True family owned restaurant with walk up counter service. Casual open interior with booths around the perimeter. The lady running the counter is obviously the mother of the house, her mannerisms and demeanor both ones of pride of the restaurant and also the food served. Our food was presented on a cart, buy the chef, who appeared to be the father of the house. Again, great pride in the food and presentation. This is really good food, all the flavors were on point. The chips housemade and the salsa was delicious smoky, full flavored and obviously fresh made. Albondigas was an excellent choice on the cold afternoon of my visit. The soup was filling with nice vegetables and plenty of meatballs. Rich and hearty it really hit the spot with me. Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - wasn't expecting much when we walked in as one of the doors did have a "broken" sign, stating to "please use other door." Ordered the regular burrito of meat, bean, rice, and cheese with tripa in one and cabeza in the other. The burritos were very generous in portion size and has a good ratio of rice, beans, and protein. The cabeza was super tender and the tripa quite clean. Both burritos were flavorful and moist! They also gave us a bag of fresh chips that were crispy Ambience: n/a - ordered food to go. The shop is clean and spacious with tables around the edge of the restaurant and still being mindful of spacing Service: 5/5 - super friendly and took the time to explain the difference in some item for us and did give us a heads up that certain proteins (such as lengua) may cost a bit more. First time in fortuna & stopped at this place while waiting for a prescription refill and was pleasantly surprised!! The food was amazing, the taco tuesdays special was great! Delicious food. Friendly service. We grabbed some take out as we arrived in town. Bean and cheese burrito, carne asada tacos, super Chili Colorado burrito and birra queso tacos. Not sure if the pictures posted on Yelp are older. Seems to me they are. But todays date is 8/8/22 to clarify. We're from out of town, and were headed to a campground to sleep overnight. We came across this location thru google maps and decided to try it out. Was incredibly delicious. Food was aunthetic and served fresh. The restaurant was spot on clean and staff was super friendly. The Birria, the size of the Burritos, the seasoning on the chips - these people really care about their food. Got the Al Pastor and was happy with the amount of flavor. Had to follow it up with a Jarritos. comparable to some places in the Bay Area, arguably better than some too. The gentleman behind the counter was super friendly. Price didnt break my bank either. I also liked how clean the place was even though i didn't eat there. Food was ok if you are starving like I was, not the most flavorful. We had the enchiladas and a burrito. Salsa was way watered down. Cashier appeared to be in a bad mood, made you feel like you just walked in to a strangers house without being invited. Made the whole dining experience very uncomfortable. Was STARVING. Ordered the carnitas taco, Al pastor taco, a chicken enchilada and caramel flan. Friend ordered the chicken molé dinner (they also offer it in a burrito). First off we were the only people in the restaurant at 5:30 on a Thursday. The cashier finally brought chips and "spicy" salsa -- not sure if they were free or if he had compassion for two road weary travelers, but the chips tasted like stale styrofoam and the spicy salsa tasted like Texas Pete. Our meal came. The carnitas taco was the best - meat, onion, cilantro, tomato and lime on a homemade corn tortilla. They tortilla didn't break so I give it a thumbs up. The al pastor meat was small dried chunks with mini pineapple tidbits. It was pretty good, but I was also still in starving-to-death mode. The chicken enchilada was GOOD. Cashier guy brought out some actual spicy sauce. A tomatillo and jalapeno sauce (I think). Good flavor with a tiny kick. Now to the bs part: the chicken molé platter. Sheesh. ONE CHICKEN LEG, refried black beans and rice for $12.95. We were both like wtf this better be amazing. Honestly, it tasted fine ------ and Familiar. I asked who's recipe it was and cashier said his Grandma's (yeah, if your Grandma is Doña Marie) . Finally the flan. Flan should be smooth and silky this was spongy and full of holes. Tasted basically like ... brown sugar. Did this place suck? No, it was "fine". Will I go back? Nahh. But if you are choosing between starving to death and grabbing a bite here then Yes, eat here. *Maybe the burritos are where it's at? This place is an amazing local treat that we have needed. Several quick-bite restaurants have tried their hand at this location. It is a tougher spot for quick food as there is no drive-thru and not a lot of 9-5 foot traffic in the area. However, as a dining location serving families for afternoon and evening meals, this should be a winning addition to this side of town! There are a couple of other sit down locations on this side of town but none with decent Mexican food. I wanted to try several things from the menu before posting a review as I don't feel judging a place on one dish is acceptable or proper. My wife and I have now been here four or five times and made sure to try something different each time. All of it has been wonderful. The tastes are on point; better than other locations I have eaten at. Something I did notice is that the dishes are smaller than most sit down restaurants. This is not a bad thing. Many places offer you large quantities of bland food. I would rather a slightly smaller (~10% less than average) plate that tasted better than just adding to my waistline with bland food. As for which meats I like best here, in order from favorite to least it is, Shrimp, Chicken, Carne Asada & Shredded Beef. I haven't tried the pork or fish yet. I don't normally like corn tortillas but the ones here are perfect. I have had a variety of tacos, quesadillas, burritos, fajitas, and huaraches. It is all great! The decor of the location is the only area I have mixed thoughts on. The seating in here is worlds more comfortable than the previous restaurants that were in the same spot. However, it is already very worn and used looking; perhaps they got a deal somewhere. The big screen TV gives it a more informal feel inside but can be distracting while eating. The large windows have always been a blessing and a curse at this location. Great and inviting views, but the sun can also be in your eyes while trying to eat depending on the time of day. The food here was disappointing particularly the fish tacos with very little fish, zero special sauce, no cabbage, or even any salsa except what I had to go back in and ask for. there are no combo plates as far as I can tell so if you want rice and beans are going to have to pay a substantial side dish rate. The manager / owner interfered with his cashier while we were making our food decision which made our experience really uncomfortable. We ended up eating in a rather unpleasant state and getting out of there as soon as possible. I think two stars is charitable. read more

Great Mexican food! Tried them for the first time yesterday and we were very happy with our meals. The carne asada was great - and super tender. The tacos were served like full size street tacos - just the way I like them. We will definitely be going back. Take out only right now, but there are a couple picnic tables out front. I love this place. It's more of a pickup than dine in, but the restaurant is eclectic in its design and the family that runs it is wonderful. I go here for lunch a lot and LOVE the queso birria tacos. Also have heard from my coworker who frequents this place that the items are delicious. I may get some hate but this to me feels more authentic than any of our Mexican restaurants in Fortuna. Street style tacos and tasty burritos. They even make fresh flan and lemon bars for desserts and the horchata is light and delicious! You guys rock and anyone who hasn't tried them should give them a shot as soon as you can. read more

We ordered three carne asada burritos (no beans or rice in any them, add guacamole inside all of them, and no cheese in two of them). Only one came out correct. The remaining two in error: one with only beef and cheese, the other only had the beef in it and nothing else.
