I stopped by this Mexican taco truck because I was seriously craving some quesabirrias like "I need them NOW" craving and let me tell you, I was NOT ready for what they served me. The staff greeted me with the friendliest energy, super welcoming and the prices were honestly very reasonable considering how many options they have. Their menu actually surprised me, a lot more choices than your average taco truck. I came in expecting some mid quesabirrias. But LORD! When that plate hit the table I swear I heard the angels singing. The smell alone had me thinking, "Okayyyy, maybe these are legit." Then I saw the SIZE these were not little baby tacos, these were big, cheesy and juicy. The meat was insanely tender, super juicy, and packed with flavor. You can tell they take their time with their birria. The tortilla had that perfect crisp with melted cheese hugging everything together. The onions and cilantro super fresh. Every bite was fire. They also have limited seating, but honestly kudos to them it works and it doesn't take away from the experience at all. These might seriously be some of the best quesabirrias I've ever had, no joke. If you're craving authentic, flavorful Mexican food, this spot is 100% worth checking out. I'm definitely coming back! read more

¡Hoy ordené unas Quesabirrias y me encantaron! (Mi orden para llevar) Bien cocidos, muy llenitos de carne, estaban super servidos!! La atención fue rápida; la señorita de la caja muy amable. Tienen una pequeña estación de salsa verde y roja y, puedes servirte pepino. La salsa verde la recomiendo. Deliciosa. Aunque sea un food truck tienen espacio para comer al aire libre, están bien ubicados. Igual están ubicados en una estación de servicio y puedes comprar dulces, chips en caso de que quieras un postre, o sencillamente acompañar tu comida. No coloco 5 estrellas porque el consomé no fue mi top, puede estar mejor. Sin embargo recomiendo la locación, me gustó mi comida. Claro que regreso. read more

This place is clutch! Ignore the bad reviews, they've never had good Mexican food before. Service is quick, I think sometimes there's a line during lunch. My food came quick. Hold onto your ticket and listen for your number. They have self serving salsa and toppings which is convenient. I got the al pastor and chorizo. It's a typical food truck on a busy street. There's some seating, most people pick up their food and leave. Their Jamaica is fresh too. read more

Why do taco trucks at gas stations taste so good? Every item on the menu was cheaper than 2 gallons of gas, so relatively a good deal. I was especially a fan of the quesabirrias, which are having a moment right now. Quesabirrias: I'm actually glad that quesabirrias are getting so trendy that you can find them at random taco trucks now. Theirs was pretty standard with the stewed shredded beef, melty cheese and crispy double corn tortilla. And, of course, the yummy consommé for dipping. Probably my favorite item here. Though could have been crisped a little longer, since it got slightly limp after carrying it home. Pastor Quesadilla Super: Kinda looks like a burrito that's flattened and toasted a bit. Except no rice or beans, but loads of cheese and meat! Loved the crispy griddled texture against the melted cheese. The pastor didn't seem like it was roasted on a spit though. Seemed more like matchstick sized pork that was griddled up in spices along with a few pineapples. Similar taste, but not different texture and not as smoky. Carne Asada Burrito Super: Thick and filling. The carne asada was tasty, but there was so much rice it kinda got overshadowed. Though all the super ingredients helped flavor up that rice. read more

I came to get my car washed and saw the big line outside this big red taco truck parked in the parking lot. I ordered a 10 dollar loaded breakfast burrito. What a deal! I was not disappointed. Loaded with lots of fluffy, scrambled eggs, potato, avocado and bacon, (I got mine without sour cream, who needs that?) this steaming hot and flavorful breakfast burrito went down perfectly with their complementary green sauce. I'll be back to check out the tacos and quesadillas too. I highly recommend if you're in the area and hungry to stop by. read more

So thankful this truck is posted up the street from where I work. They always serve delicious burritos and quesadillas and tacos! They are also fair priced for the location in the city! They have good staff and their salsas are really good to go with all the food they offer! For the price I pay for a burrito here - they give a good size! & Whenever I order shrimp - they don't skimp! They give more than 5 shrimps in a burrito and they are large in size - cooked to perfection and juicy! I love the convenience the quickness and the yumminess along with kind smiles from the staff! I am for sure a solid regular of this truck and am glad they are posted close to my work! I walk the long block - even in the rain - cuz its worth it! read more

