Fantastic spot for authentic Mexican! Took my wife for dinner on a Friday night at one of our go-to places. We were seated right away, and warm chips with house salsa arrived as we sat down. I stuck with my favorite Fajitas Quesadilla Texana, and my wife got her usual Steak Nacho Fajita--both were spot-on, as always. The food here is consistently delicious and served fast. Such a great little Mexican restaurant! The service was great , we got our lunch super fast, I was disappointed they didn't have margaritas but their other locations do I was told . Our waiter brought me out some of his Serrano peppers from his personal stash because I asked for habanero sauce , that kicked my @$$ but in a good way lol . El Patio was recommended by a friend, so my mom and I had to try it on the way home from our shopping trip. The booth we sat in was comfortable, and the service was very efficient. The chips and salsa were amazing. A large portion was provided and the salsa was fresh and not super spicy. I have to say, it was the best salsa I've ever had! For my entree I ordered the beef chimichangas which are covered in queso and served with rice and beans. My mom ordered the chicken chimichangas. My mom ended up finding some bones in hers. Luckily she had cut into it with a fork but it could've been bad if she had just bitten into it. I loved the steak ones and would get them again! read more

Walked in and was greeted immediately by a friendly gentleman. I was seated in a booth. The restaurant is very clean and the booths are very beautiful. I love the rustic charm they have. I ordered the beef chimichanga platter, it was so delicious, it had this very delicate cheese sauce on it, which was the perfect touch for the beef. The beans were cooked perfect and so was the rice. My first visit here will not be my last! Our service was very fast and efficient. The chips and salsa he brought to the table were completely amazing. The chips were still hot and the salsa was so good I had to resist tipping the bowl into my mouth like it was a bowl of soup. We had great service and delicious, authentic food. I skipped the shell on my taco salad ( had to balance my carbs from eating that basket of chips) and it was still delicious! I don't know of a better, more authentic Mexican food restaurant in this zip code or in the couple of zip codes nearest. I'd recommend dessert from the menu. We went there a few days ago for the first time . No liquor . He said he made more money with a quick turnover as opposed to sitting there drinking ? When I mentioned that the chips and tacos shells were stale . He looked perplexed . He offered us more and delivered them next to an empty salsa bowl ? He did had an explanation saying the chips/ taco shells were not stale just undercooked because of Taco Tuesday. They have a high volume and the cook is doing so many that he probably rushed the process. Therefore, don't go to El patio on Wednesdays . You're likely to get undercooked shells / chips ? I am very sad to give this review. We have seen this place so often and others have mentioned how much they enjoy the food. I read the reviews and they seem mostly very positive, so I am sorry to say our experience did not match other's enthusiasm. This is in no way faulting the individuals who work here. They were very nice, hard working, accommodating, and provided a decent restaurant experience. This review score is purely based on the food. We went sat down we were off to a good start. The chips were hot, crispy, and fresh. The salsa was okay and the cheese dip was tasty. So we felt optimistic about what was to come. When I sat down I wanted a margarita, I had looked at the menu online and saw they had them. I was told there was no alcohol. So, okay, perhaps this location did not serve alcohol, that was fair, so when the server came back I decided a non alcohol daiquiri sounded good for me and the kids and it was on the menu with some other virgin specialty drinks. Then I was told they only served pop. Fine, we stuck with water. We ordered a combo plate, the burrito Mexicano, a tamale (which only came in pork), a quesadilla, and a chimichanga. Basically most of the food was inedible. I was very disappointed since had looked forward to finding a new favorite go to restaurant. The quesadilla was burnt and charred. The cheese was thick, which is normally a good thing, but this cheese tasted like gooey white American cheese that coated your entire mouth when you take a bite, but not in a good way. It did not taste like a good queso blanco or fresco that I typically use to make them at home. It would not have made sense to send it back to get remade since we did not want to eat another less burnt version. The burrito Mexicano had chicken, steak, pork, and chorizo that was all too chewy and too bland, so they all tasted like the same meat and were hard to chew, my jaw hurt. The red sauce did not taste like any ranchero sauce I have ever experienced, it was not quite right, and made the dish difficult to eat. There was cheese on the dish, but it was literally stuck to the dish and not on the burrito. The avocado salad was sour and also not overly edible. The three item combo plate was surprisingly small and did not produce a lot of leftovers. The tamale was okay but covered in some sort of chili sauce and the chimi was also covered in the cheese dip, which most places do not smother those items in sauce. I did leave with some leftovers but I really do not want to finish them. This is rare for me. I live for leftovers but this place, nope. Lastly there were a lot of flies flying around buzzing in the food. I can not come back here myself, but the place was relatively busy, so they do seem to have a loyal crowd. I do not fault anyone for having a different palate. Since the service was good, if you enjoy these flavors, then this is the place for you. Just not really for me. read more

