We had El Palmar cater our rehearsal dinner for 70 people in Solvang. They were incredibly easy to work with and the food was amazing! I coordinated with Clementina over the phone and via email. They were very accommodating of our parties food restrictions and cooked everything on site, they even provided bartending services and soft drinks. The food was delicious, everything from the salsas and guacamoles to the actual tacos themselves. The tortillas were made right before the food was served and were delicious. They also had churros for dessert, which our guests loved. I would highly recommend having El Palmar cater any event in the Solvang area. Great food.... bad service. They take your order and then you are on your own. They don't let you know when your to-go order is ready. You have to keep asking I guess? Horrible. They let me sit for 45 minutes after my order was done and the whole time they told me they only had one cook, so need to be patient. We showed up on Sunday right before closing (they close at 8, not at 9) and they still took our order to-go! The two women working in the front of the house were so nice and chatted with us while we waited for our food, and told us that the chef is always to make sure no one leaves with an empty stomach. The food she made us was GREAT! Surf and turf burrito, chile rellenos, and raw shrimp ceviche *chef's kiss* - she knocked it out of the park. Only note on the food is having less rice in the burrito. Oh, and the habanero hot sauce! You have to try it! Delicious! They even made us fresh chips for our ceviche since the leftovers of the day were all broken little pieces. I normally don't even write reviews, I just had to because I was so displeased with the food for $13. I ordered the taco Tuesday 'special' which consists of two regular sized tacos beans and rice and a drink which I didn't even take. At home I tried the first taco, the meat is dry and overcooked and had a big chunk of fat in it. The beans were soup and rice.. both nearly tasteless. I get to Lompoc once or twice per year, but this is the first time I've been to El Palmar. I came here because they have seafood on the menu and I was not disappointed. The homemade salsa was delicious (two servings!), the guacamole was even better, but the shrimp nachos were a home run! I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Good breakfast burritos but when you call in an order, they do not answer or they place you on hold for 10 minutes just to hang up on you after waiting. They've also told me that breakfast isn't all day which is not true- per the owner. read more

We got the ceviche, shrimp enchiladas, and chile relleno combo plate. everything was delicious and paired with a Negra Modelo, perfection. the seafood was all very fresh, took me back to one of my favorite seaside towns in Mexico. They're Spanish rice is excellent, they're refried beans are truly refried beans and their cocktails, whether it be shrimp, octopus or fish, are outstanding. I highly recommend this place. Tried this place for the first time. We ordered the shrimp caldo (soup) which was great! They bring you all the fixings. Including fresh homemade tortillas that's an extra bonus. And mixed ceviche tostada which is delicious although would be better with a homemade tostada rather than a store bought one. Also ordered the green chicken enchiladas. We were told they were spicy and they really weren't. Came with a side of beans and rice which are really good. The horchata is delicious. El Palmar is a once-a-week takeout destination for us, and elicits a Pavlovian response of watering mouths and a quick setting of the table whenever we hear my wife's car pull into the driveway with the goods . . . My weakness is the carne asada burrito, which comes standard w/ fresh onion, cilantro and rice and beans. The meat is grilled, and has excellent flavor; the onions have just a hint of sweetness . . . I add sour cream and guacamole to mine, and it makes for a superb burrito. The best part? The tortilla. Seriously. I don't know what they do to their tortillas, but they are almost crepe-like in their consistency, with just a hint of flour that clings to your fingertips while you eat. Additionally, I have developed an affinity for their salsa. Well, more like a thick hot sauce than a salsa, but it has excellent flavor and goes great with tortilla chips. My wife discovered El Palmar through her colleagues at work. They have had a number of events catered, and my wife brought it home one night and the family was hooked! Came for the handmade corn tortillas! They did not disappoint. Ordered the chili verde. Meat was a little dry, but sauce tasted great. The beans were bland. Didn't need the iceberg lettuce pieces in between the beans, rice and meat. Chips were cold, but tasted good. Friendly staff. Awful customer service I ordered inside because they were not answering their phones and ordered 2meals and was told to wait 20 minutes I had to come back. I waited 30 as I went to the liquor in the meantime and when I came back they haven't done my order it was just written on the paper. I waited another 15 to 20 minutes went back in and she said they were barely starting my order which I had to go home after an hour and ask for my refund if the food wasn't being made and was told I couldn't get a refund until I pressed the issue and she had to go next-door to the bar to get my money back while the lady cook in the back was just keep on keep on talking in Spanish about that I canceled my order thinking I didn't understand her.They need more organization and employees but at least nice ones! read more

A humble place with a great menu! For those who aren't aware, there are different cuisines in Mexico, depending on where you are. It's not all tacos and burritos. Because the owners are from Nayarit (near Puerto Vallarta), they feature many fish-based dishes. The salsa is spicy and flavorful - if you want it ever spicier, you can ask nicely for some chopped jalpenos. They aim to please, so make sure you tell them if you want it raw or roasted. It's definitely an authentic experience. And it's amusing to hear music from a completely different region while you're sitting there. Everything is made in house and fresh - tortillas, salsa, etc. While I give them high marks, I recognize that they don't have everything I like, so I'm happy to go other places. The man and I seriouslycan't figure out why anyone in this town goes to Taco Hell when you can get real, authentic, fresh mex cuisine at places like this!!! Hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in Lompoc, quite possibly California since I live in Orange County. Their super shrimp quesadillas are one of my favorites. This place makes all the tortillas fresh every morning and you can taste the difference. The burritos are giant and delicious as well. The best thing about el palmar besides the nice owners and staff are the chips and salsa! There is a reason why they won 2nd place in a Santa Barbara country salsa competition.