I've had both the pastor taco and super asada burrito and found both to be quite good. I also really like Taqueria Cazadores across the street and I think it would actually be pretty hard to pick between the two. I think El Picacho is open earlier though so it's a great spot for a little taco breakfast (but not a breakfast taco). read more

3.5 STARS I'm one of those jerks who judges the authenticity of a taqueria or taco truck by the meats they offer. If they offer offal like buche, tripes, cabeza, and/or lengua, they're legit in my eyes. I was on Yelp looking for new places to eat near the office when I found El Picacho under "Hot and New Businesses". When I saw that they had lengua on the menu, I did the *happy dance* in my chair. Finally, a new non tech bro eatery in the area! El Picacho is a taco truck that's located in the Tower Car Wash/Chevron Gas Station on Mission/Van Ness. They serve typical taco truck fare: tacos ($2.50), tortas ($9), burritos ($8.75-$9.75), quesadilla ($8.25-$9.50), and flautas ($12). With Taqueria Cazadores just steps away, El Pichacho was smart to price their items .50 to $1.50 less, though Cazadores gives you free chips. Cc's accepted via Square. **Meat choices: carne asada, pollo, pastor, carnitas, tinga, pescado, camaron, chorizo, lengua, and veggies. I noticed several "dine-in" reviews with pictures. Not sure if they posted it to the correct business page since this is a taco truck. I didn't see any tables or chairs for dine-in but there's several stools against the ledge of the taco truck. I ordered a Regular Lengua Burrito w/ no rice and avocado ($8.75 + 75 cents for avocado): http://bit.ly/2viWvLS. Let's start with the good: The tortilla was nicely grilled so it was warm and toasty, and there was a good ratio of beans and lengua. The pinto beans were tender but still had a good bite to them. They have a cute little salsa bar in one of the compartments of the truck. There's three salsas: chipotle (?), salsa verde, and a roasted tomatillo. The latter was my favorite (tangy and spicy). Now, the not so good: Very sadly, the lengua wasn't cooked long enough so it was chewy. Several chunks were of gristle that I had to spit out. In one half of the burrito, I was surprised to find a HUGE piece of gristle and fat, the size of doorstop. There was no line to order and I was the only one there so I wish they took more care in cutting the lengua. I was also surprised to find shredded iceberg lettuce in the burrito - maybe it was by mistake? The family who run the truck are very nice and I'm glad to have another option near work but I have to round down because the lengua was just poorly cooked and cut. I'll revisit in a couple of weeks and hopefully I can post a 5 star update! read more

This place is delicious! I use to go to the food truck across the street from this one and they always mess up my order and the workers there are never friendly. At this place, the workers ALWAYS has a smile on their face. They listen to what you order so your order is always correct. When they call you from the passenger seat to give you your food, they always give it to you while smiling. A smile goes a long way. I feel welcomed here every time I come here. I ordered a couple things from here, but my favorite is the tacos! I even come here when it's not taco Tuesday and pay full price for the tacos which is totally worth it! I always get 4 tacos. 2 chicken tacos for sure, the other two I tend to mix it up. I would carnitas one day, carne asada the next time I go, or something else. Never fails! But just to warn you, I don't usually like spicy, but the sauce they put on the tacos are super spicy!! So I have to ask for no hot sauce. The tacos are marinated very well. The onions and cilantro are always fresh. The combinations from the corn tortilla, the marinated meat, the onions, and the cilantro is absolutely fabulous! I also ordered a super chicken quesadilla, which had plenty of chicken. Also, their super burritos are very packed with ingredients. If you are very hungry, this place will fill you up! If you are not that hungry, you will be able to make 2 meals out of your food! Let me stop writing so I can show you these goodies! read more

Delicious fresh food served with a smile. Standard Mexican taco truck menu, with plentiful portions--and generous with the fancy ingredients, not just rice and beans--at a good price. The ingredients taste fresh and they take care of those little details--like lightly grilling the tortillas in the burritos--that make the difference. Tried this truck for the first time. I used to always eat at the truck across the street back when I worked on the block, but this spot must have opened up well after I left. Got transferred back so I had to check it out. So far I've tried the breakfast burrito and a carne asada super taco. Both were super tasty, and their salsa is terrific. Their prices were also reasonable, cheaper than the neighboring truck. Will definitely be back! read more

