I worked here as a dishwasher. If you all saw what I did you wouldn't eat anything from there. The owner can't get over himself , pay a fair wage, and take advice. He may own the place but I have far more experience in the restaurant business than him ,even if I'm only washing dishes. There was a huge fly problem. I suggested he move the trash dumpster further away from the building. I was taking out the garbage so there shouldn't have been a problem. Then I suggested that he buy a fan that blows air at high volume above the door. To keep the flies from coming in. They cost about 150 dollars. He didn't take that suggestion either. Maybe, it wouldn't be such a bad problem if he covered stuff. They don't cover ANYTHING after they cook it. Flies land at will and take care of business and fly off to repeat it on some other uncovered food. Covering stuff with lids is kitchen 101. So, guess what you all are eating in abundances other than food? I have other things like open bags of yeast that had nats flying out of it. They don't sanitize ANYTHING properly. Coke machine should be clean every night, it isn't. There's a washing system, when I when asked about it, they had NO clue what I was talking about. The system is scrub, rinse, and then dip in sanitizer, like two caps of bleach to 5 gallons of water. He kept getting onto me about running everything through the dishwasher, saying it cost too much. Well, they don't have three sinks for the last step, sanitizing, that's why they went through the dishwasher. In case you all are wondering?! Yeah, I sure did get myself fired. Can't say I regret it. I have worked in in serval prison kitchens that where a lot cleaner than this place. See IF I was running the place NOBODY would enter the place and have to wait 15 minutes JUST to be greeted by somebody. No sur chargers that Mastercard and Visa both forbid. Obviously there wouldn't be a fly problem. So, my question is to the people that eat there........ How's the "secret" sauce taste? read more

First, we ordered queso which they call cheese dip. This should have been our first clue that this is not the Mexican food we are used to in Texas. The cheese dip never came. We had to ask for it again. It was good. We ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas. The steak was not steak and tasted awful. The chicken was ok. The shrimp was good. Pretty ho hum middle of the road kind of place but better thank nothing. I ordered a couple quesadilla and it was one tortilla folded up like you microwave for yourself at home. I was expecting a traditionally quesadilla with two tortillas like every other place that makes them. Not very filling especially for the price. The guac and salsa were decent. When we came in, we ended up waiting/ standing a lot longer than expected considering no one even acknowledged us there. This was disappointing and we felt the entire time being somewhat ignored while we saw the waitress constantly attending to the other guests. Being the only family of color there, at the time we certainly didn't want to assume it was was because of that, but we moved on. Now the food was excellent, it took a little longer to come out than patrons that came after us to the restaurant but it was delicious. Supported this business for 8 years. They continue to give smaller portions of less than average food, while raising their price even to charge a surcharge is you pay with a credit card. El Poblano was slightly better than anticipated. We ordered margaritas but they tasted like virgin kook-aid. The fajitas would be better cooked in and served on a sizzling hot fajita skillet that's caramelizing the onions and other veggies. Your prices reflect the full experience so please give us the other half of the effort. Just a few friendly suggestions: 1. Music... put on some mariachi music playing softly in the background. 2. The TV that you have, put it on Sports and push the mute button instead of just having it on the wall doing nothing (turned off). 3. Margaritas... make REALLY good ones and "they" will come! Customers that is. Lol The restaurant truly does have potential, and pretty good Salsa too. Just step it up a notch and you'll have that place packed daily! You can do it. You are half way there. With very little competition in the area you should be able to capitalize very easily! Keep the prices where they are but have a little fun with your customers and draw them in with good drinks and entertainment then once you get them there serve them awesome Mexican food. When we first entered the restaurant, it was very busy, and there was a family of 4 just ahead of us waiting to be greeted and seated. No one acknowledge we were there till it was time to be seated. (Only a 10 minute wait) Once we sat down, it was all excellent. Started off with the chips and salsa, and of course a margarita (decent). Both the wife and I had the Chicken Poblano over rice, and man it was a good sized portion. The sauce had me diving in for more even though I was stuffed. My family was visiting Fairfield Bay for a week before school is back in session for our home state, IL. There are very few options for food near the resort. We all love Mexican food and decided to give El Poblano a try and I'm so glad we did. We follow a fairly strict Pescatarian diet and they had tasty options for us as well as chicken, beef, and pork for our kiddos. The queso was so good. I've had queso from many places and honestly, this is some of the best I've had. Our daughter's even requested that we pick up an extra container for the long ride the home, which we did. All the food was good. I mostly ate tacos with rice, beans, guac, lettuce, tomatoes and grilled pineapples - so good. My hubs had fish tacos and loved them too. And of course we indulged on the chips and queso . It's addictive! My daughter had carinta's and said they were pretty good. The meat was well seasoned. She didn't end up using the shells, she just made a bowl out of it and ate most of it. If you're looking for a good meal with fast friendly service, you'll find that at El Poblano. read more

