I went over the weekend during lunch time and it was very busy. We had to wait for a table and had to give our number so they could call us when a spot opened up. The wait time was maybe around 10 minutes so not bad. The tortillas were delicious but I just wasn't a fan of the taste of the salsas provided with the chips and I also didn't like the taste of my menudo. Something just felt off to me, but with how popular the place was maybe it was just the specific dish I ordered. I've only had breakfast at Potosino but I've had it more than once it is so good. This place can get crowded and parking isn't the best, you'll likely have to park on a neighborhood street if you go during a busy time. But, it's worth the wait and slight parking difficulty, so don't let the time waiting deter you. The salsas are gratis and run on the hotter side compared to most free salsas at Mexican places. You might want to try first if you have kids or people that are sensitive to spicy food with you. Every time I have gotten the standard breakfast which comes with eggs, your choice of meat, beans, potatoes, and your choice of tortillas. Everything is made homemade and is very hot when delivered to you. Like I said, this is not fancy, it's basic but prepared really well. The bites with tortilla, salsa, and various components of the breakfast are fantastic. I want to try lunch one day, but to be honest, if I am near there and they are serving breakfast, I'm getting breakfast. Don't pass this place by, it may not be much to look at from the outside but it's more than worth a stop. read more

Discovered this gem in October when my mom was in town and we happened to be in the Capitol Hill area around lunch time, so popped in at the suggestion of Yelp! Don't judge, but we were really hungry and ordered a large number of menu items. We ordered the pozole, a quesadilla, a few different tacos, a couple of gorditas, their barbacoa dish, a torta and their fresh guacamole and while there were definitely some stand out items, all of it was fantastic and I would order again (well, maybe not the pozole, but that's only because I don't like anyone's pozole). My favorite were the gorditas as they were these delicious fried pockets of dough with really tasty fillings! The owner waited on us and gave us all of his best suggestions and he did not steer us wrong! As others have mentioned, make sure you bring cash. Stepping into the emphatic yellow and red building, you find yourself assailed with mismatched tables and chairs, served water and Atole (we'll talk about this in a second) in mismatched mugs, and jostled by big Hispanic families that are as hungry as you are, yet finding yourself loving every minute of it! As the only two Asian in the entire building, my friend and I stuck out like sore thumbs, but we were treated like part of the family, served drinks in big coffee pots alongside the other customers, and provided Spanish-only menus like everyone else! I only really knew to order a Pastor Torta, and it was chock-full of all the deliciousness I could have ever expected in Latin cuisine! And the Atole! You have got to get the Atole! It's like warm sweet corn soup served in mugs, which seems off-putting, but could have been the meal itself and I wouldn't have complained! All in all, I can not stop raving about El Potosino! Breakfast or lunch, it's always "muy, muy bien" at el Potosino! I've been coming here since the beginning and it just keeps getting better and better. Today I'm having breakfast...Juevos Machaca (made with barbacoa) and it's delicious. I had them adjust the spice because this is authentic Mexican food and they cook for their clientele - which is mostly the Mexican community. The owner Roberto is just the nicest guy and he has mostly his family working here. Ask for a recommendation if you're unsure on what to order as the whole menu is in Spanish. Come for the food and stay for the experience...you won't be disappointed! Remember - breakfast and lunch only as they close at 3 and are closed on Wednesdays! read more

Been it a minute since I have eaten here, they have the best Mexican breakfast in OKC. They have handmade tortillas and they keep the coffee and atole flowing. This place is legit. They serve traditional Central Mexican food (I sound like I know my Mexican food, but I was taken here by a coworker that was born in Central Mexico) and it is deeeelicious. The menu has no English, so having a native speaker was helpful, but the owner was also super nice and helpful so that shouldn't hold you back :) I ordered the barbacoa and my friend had the sopas. The barbacoa was spicy, tasty and filling, and their house made tortillas hit the spot. The owner came around offering seconds of everything, free of charge. While we didn't take him up on it because the portions were ginormous, I thought it was super nice of him to offer. Note that they only accept cash, however when I went to pay the owner said "no problem, just pay me next time" Luckily my friend had cash to cover me but how awesome was that owner?? We eat here weekly. It's always delicious at lunch and brunch is great and easy to get a table typically. The tortillas are handmade, the salads are fresh and delicious, love the Huraches, Sopes, Guiso, and several of the egg dishes. I was excited because the reviews were good and when we came into the restaurant there were a good number of people. They do serve you chips and salsa, and they were definitely really good. They give you two different salsa, one that is mild and one that has a kick. So be prepared, when we got our food I had the eggs with chorizo along with beans, potatoes and corn tortillas. The potatoes were cold when I got them and the beans were okay. The main part of the dish was also just okay, but the corn tortillas were really good. I do not think there was much flavor, maybe I came on the wrong day. The service was great, the waiters were really nice and accommodating. I met the owner of this restaurant through a friend and I thought I would check it out. I like authentic Mexican food more than Tex Mex, and was please to see it was in fact authentic. I had the skirt steak enchiladas and the skirt steak was very tender, a trick that is not always easy to perform. There is no doubt these people know what they are doing, and based on the number of people in the restaurant at lunch, I am not the only one that thinks that.