Still my favorite local Mexican place - the quality has dipped a little due to the pandemic and the struggles to adapt therein but all things considered, I think they've done an incredible job keeping up. Their consistency in availability has helped a lot with my experience through the last couple years. They're reliable. The chorizo queso is still a big stand out, the salsas are always fresh, and the guac still (unfortunately) disappoints. I've become a big fan of the chimichangas and less so of the enchiladas. My only real critique continues to be that their to-go containers are very, very flimsy - which causes a real issue with how thin the chorizo queso is. This is also problematic in keeping food hot. They are the types of to-go containers that are just aluminum pie plates with a piece of cardstock crimped on top. Be sure to warn your delivery services ahead of time, because it might not be visible in the bag and I've had more than one order end up drenched in dip because of a raucous delivery. (ALSO, to note: I don't say that the queso is 'thin' as a negative, it's a very specific kind of 'thin' - a kind that I think is optimal in a queso dip. Specifically, it is thin enough that you can dip your chip to be coated but thick enough *to actually coat the chip* and it's so flavorful that a little goes a long way with each chip. I actually much prefer it this way because you get the most out of your dip and chips, instead of a thick scoopable (like guac) dip that will leave you scraping the container before half the chips are gone. If you do try to get serious scoopage (beside the delicious and plentiful chorizo bits), be prepared for drips.) Unfortunately, I have also found that 'if it can get soggy, it will come that way' to be very true here. Normally I'd blame delivery time, but I live less than a mile away - the time from pick up to my door is mere minutes - so it's something on the restaurants end. The rice is over swollen, the enchilada tortillas are melted and gloppy, chilaquiles are a solid block - but, I've adapted by ordering other things. And those other things hit it out of the park 4/5 times. The chimichangas are delicious, the chips are crisp and well fried, the specialties (like the steaks and entree dishes) are more-often-than-not fabulous - I'd just keep these things in mind if you're a texture person like me (I have a queasy stomach with overly-soft or soggy foods). In all, they serve Mexican food that -feels- like real Mexican food (or at least first generation Mexican American food) similar to what I've gotten in southern states (I'm from Florida). Unlike the other Mexican restaurant up Highland that serves Tex-Mex (and a bland, sad exuse for Tex-Mex at that) on a good day - despite always having a packed parking lot. El Patio has a long standing customer in me. I recommend them to everyone. read more

I went 45 minutes before close on a Friday night. I thought that the food may not be as good because of that, but I was surprised that it was still hot and fresh. I ordered the Bean & Beef Nachos as well as the San José Special. The server also brought out chips and salsa as I was seated. The chips were hot as if they were just taken out of the oven, and the salsa good because it had chunky pieces. I was not too much of a fan of the Bean & Beef Nachos. All the nachos were topped with included the refried beans, beef, and cheese. I thought it would have more toppings besides that. The beans had no spice flavor to it. Overall, the nachos were greasy. The San José Special was delicious! It is two beef burritos topped with cheese dip, and it also had guacamole salad and sour cream on it. My favorite part was the guacamole salad topped over the burritos. The service was satisfactory. It was quick and I have no complaints here. The speed of service was extremely quick. read more

Having been there multiple times, and gotten sick after eating there a majority of the time, I cannot in good conscience recommend the place. They're doing something wrong in the kitchen, and it comes out by taking you out afterwards. Even so, what I really don't understand is why people find their food to be of any consequence to begin with. This is gringo-fied American Tex-Mex rather than true Mexican food. Now, if that's what you're *looking for*, I wish you luck, but keep in mind that my experience there is based on at least 5 visits, and on at least 3 of those occasions, the food made me sick.
