I have been going to El Maya for over 20 years.. I remember when my parents first moved to Leesburg and I was the first person to order the Nachos without Nachos and over Rice instead because I don't eat Nachos...The Father who owned the restaurant did not understand my order at the time but I love to see how it is a staple in Albany Now! It is Callee "Adrienne Nicole, no chip Nachos" I am going to take the time and find my first recipe at El Maya and post it. I love that my trend has caught on here.. It was my rendition of a dish loved by many in Tallahasee Florida called "Mexican Chicken" that use to be at a restaurant called La Fiesta! I am so happy my style of chip less Nachos caught on in Albany! read more

I wish I were a professional reviewer to emphasize how amazing El Maya is. Their tacos can compete with top taco shops in south Florida (and I would know because I grew up on tacos there). Their salsa verde alone stands out from the rest and will have you speaking in Spanish antes de acabar los tacos! I'm picky about fruity flavored margaritas, but even that isn't an issue here. I love their strawberry margs and their Texas margs are heavy hitters. The corn tortillas don't get soggy, the salsa for chips is spot on, the meats are perfectly seasoned, and the service has always been fantastic. If you're looking for a quick lunch, the chicken soup comes with a cheese quesadilla and it's all delicious. I will be eating here at least once a week! My usual order is carnitas tacos on corn tortillas, el maya style, and I add shredded Mexican cheese. Get this and you will not regret it! read more

Favorite Mexican spot in Southwest GA. Food comes out quick and is good. Had a group of 6 and food came out in almost 5-7 min. Love that it gives u an option for a full or half order so proportions are good and filling (half order will fill you up btw). Great decor, clean. Love coming here with friends. We totally enjoyed our meal!!! First we enjoyed the chips and salsa. Then my husband had a great burrito that came with a side of a great, white cheese dip. I opted for the 3 enchiladas. I wanted just chicken and with green sauce instead of the red. Brooke was our waitress, exceptional, we judge a waitress by how on top of the water refill they are. This place has been around for a while, but that does not mean it is great. The margarita was pretty good and the food was generally very tasty but this place is pricey! We spent 54 dollars on a child's quesadilla, Texas fajitas, cheese dip, large nacho supreme (and describing them as large is a joke), a margarita and a sweet tea. The nachos were ten bucks alone, which is much more expensive than other places in the area. The fajitas were really good and flavorful. No real complaints here. The cheese dip was pretty standard. The chips were warm and the salsa was decent, but not really great. The nachos were very small-- maybe half the size of other restaurants' nachos. The guacamole was blended to baby food consistency and not that great. Finally, the service was not that great. We waited probably 15-20 minutes for a check and a to go box. This is our second day in a row! Food was fresh and fast! I had the steak tacos with bell pepper, onion and tomato trio! Omg!! The rice and beans were great. The staff is so courteous and accommodating! My daughters had mixed fajita nachos and chicken and cheese quesadilla. They both thought the food was fabulous. Fresh, seasoned well and hot! Whenever we head back to visit Leesburg, El Maya is a priority for us. For whatever reason the food at El Maya tops any Mexican food we can find in South Florida. The service is tremendous (ask for Juan!) and the atmosphere is clean and inviting. I don't think residents of Leesburg know how good they have it here. I used to love eating here with my family. We have eaten here as long as I have been alive. We almost always went here for my grandmothers birthday and it was great. Once I became an adult I obviously wanted to eat here and enjoyed it. I prefer to eat vegetarian most of the time and I order my food how I want it made. They always give me problems with it. Today my server literally got mad because I ordered what I did. A manager brought my food to the table and called my food a "concoction" when he sat it on our table. I literally just ordered fajita nachos, replace the chips with rice and the meat with beans. Like it's Normal food. I order it that way because I want the queso and the grilled vegetables on there. When I order it all separate , they always put my vegetables on there raw and never use as much queso. My husband called and asked if I could get him some to go. So I go up to the counter and ask if I can see a menu to place a to go order. They don't hand me a menu to look at , they say what is it that you're looking for ? And I said uhm I'm not sure yet that's why I asked to look at the menu so that I could read the vegetarian options. Our server then comes to the counter and opens the menu to the vegetarian part and shows it to me. I know where to look on the menu and I'm unsure why I'm being treated strangely. So they ask me what I want to order and start ringing it up... I wasn't even ready to go yet. I had to go back to our table and get my wallet because they were basically forcing me to pay right then. My friend was eating with me and when we ordered we told them we wanted it on separate tickets. When he rung me up he asked if it was all together and I said yes the to go food and my food and my baby's food. So he told me my total and I thought it was a little high but I'm not one to complain so I just paid. I paid part cash and part card. When we got the to go order, the server said have a nice day! And we were like wait she (my friend) hasn't paid yet! And he said "you told him it was all together" . I said no, I didn't. We told you we were separate. I asked for a cash refund on my friends food since I did pay part cash! He told me "why can't I just tell you how much it was and she can pay you back. That'll be less complicated than me having to do a refund" I asked her if she had cash on her in front of the server and she said no. He basically told us we need to figure it out amongst ourselves. He wasn't going to fix it. I will not ever be going back here. I wasn't treated like a life long customer, or even a wanted customer. I work in customer service . If I have to be nice no matter what at work, so should everybody else. These people are rude, judgmental, confused, and just down right disrespectful . Don't eat here. We were out for dinner. I am usually suspect of Mexican restaurants because they are often hit and miss, but I like Mexican food so I take chances. Tonight I took a chance on El Maya and it paid off!! The place was packed and I said that's a good sign. We were met by Juan at the door he took great care of my wife and I getting us seated quickly and making sure we were good with the spot. Our waiter was Zack and he took great care of us. My coke was kept full chip and salsa always resupplied. Speaking of salsa OMG. The red salsa was tremendous but the salsa verde is the best I have ever had! It is incredible. Steak tacos had plenty of onions and cilantro soooo good I promise. Go here to eat Mexican. El Maya is my new go to I will be back soon. read more

Not sure where everyone else here has had Mexican food before, but to call this Mexican food is ridiculous. I would rather eat at Taco Bell, and that is not even real Mexican food! My wife and I joined some friends here as a new place to try. Once you come through the door, it is chaos...there is no hostess, only a sign that says seat yourself. Seating here is like going to an outdoor park. Service is OK once they notice you are there. My wife and I both ordered enchiladas and chili relleno. The enchilada is OK, but the chilli relleno is just plain terrible and NOT reminiscent of what it is actually supposed to be. What we got is ground beef mixed with some sort of cheese and a slice of a chilli of some sort on top. El Maya, please Google chilli relleno to see what it is, if you are unable to make it, then take it off your menu. On another note, our friends got a dinner for two which is what my wife and I should have ordered. Our friends seemed to like it, too bad we will not be coming back.