We had street tacos, fajita nachos, hamburger, and chicken strips All of the food was made fresh and was very good. There was no wait time at 630 pm or at lunch. Street tacos-you. Can choose traditional or campechano. I chose traditional two chicken, 1 steak. They are served on corn tortillas with lots of cilantro and onion. I added a drizzle of their queso and they were perfect! The nachos are huge, lots of meat, tomatoes, peppers, and onions over a ton of hot chips. They are topped with white queso and a little shredded cheese unless you ask for lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. Hamburgers and chicken are handmade and served with AMAZING fries. The chicken is thin cut breast, battered and fried-not frozen! We ate here twice while on vacation. First trip we were treated politely as guest. Second trip we were treated like family, chatting a little when they refilled drinks and teasing our kids a little. A great place in a little resort town. Not many options on the Sunday night before Thanksgiving. We came to Fairfield Bay for a weekend getaway and the reviews almost kept us away. We were greeted as we came in and told we could sit where we would like. Waited on immediately for drink order and brought chips. The chips were hot and delicious. Salsa we loved, very flavorful, with a hint of garlic. Ordered small cheese dip and it was delicious as well. I ordered the veggie combo plate, one enchilada, 1 tostada and one burrito, the burrito was cool, the cheese enchilada was so oily, greasy and slimy I could not eat look at it. The only thing good on the tostada was the lettuce, what little there was. The red sauce they poured over the enchilada and burrito was cold and tasted overcooked. The burrito and enchilada tortilla were not cooked, and the greasy enchilada tortilla was even more goopy becuase of the slimy greasy cheese (if that was what that white stuff was). One of the meals was so hot they had to wait until it cooled before taking a bite. We all had ordered something different and none of us enjoyed a good meal leaving 3/4s behind. 3 of us were served our meals while the other two had to wait. The refried beans were watery and flavorless, the rice was very dry and flavorless too. I was going to use the facilities to wash my hands after eating - Had I gone there first we would have left before ordering. Service was less than ok - young child bringing the chips to snack on, the sauce for the tortilla chips was very watery, our server could not remember who ordered what and there were only five of us. On top of the awful meal - the cost was outrages for those meals. Even though there are limited options to eat in Fairfield Bay - better to pick up something from a gas station. We will never go there again when we return to Fairfield Bay in September. Are there no health inspectors in Fairfield Bay? El Poblano is a fantastic restaurant! It is family owned and run. The staff is welcoming, efficient, and friendly! The menu offers a variety of delicious dishes at amazingly low prices. We (4 adults & 2 kiddos) ate there 3 nites out of our week long stay and enjoyed it every single time! I feel that it's a great balance of flavors & options for those who love Mexican food, (as we do!!!) as well as for those who might not. We're going to miss it now that we're back home. Menu has a good selection. There is a make your own combination section that has good options. Price is right. Everything was very tasty. Kids even like the flutas. Chile rellenos were good but they had a ton of seeds, so eating was a little difficult. Husband really enjoyed the fajitas (shrimp). Chips and salsa with a kick are served as normal in any Mexican place. However, service is painfully slow. I don't think our waitress checked on us the entire meal. There were only 2 waitresses for the whole place and I think they tend bar and clean tables also. More help would improve the experience greatly. read more

Some of the most delicious Mexican food I've had. The chimichanga has great flavor in the chicken unlike other Mexican joints that just fall short to me. The tacos on taco Tuesday are delicious at a great price and they're even better cold. No fake taco seasoning used here! The staff recognizes regulars and treats you like family, and there is a happy hour on taco tuesdays.
