an additional specialty market in Forest Hills, Queens - specifically Japanese ethnic foods as I am still enamored with Sakuraya within the proximate distance. Onigiri (Japanese rice balls), Pocky, seaweed, gyoza including prepared hot food meals to-go. There is a variety of Asian foods in stock. This store is spacious with abundant space to browse and navigate between aisles. I purchase European chocolate biscuits $2.65 which is reasonable priced. Cute little Japanese store. Parking is a problem but Queens blvd is well known for it with heavy traffic. Very friendly staff. They help me to pick out crocs charms $0.7 each for my kids since I'm not familiar with Japanese anime. The store is small but it has a little bit of everything. I got snacks and frozen food. I found Lotte bear cookies in Mango cream filling! They taste very good with mango flavor. Will definitely return! read more

Fulfilling my desire to visit Japan again by finding Japanese themed stores! I've already visited Sakuraya, Sunrise Mart and Taiyo Foods and walked away with food hauls so I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this place! It's in Forest Hills so there's definitely parking and pretty safe considering a fire station is right next to it! Inside is so neat and clean, it looks as if it just opened up recently! The rows are nicely spaced out with enough space to browse and not potentially bump into someone. I think everything is decently priced considering these were imported from Japan and Korea. There are snacks (Japanese kitkat flavors, Meltykiss chocolate, Calbee chips), to-go foods (onigiri, rice bowls), beer and desserts by the front. The middle of the store has the cooking ingredients you might need to try out that Japanese or Korean recipe you've bookmarked for a while. I was surprised to see the amount of Korean foods that were also being sold there like kimchi, binggrae banana milk (three flavors!), melona ice cream (you bet I scooped this up), gimbap ingredients etc. There's also fridges filled with frozen foods and matcha ice cream. Get the waffle ice cream sandwich, you won't regret it! I'll definitely come here again if I'm in the area! read more

Was around the area and I was super hungry on a Friday night. My stomach was growling and luckily I spotted this Japanese grocery market. I got here pretty late when it was about to close and amazingly they were still opened. I saw their hot food selection and just saw 4 fried chicken onigiris. My main purpose was to get hot food and go. Too bad all the other flavors were sold out so I just took 2 onigiris along with a bag of hello kitty chocolate marshmallows to have from time to time. This market has a lot of Asian goods, mostly from Japan. You know the onigiri is authentic and Japanese when it's packed with a lot of sushi rice versus the amount of meat the sushi has. The fried chicken along with the rice and nori seaweed was a good combo in the mouth. These onigiris are a great snack for anyone who is hungry and on the go. This is a store where no interaction is needed with the hot food selection. You just pick your food, pay and go. The cashier was also nice and friendly when I was paying. The only thing I didn't like was the Ito En green tea did not have a price tag so I didn't know how much it was. I know this brand is very expensive so without a price tag, it sure is pricey then. Many cute asian goods in this store, mostly food related though. I recommend coming in early to catch more flavors of their hot food selection or else there's nothing left towards the end of the day. Relatively recent grocery market in Forest Hills, opened in 2020. Name notwithstanding, Tokyo Market offers up plenty of Korean products, in addition to Japanese, which distinguishes it from Sakura-Ya, which is still the mainstay for Japanese goods in the neighborhood. Tokyo Market is located near the 75th E/F station. The interior is spacious, with two aisles leading from front to back; shelves are easy to browse. Refrigerated/frozen products line the left side, including drinks and Japanese beers. Most Japanese goods are up front, including large selections of snacks and prepared foods. From mid-way in to the back, whole aisles have Korean products. A small amount of Japanese cooking utensils and toys are also sold. Just about all basic food staples, seasonings and condiments, frozen foods, savory and sweet, are available for both cuisines. Prices are reasonable for Forest Hills. I'm especially happy to be able to walk to a store to get Korean goods such as gochugaru, frozen mandu, perilla oil, dangmyeon. I haven't tried the prepared foods, which include many of the commonly available Japanese sides (e.g., potato salad, octopus salad, seaweed salad) but would not recommend the onigiri; while wrapped to keep the seaweed away from the rice until time of eating, the rice texture was mushy and a bit too much of it. Another good market for Japanese goods, definitely easier to shop in if maneuverability is an issue at Sakura-Ya. A terrific, local spot for Korean groceries. read more

I purchased kani, seaweed for sushi, rice balls, and golden curry packet. They have a few Korean items in there as well. I picked up a tteokboki (Korean rice cake) packet, and a soondubu packet for nights that I'm feeling Korean tofu soup. Overall convenient place to pick up Japanese and Korean items if you're in a pinch or to shop for snacks. Items were reasonable priced too. I will visit them again! read more

I absolutely love this Japanese market! The shop was so clean and well organized. I love the variety of snacks, especially Calbee hot and spicy potato chips, which I always have a hard time finding. Sad that they had to open during the Covid-19 madness but if anyone can make it work it will be this business. Went in to browse after passing them on the street and it made me very excited! I am very cautious about what stores I enter these days as to not put myself or anyone else at unnecessary risk, especially if it's not absolutely essential. But this store felt so inviting and was so incredibly clean. They have all your Japanese favorites as well as some other items you didn't know you wanted until you saw them. Wow I am so in love with this place. Always walked by it but never went in because I thought I already had Sakura-Ya and has to be loyal! Am I ever so wrong, they not only have Japanese snacks (which they have more of) but they also have lots of Korean snacks and grocery. I thought I was coming in for one thing but when I went in, I was saying ok I want that and that and that, omg there is this and that. I bought a Sakura oreo, Calbee gronola, instant dukboki, can't wait to try all of them. One thing I got and tried right away was the strawberry milk, it is so so good! There's a variety of Japanese chips, crackers, candy, ice cream, and drinks that remind you of a 7/11 in Japan. The staff are also very nice and greet you as you walk in. Love! Good mix of Japanese, Korean and Chinese food. I've been waiting for a store like this to open for the longest time. Bakery items, fresh vegetables, dry goods, refrigerated and frozen food, including frozen meats, seafood and Asian ice creams! Lots of Japanese & Korean snacks, candy, drinks and instant noodles. A small selection of home goods too. Every time I visit they have an expanded selection of things to browse. Staff is very friendly and makes it feel like a real neighborhood store. It looks like they still have some more shelves to fill. I will be a regular customer for as long as they are in business. read more
