Fried ice cream

We're new to the area and we're in search of good quality Mexican food. Yelp lead me to this great place. We've been at least once a week since discovering it. The food is excellent, service is prompt and friendly. The interior is warm with nostalgic Mexican vibes. It's been pretty busy each time we've been, so it's definitely a popular place, which is always a good sign. The enchiladas (shredded beef and chicken-both excellent), chile colorado, chimichangas, fajitas, tostadas, fried ice cream and flan are all excellent. Everything tastes great and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. Thanks Yelpers for sharing this place.

Ambience is fun, didn't know this was a Mexican restaurant, the sign isn't noticeable coming east or west on State St. Service was great, food was hot and delicious. Will definitely come back. The starter salsa was spicy which we like and the bean dip was amazing. I've never had the mushroom garnish before. Got the flautas for the kids, the tortillas are cooked perfectly and it was buttery and delicious. Also the Machaca con huevos was so good and will make great leftovers as I ate too much bean dip as always.

Wow this is a great Mexican restaurant. Very clean and great service. Food fantastic. I had the steak fajitas on sizzling platter with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and great meat. Rice and beans and guacamole. Complimentary beans, chips and salsa. Wife had chile rellano and shredded beef taco. I had a Modelo and wife a classic margarita. I would come back when in the area.

10. Enchilada and Taco Combination

This is our go to Mexican food place hands down. Been many years no issues. Visited March 21 with the family and we all got food poisoning. In fact I got it so bad I was in the ER with colitis from the food poisoning. Such a shame and unfortunately the management needs to promote hand washing of their employees and also not allow them to work if they themselves are ill. I love this restaurant but the level of illness this visit caused is not worth another trip.

Three taco rice and bean dinner

Having dinner with the family and the food came out fast and hot but I was a little bit disappointed with my meal because the tortillas were super greasy and dripping in grease and they were store bought and not home made, the asada meat was seasoned with the same seasoning as my wife's chicken fajitas and it was a little bland. The beans were so mashed up that you could drink them with a straw, the rice was lacking tomatoes, onion & garlic flavor but overall I'll give them a 7 out of 10 for being this far from the border

Great food, excellent and friendly service, reasonable prices, and large portions…read more I had the Carnitas plate. Barely finished my plate (and I'm a big eater). My wife had the 2 Chiles Rellenos combo. She said that her meal was excellent. We're from California and have been lamenting not having a go to spot for Mexican food. Not anymore. We both agreed that we've found a new favorite.

My wife ordered a chile rellano and an enchilda. I ordered camarones diabla, one of my favorite dishes. My wife had a coke and I had water. My wife really enjoyed her food, and there was plenty of it, as she brought some home. In my dish, the shrimp were nice and plump, which was great, and the sauce was flavorful, though not as good as at another place I frequent. There were small pieces of mushroom, but there were also a lot of strips of onion, which I'm not a fan of. Just my personal taste. They charge $3.50 for a soda, and for that price, my wife asked for a refill to go. She thought our server was perhaps a bit displeased that she made this request, but we feel that it is reasonable, given the price tag for soda that comes from a machine. All in all, we enjoyed our experience at La Cabanita, and will return, we happen to be in the area (we live in Star).

A higher star rating from me is warranted, however one of the challenges tied to any food truck is the availabilty of seating, shade, etc. There is one table with chairs available however and in our case today we were taking out regardless. The truck and work areas are clean and the menu is clear and concise (unlike some of the hastily handwritten ones for many food trucks). Although "tacos" provides the initial draw, the menu for Tacos Colima is varied. Other than tacos one can choose from burritos, super burritos, tortas, flautas, quesadillas, sopes, tostadas, and even a Torta Cubana sandwich. Protein options include pork carnitas, chorizo, chicharron (+$3), lengua (+$3), cabeza, shrimp, chicken, asada, pork adovada. We both went with burritos today - a carnitas Super Burrito - slightly larger and includes sour cream, avocado, and cheese - and a regular chorizo burrito - the regular is a simple beans, rice, and meat version. Being a chorizo "aficionado" I was more than pleased with my "plain" burrito. The soft tort was filled with an equal amount of chorizo, beans and rice. I was very happy with my choice. The portion was great for $7. The carnitas Super Burrito ($11) was also great, and large enough to opt for leftovers. My dining partner has also tried the carnitas tacos here which she stated were great. Nothing flashy, just really great, basic eats. Each of our plates also included shredded lettuce, thin sliced radishes, and a lime wedge. The burritos were also foil wrapped and were still nice and hot when we got them home. Such a great place to have close to us in Star. Very reasonably priced, fresh ingredients, and very friendly service. Highly-recommended.

My wife and I stopped in on a Sunday for lunch before heading to church. I would rate them 3.5 stars. One of the problems, and it may be ongoing because my wife experienced it when she came here last, is that the AC does not seem to work well. It is uncomfortably warm, so much so that we opted to sit on the patio, which thankfully had a nice breeze and was in the shade. The service was good enough. I was helped by a young woman that served me well, except she did not seem to hear me well, and I am normally known for a loud voice, though it is very low. She kept missing what I was saying and I ended up feeling like I was practically yelling at her. I told her that my wife wanted a drink but I wanted water, but she charged us for two drinks. I had a Fire Chicken bowl with black beans, rice, cheese, guacamole, and salsa. The chicken was a little chewy but generally flavorful. My wife had the steak taco meal with rice and beans. They don't seem to offer corn tortillas which I would prefer, but her steak was very tender and flavorful. I would probably get that next time. So, all in all I had a good experience, with a small hiccup when ordering, generally good food, but uncomfortable atmosphere due to the AC not working well. I will come here again, though most likely just for takeout.

They forgot one of the burritos ordered and tried to claim it's because they ran out of that specific meat. It was way too slow to run out of anything.
