We were excited to try a New Mexican restaurant. We tried to go here the night of their soft opening. We had plans later that evening and couldn't wait the 30 min to be seated.
We returned a few day later. Our first visit I would have given it a 3-4 stars. Good salsa, thin crispy chips, decent queso. I ordered the pick two entree (beef and chicken burrito with rice and beans). I didn't care for the sauce. Was hoping for chunks of beef but got seasoned ground beef. Chicken was okay. Sauce tasted like it was from a can/jar and had strange sweet flavor to it. I thought the refried beans tasted a little sweet too. Rice was okay. My hubby had pork chili verde burrito. He said the inside of the burrito was good but didn't care for the green sauce. I tried it and agreed. It was sour tasting IMO. My daughter had birria tacos (came with dipping sauce, rice, beans) which she really liked. I had a taste and agree it was good. Was disappointed they weren't serving alcohol yet. Wanted to try their margaritas but they had just gotten their liquor license and had to wait a few days before they could start serving. Wait staff/service was good.
Went back to give them another try. Oil used to fry the chips was rancid. Horrible tasting/smelling. Salsa good, my daughter and hubby both got the birria tacos. The filling was good but tortillas were fried in the rancid oil. We complained about the oil, but really there wasn't much they could do about it. I knew they wouldn't change it or remake the food. I ordered the beef Colorado entree since I get it frequently at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I'm used to large chunks of beef sautéed in a Colorado sauce. This was very thinly sliced pieces of a tough skirt type steak cooked on a grill and then had sauce added to it right before serving. I didn't care for it at all. Didn't even take my leftovers home. I also ordered a margarita. Wanted a frozen/blended one, but machine wasn't working per waitress. I got one "on the rocks" instead. It was warm. Hardly any ice. Tasted like a mix poured in a glass with a few pieces of ice. Wait staff was adequate but definitely not a good as the first time. Second visit rating, 1 star. Won't be going back. I don't want to eat/pay for food fried in rancid oil. I'll stick to better Mexican restaurants like Mi Mexico Lindo, Los Cabos or Hacienda Real. read more
