First time visiting this location - what I will say first is that the entrance is at the BACK from where you pull into the parking lot. It was confusing and some bar patrons had to point us in the right direction. But anyway....we were greeted upon entry and promptly seated. Our server was very attentive and friendly. It's a cute space with a large bar that is both inside and outside. Food came out way quicker than our drinks did, but that's ok. The drink was huge and tasty, the food was good. The only issue I had with the quesabirria was that they used more dried/larger spices (leaves, etc) and it provided a strange texture when taking a bite that I had to end up spitting out little bits here and there - gross, I know - sorry. But it did taste good.

The food is great! Everything is fresh and nicely prepared. The service is spot on. Friendly and appropriate check frequency. The ambiance has an updated Mexican flair. I had the chicken (grilled with tomatoes , my favorite) and it was wonderful. The salsa is mild, but you can ask for hot sauce. The chips are limitless. Mmmmm

We love el patron!! We've been three times since they've opened and every time has been fantastic. Idk how anyone could write a bad review. Food is fresh and delicious. You can even see them making the tortillas!!! One of the nights we went was a Friday and the vibe was fantastic- we got a drink at the outside bar while waiting for our table (which was so nice and service was great) and they even gave out free shots to tables while eating lol. I'd highly recommend the Texas burrito, chicken quesadilla, carnitas enmoladas (10/10!!), and carne asada con huevos estrellados. We had a visitor come from out of state and he loved the food as well!! Couldn't stop talking about it. Definitely check this place out if you havent yet.

It's not my favorite type of Mexican restaurant, as it's a little more upscale than I *personally* prefer, but if upscale Mexican is your vibe, then this'll be the perfect restaurant for you! They had an alright selection of beers, to include a couple of IPAs, but my friends and I didn't really enjoy their cocktails. They were expensive, but lacking in much flavor or zest. Besides looking cool, the taste didn't really match the aesthetic. Furthermore, the food was solid, but not that much better than your basic Mexican restaurant. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough, but he always seemed to be in a hurry, and was walking away while we were still trying to give our order. All-in-all, I'm probably making Matador sound worse than it was, but it was merely a slightly above-average Mexican experience, not a transcendental dining experience that I'll never forget. I'll give it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it based on your personal preference.

I have never had a bad drink here. I got the Batata Clarified Milk Punch (description in picture) which was fantastic. The toasted marshmallow garnish was a great touch for the season we were in. My mom got the Bourbon and Clyde and she said it was incredible. Description also in picture. The orange foam and pistachio crumble was a great addition. Another great drink for autumn. My second drink was the Smokin Indo which was probably my favorite. They performed the smoked glass technique with applewood which was not only cool to watch but added a unique flavor to the drink. We always make a point to get the assorted cheeses when we are here because they make a great charcuterie board. They switch up the cheeses just like they change their cocktail menu. Love to sit at the bar because it is truly an art to watch the bartenders make these drinks and really adds to the experience. Everyone who works here is super kind and knowledgeable on their craft. However, if you are able to be there when the two Doar brothers are working it makes it truly special. They give postcards with their check and there's a bowl of matchbooks sitting on the bar. One of the best cocktail bars in Charleston. Debated writing this because I selfishly want to keep it under the radar but it definitely deserves its accolades.

The service was on point and the bartender was killing it at the bar - multitasking making 3 drinks all at once. It was super impressive and I took a few videos of him. I'm giving 4 stars because the first cocktail I ordered was SO SWEET that I couldn't get it down. I tried to drink it but had to send it back. We asked when we ordered about the flavor profile and supposedly it wasn't sweet, but all 3 of us agreed it was way oversweet. My black manhattan was phenomenal and my husband had a mocktail moscow mule that was awesome. Overall, I'd come back again - just be mindful of the ingredients in the drink and modifying as needed for sweetness. Make a reservation if you can!

