Extremely Disappointing Experience at El Nopal - Corydon, IN We've been loyal customers of El Nopal for over 25 years, visiting our previous location at least twice a week. The service and food have always been excellent, and any small issue was handled quickly and professionally. Unfortunately, our recent visit to the Corydon location was the complete opposite of what we've come to expect. We were seated quickly, but it took about 10 minutes before anyone came by to greet us or take our drink order. Interestingly, that person wasn't even our server but someone temporarily helping out from another El Nopal location that recently closed due to a fire. After our drinks arrived, we ordered our meals. Then we waited--and waited. Tables around us received their food, finished eating, and were reseated with new customers who also received their food promptly. Meanwhile, we still hadn't been served. Diners nearby even commented that they had waited an hour and a half for their food as well. When our meals finally came, mine arrived first, but my companion's took another 10-15 minutes. To make matters worse, the utensils we were given had visible food particles stuck to them. When I finally located a hostess (since our server was nowhere to be found), she brought us clean utensils--but my companion's were also dirty and had to be replaced again. By the time we finished, we were extremely disappointed. At checkout, I asked to speak with a manager to share our concerns, but the person I spoke to claimed to be the manager and said he couldn't understand my English. After years of being devoted customers, this was a truly disheartening experience. We hope management at this location takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the quality of service and cleanliness so that it matches the high standards we've always known and loved from El Nopal. read more

The food was great every time I eat there and I usually have to take a big portion home with me because it's so much. Service is great. I like to have plenty of TVs so you can keep up with things if you'd like I have no complaints here read more

Went there and ate some chicken tendys, Thought i was going to have a good meal. Everything was going pretty decent. They took a little long too bring us our drinks but them singing happy birthday made up for it, Until i got home throwing up, I went to the hospital and told them where i ate. And they said they had several patients come in saying they had food poisoning from the same location. 1 out of 10 i'm never going back there and i hope no one else does either. read more

Ordered rather quickly. Had to wait 30min to get food. During this wait time I watched tables that arrived well after I did get served. I also tried to get my servers attention to just get the food to go. As soon as the food came out the server showed up. I asked him to give me a to go box. He brought out the smallest one they had. I asked for a larger one. The server and person that brought the food out started laughing as they walked off. They both kept looking back at me as the talked to each other and laughing. They split in different directions and continued looking at me laughing. It was obvious they were making fun of me. The server made no move to get me a larger to go box. This girl is a Mexican loving eater!! I've visited multiple El Nopal restaurants. I ordered my norm the soup. The soup came out looking very different than I've seen it before. It was deconstructed and it looked amazing! Served with tortilla strips, Rice, pico, and fresh sliced avocado. The soup tasted so bad I did all I could to not spit it out. Tasted like sewer water. I left bowl on table And ate rice and pico. Chips and salsa were the norm and service was ok. read more

I came by myself, my service wasn't great. My tacos were good. I got the Al pastor, no pineapple which saddened me. I asked for no cilantro, they brought out tacos with cilantro but quickly switched my plate without much word. Good Mexican food especially if you eat inside. The order ahead to pickup is lacking a little as I've requested soft corn tortillas with the meals after several carry out and a variety of orders still NO soft corn tortillas. This place used to be ok. Food was fair atmosphere good, not anymore. On our last visit there the place was empty at lunch, not a good sign. I ordered the huevos, eggs must have been prepared earlier in the month, hard as a rock, but it matched the rice. No sense going any further. This place has gotten lazy, service, food,everything was way off. The chips and salsa was terrible and they're free. Which now that I think about it I wouldn't eat here again for free. We went to this restaurant because we love Mexican food and thought we should try something different. I ordered the chimichanga and it was packed with so much flavor. It was also topped with some queso cheese and it made for a good well rounded bite. The salsa was also good but the guacamole was nothing special. Oh my. What a disaster. I had to ask to order drinks after having been waiting over 10min. 5 minutes later they show up. I had to ask to order our meal. After another 30 min, there were 3 other families at this time, 3/4 meals showed up. I had to Ask again where my sons pizza was. A frozen pizza took almost an hour to cook!! I did not leave a tip. I explained that I did not leave a tip because the service was terrible. She (our waitress mind you) shrugged her shoulders. No "Im sorry". No poor excuse. Oh and the food was flavorless. We had a group of 10 and were hesitant to come here because of the low yelp reviews but we noticed it had high Google reviews. Everyone had a great experience here. The food was amazing . The portions were great and the service was on point. I would definitely come back here if I was in the area. Our favorite Mexican restaurant around! We actually like them better than their main competitors (residents of Corydon will know what I'm talking about). Quieter, friendlier service, and food is just as good (chips served warmer too). They're a litttle slower but it's only because they don't have a bunch of pre-made food sitting in the back. Subpar food at best. Beans and rice were cold and the order wasn't correct when brought to the table. My husband hit the nail on the head by saying the "only thing missing is a drive-thru." The staff are awfully busy visiting with friends at other tables while customers are sitting with empty drinks and no chips. Kinda sad. There's another Mexican place just down the road. Go there!!! We found this place randomly on a drive across country. Had stopped in Corydon IN for the night and were looking for a decent place to eat. No expectations except that it was Mexican food and reminded us a bit of a place in our hometown from the on-line pictures. End result is that we had a great meal (Choir-Pollo is outstanding); some great Margaritas and very friendly service. I see a lot of disappointed reviews here but our experience was entirely positive. Had leftovers which we ate in the car the next day blazing Westward towards CO. The service was fast and on point. Seated immediately. Received chips and salsa right away. Drink was brought within seconds of ordering. I have waited longer at Taco Bell for an order than it took me to get in and out at El Nopal. Speed isn't the only benefit friendly and the chimichangas were hot and tasty. My wife and I recently had a okay experience at this restaurant. The was fine and the food was in-keeping with other Nopal's. However, diners should be warned that chips-and-salsa and NOT complimentary at this location. My, admittedly sheltered, life did not have me prepared for the $5.50 charge I received for the chips that my wife requested. I must admit that the (good) queso sauce that the server brought with the chips made me a bit suspicious, but I was disappointed that our server didn't warn us that chips are not complementary at this establishment as they are every other Mexican restaurant I've patroned. read more

This is one of my favorites when it comes to Mexican restaurants. My family eats here frequently. Always good service and they don't skimp on bringing chips and salsa. Our favorite dishes are Monica (chicken,rice, cheese) and the Talapia is always good. Huge portions. We always leave with a box. Prices are fair and service and food is good. read more