Holy heck, I finally found THE place for Barbacoa in San Francisco. I stopped in at el Picacho at noon on a Thursday, expecting the usual excellent, but run-of-the-mill San Francisco taco truck tacos. And then I saw the Barbacoa in the bottom left corner of the menu. Ordered two, in memory of the good old days driving up the highway toward Toluca from Mexico City. Chilango yelpers will know what I'm talking about. They were perfect. Barbacoa was tender and juicy and perfectly flavored, tortillas were awesome, and the service was smiling. Thanks for bringing back good memories, El Picacho! read more

A simple food truck outside my apartment, wonderful. I had 3 tacos. All of which were flavorful and distinct. I highly recommend the chorizo due to the fact that it's flavor definitely stood out the most for me. The only downside is that the price for quantity might be a bit skewed; but that is not going to stop me from coming around to trying more. Not negging it for having hours that are just about impossible for me to get it, but take into account that they're only open on weekdays and for a very limited time. read more

Ordered two SUPER pollo tinga (shredded chicken) burritos last night at my niece's school for fundraising. A super burrito costs $9.75 and a regular at $8.75. With that said, I was duped!!! I got two regular burritos instead with chicken bones in them, no less! Ugh...and to think I gave them a tip, too! Learned my lesson. Burritos were average at best, but then again it came from a food truck. Should've gone with the Gravy food truck instead. My husband, sister and niece chose wisely. No wonder the lady that ordered before me was upset and yelling at them before I got my order? At least my money went to my niece's school...I hope it did!!! read more

The carne asada and pollo asado tacos were great. Next time, I'll try the pescado. Too nervous to go straight to fish on the first visit. Could have. Salsas were fresh and good. Had the usual accoutrements. Nice to score lunch during the car wash. read more

Decent taco truck fare. Carne Asada is on point. Tripas was on the mushy side. My favorite so far was a regular Carne Asada quesadilla. Regular burritos are on the small side, Super burritos are on the big side. If you are nearby and don't have time to go down the street to one of the taquerias in the mission, this is a must stop for a quick lunch. read more

I wasn't too hungry, so I grabbed a Super Lengua Taco, while my friends grabbed burritos, we ended up grabbing 3 complimentary chips and guac/salsa with our order and the food came out pretty quickly. When I saw my Taco I forgot how much they stuffed it and wow, two of these would've filled me up just like a taco; there was so much Lengua that it kept falling off after every bite. The flavors all came together and I scruffed down the whole thing after about 6+ bites! Definitely a place to come to if you're looking for a full meal, or something to snack on!

The most seasoned mezcal drinker in the group said it was the best mezcal tasting he had EVER been to. The folks at the networking event just hung out after the fact because they felt so comfortable in the cozy space, and everyone said they wanted to come back and try more things. A++. This place is famous for their burritos and especially the "Dorado style," which tastes amazing -- BUT what they don't clearly disclose anywhere is that the Dorado style burrito is cooked in pork lard unless you specifically ask for it "dry" or with vegetable oil. As someone who does not eat pork for religious reasons, finding that out after already eating there was honestly really upsetting. And the frustrating part is that there is NO clear sign or disclosure telling customers this. If I never asked, I would have had no idea. I actually still like this spot and appreciate that they at least offer a dry/vegetable oil option if you ask, but customers should not have to investigate ingredients themselves to avoid pork. Jewish, Muslim, vegetarian, and other customers deserve transparency. A simple sign or note on the menu saying that Dorado style is prepared with pork lard by default would solve this issue completely. Great food, but this absolutely needs to be disclosed better. One of my all time favorite spots in general.

This is the only place on Mission St that serves a super taco as if it is actually from Mexico, with charred onions, chopped jalapeño, and avocado. It's an order at the counter, sit down spot, and it typically takes 10-15 minutes to get the food. There's a good amount of seating but at 9pm on a Thursday is was full and we had to wait a few minutes for a table to turnover. At night, it's on a section of Mission St that can get a little rowdy, but it's right near BART.