The menu had a lot of great options, to the point where I easily could have picked multiple dishes to try. For drinks, we ordered the Adeline cocktail, a Negroni, an espresso martini, and a special that was similar to a margarita. All of the drinks were well-balanced and enjoyable. The espresso martini was good, but pretty average -- nothing that really stood out compared to others we've had. For appetizers, we got the tuna crudo and a 1/2 lb of the roasted shrimp. Both were very good, but the shrimp specifically was incredible -- honestly some of the best shrimp we've ever had, and we go out to eat a lot. Next time, we'd probably just order that on its own as our appetizer. For mains, we had the swordfish and a special lobster ravioli. The ravioli itself was filled with corn and polenta, with about 2 ounces of lobster added on top. Both dishes were very good, nicely portioned (not too large), and beautifully presented. Service was great -- the staff and our waitress were friendly and took the time to explain everything. The atmosphere was also really cool and a bit different from your typical restaurant. At the very end of the meal, the waitress brought over two glasses of cognac and a flower for the women at the table, along with an explanation behind it (I won't spoil it so you can experience it yourself). It was a unique and memorable touch. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth visiting.

They curated their menu and offered a streamlined and limited selection that made the decision making process easy for guests, and gave me the impression that they prioritized quality over quantity. The stained glass ceiling caught our attention immediately, and based on my elementary SparkNotes-level understanding of Shakespearean literature, I'm assuming it has something to do with the restaurant's namesake. Aside from minor wear and tear on the booth we sat at, everything else appeared well maintained and clean. Our server provided helpful recommendations and feedback when placing our order, and we received warm and friendly service from the staff throughout our stay. The nori milk bread was fluffy and flavorful, and the cocktails well crafted and refreshing. We enjoyed the chilled oysters, although I thought it had a bit of a lingering aftertaste. I've never eaten Swordfish before, and I found the flavor profile and texture interesting especially with the charcoal smokiness, but I personally prefer a richer, melt-in-your mouth quality. On the other hand, I found the Rigatoni Bolognese outstanding, and I devoured that within minutes. The portions for the main courses were on the smaller side, however ordering a dish off each section of the menu helped to create a perfectly balanced meal that didn't have us feeling underfed or overstuffed. Tempest was a refreshing departure from the overcrowded and high energy "touristy" establishments we visited. In comparison, we found the atmosphere far more relaxed, the food just as impressive, and the value better overall. I would add Tempest closer to the top of my "must eat" restaurants on a future trip to Charleston, and I'm curious to see how their menu will evolve over time!

When we first arrived, we were seated outside under the tent area, but it was extremely hot and sunny. My mother-in-law has trouble seeing in bright sunlight, so we asked if there was any way we could move to a shadier spot. Our waiter immediately checked with the hostess and happily moved us without any issue at all, which we really appreciated. He was extremely accommodating the entire meal, answered all of our questions, and kept checking to make sure everything was good. The crab cake was probably the standout item for me -- almost entirely crab with basically no filler or breading and really great flavor. It's not a huge entrée portion by itself, but with appetizers it was definitely filling enough. The shrimp dish was also delicious and full of flavor, and the salmon appetizer was really fresh and very good too. The drinks were good as well. My pineapple daiquiri was MUCH stronger than I expected, but honestly still really good. As a nice Mother's Day touch, they were giving complimentary mimosas to guests walking in and also handing out red roses to all of the moms, which was really thoughtful. It is definitely on the pricier side, but not outrageous for Charleston brunch, especially considering the quality of the food and service. Overall we had a really nice experience and would definitely go back.

I had a barrel aged cocktail, a gin sour, and an espresso martini and their cocktails were fantastic. Well-balanced and silky. Steak tartare is a death row meal for me, and theirs did not disappoint. It's topped with the cutest little thin potato chips and the tartare itself had thinly sliced pickles and whole ground mustard mixed in. With the shaved egg white and diced steak, it was divine-- a little smoky, and full of flavor. I sat at the chefs counter, which was so fun. I loved watching the chefs hard at work, in their flow state, and they were able to banter some with those at the counter. There's an open fire right there, so if you're temperamental to heat/smoke, it's not the best spot for you. I enjoyed it immensely, watching them season and cook my pork chop right in front of me. The pork chop was truly incredible, thick double cut chop, perfect sear with a slightly pink center. Insane. Incredible. The flavors worked well together with a slightly sweet, mildly spicy sauce, bok choy and trumpet mushrooms. My server (I forget his name!) was knowledgeable and so kind. Truly a fantastic experience start to finish and I will be back next time I visit.
