I'm really disappointed with the El Pollo Loco in Manteca because of several serious concerns my friend experienced while working there. My friend told me about multiple food-safety concerns. She said food that had fallen on the floor, including lettuce and chicken, was allegedly still being served to customers instead of being thrown away. She also said dishes were sometimes not properly washed and could still have food or soap residue on them. She also had serious concerns about management, especially Christiana and Maria. My friend said Christiana was rude toward employees and would tell her to reuse food that had fallen on the floor instead of throwing it away. She felt like she was being treated unfairly and slowly pushed out after refusing to do things she believed were unsafe. Maria, who was a shift manager, was also a major concern. My friend reported that Maria would cut employees' hours based on whether she personally liked them. She was also frequently on her phone and would sometimes leave during her shift. My friend also reported hearing Maria make racist and extremely disrespectful comments about customers. She said Maria would make offensive comments about Asian customers and make other racist comments about customers based on their race or ethnicity. There was also an incident involving a Black customer who specifically said she had a serious allergy to beans and asked for a burrito without beans. According to my friend, the order was still made with beans. When the customer came back to complain, my friend reported that Maria said, "I'm done with you black people." If this happened as reported, that is completely unacceptable and should be investigated. My friend also frequently felt uncomfortable at work because of the behavior of another employee, Johnathan. She told me that he would repeatedly stare at her butt, and when she noticed him doing it, he would continue staring. This made her feel uncomfortable while she was simply trying to do her job. My friend was only being scheduled around 1-2 days a week, and sometimes even less. She felt that her hours were being reduced and that she was being treated unfairly after speaking up about things she believed were unsafe. Eventually, she quit because of the lack of hours and the way she felt she was being treated. I really hope corporate takes these concerns seriously and investigates this location, including the food-safety issues, management behavior, treatment of employees, reported racist comments, and employee conduct. Customers deserve to be treated with respect, employees deserve a safe and professional workplace, and food allergies should always be taken seriously. read more

The owners of the house and I were figuring out what to eat and we ended up with El Pollo Loco. I've only eaten at one and that was around ten years ago, during Lent, when they have Shrimp tacos. The owners of the house have food from this restaurant occasionally, so I didn't mind trying something new. They got the 12 piece family meal with mashed potatoes and gravy and pinto beans, one other included side, and a salad. I got an Original Pollo Bowl with a Large side of Macaroni and Cheese. There was $1.40 difference between the regular and the large. Ordering through Doordash seemed rather expensive. $47+ for the 12 piece family meal was quite a bit and in the end, it was almost $90.00. I have sticker shock most every time we order together. The food was on the way before I noticed and the Dasher arrived with one large bag of hot food. I paid the extra fee to get it more quickly. The Pollo Bowl reminded me of the Del Taco Fiesta Bowls I used to get. The Macaroni and Cheese was not stuck together. The regular chips and salsa were included but it looked as though they gave me broken tortilla strips and chips. Everything tasted fine, though. The owners of the house were satisfied with their food, as well. I appreciate that there were no loose lids and therefore, no mess. No one included plates, utensils, or napkins, though. Periodically I come to the area for doctor appointments and other meetings. I don't do fast foods often but sometimes I will. On yesterday, May 29, 2024, I went through drive-through and ordered two chicken and cheese wraps with a side of creamy cilantro dressing and pico de gallo. I also got a glass of ice water and they charged me a dollar for the cup. They also charged me $1.98 for the two sides of creamy cilantro dressing. I drove off, and got on the freeway headed back to my home city of Folsom as I was eating. I noticed that the chicken cheese wraps were made with old meat and the two sides of creamy cilantro dressing was actually not creamy cilantro dressing. It was some other type of that they were pushing off, you will see the color of this imposter. Because I had to keep my eyes on the road I relied mainly on my taste buds. I knew that it tasted funny when I first dipped my wrap into the sauce. When traffic came to a stop I was able to look down at the Dressing. Creamy cilantro is green and color and it does not have specks of something in it like this particular dressing did. I called El Pollo Loco to tell them about the nasty food that they gave me as well as this imposter of creamy cilantro dressing, but no one answered the phone and I got a voicemail that said the mailbox is full. The only delicious thing about my trip. There was the ice water which is probably non-filtered but because I was thirsty, I needed to drink some water to hydrate. I waited a few minutes and called back. I received a young lady who stated that she gave me creamy cilantro dressing, and I told her she did not and that the meat she gave me was old and the rolls were not properly prepared they were not tasty at all. She proceeded to argue with me about my food when I know creamy cilantro dressing when I taste it well when I see it, and the fact that the meat was old and dry and was not of a consistent consistency in the role that had no cheese, but was fried she started to argue. I believe that this chain of restaurants should be closed permanently until they can get some qualified and quality staff on board who loves to serve the public. Everyone that I have been to as well as places where others have been have experience the same issues. They should close this place down and the owner should take some responsibility for the subpar and dangerous food that they are serving. It's so hard to find such good costumer service nowadays! The staff is amazing and so is the food. I grabbed an individual meal and the chicken was so delicious and juicy, props to the cook! Ordered the meal for two, $10.99 meal for two with a Diet Coke. Suppose to have 2 drumsticks, two thighs, two sides, salads, and two churros. Should have known things were not going smoothly when wife was charged over &18 for a coupon deal. Cashier had rung items up one by one. Cashier warned me that if self service machine diet coke dispenser may not be working. And to let him know. Well, it had no syrup, and I mentioned it to employee by pick up area. She said to let cashier know I wanted diet, and they had a drive thru dispenser that was working. Remember, I had originally ordered a Diet Coke. Back to cashier to get the Diet Coke, who was being corrected about the coupon deal! Back to our food Easily recognized the two drumsticks, but what were thigh pieces were two squarish pieces of grilled chicken. Just strange that they weren't the more triangular pieces that you get when you buy them at the supermarkets. Or even when you cut up a leg quarter or drumstick and thigh from a whole chicken when you can easily cut them at the joints. Well, upon pulling off the skin and shredded pieces of meat, there was no thigh bone to be found. Only boney backbone and some part where the thigh was attached. The second thigh had the boney back and only half a thigh bone. Both pieces were lacking the usual tender, juicy thigh meat. I went back to the pickup counter, and pointed out that my thigh pieces did not have any thigh bone, and mostly back bone. The service lady pointed out the leg bones, and the back bony pieces as the thigh portion. No way, I said! The thigh bone is one complete bone and a bit shorter than the drumstick! She continued to convince me that the boney pice was a thigh. I replied, refund me my money or give me two pieces of chicken thigh. She stomped back to the prep area, took couple hard walks with the cleaver, and brought them to me. She pointed to the pieces she had cut, and with a fork said "Here's the thigh bone!" Trying to show they were same as I had cut up. Well, not being able to see the thigh bone, I retreated to our table with two thigh portions. And yes, there was a nice meaty thigh portion and bone in the new pieces! As I was reading some other reviews, Popeyes thigh portions, also have some boney parts that are attached to their fried portions that make them look larger. Any way, to serve a thigh portion that contains no thigh bone is a dead giveaway that the cleaver missed its mark or this is attempt to cut costs. Made experience very disappointing this time.
