We came in with a nacho craving and were disappointed, this was our first time coming to Metztli. The nacho plate had an underwhelming amount of chips, and no beans. The carne asada meat looked suspiciously like boiled meat pieces, the meat was all stuck together. The salsa bar lacked flavor. This dish was not put together with pride. Spent $55 on two Fajitas meals with some queso cheese. The portion size was like a child's plate. I've been eating Fajitas for over 50 years and this was the smallest portion size I've ever seen. I could fit all the Fajitas and veggies on one tortillas. We had to cook something else at home to fill us up. Why are the Portions so small? For approximately $20 you get like $4.00 worth of food. Family owned top shelf Mexican food. We have the Birra tacos, a chile rellano, and a shredded beef enchiladas with chips and salsa and two micheledas. Everything was fresh, tasty, and the chips bar is incredible. Highly suggest this place place and if you search on Facebook their name they have a $10 off coupon. read more

Husband & I decided to try out Metztli...small and quaint little place in Meridian. Atmosphere was relaxed. Food was good. I had a chicken chimichanga...chicken had good flavor, the rice & beans a little dry - like it was just sitting under a lamp waiting for a customer to order. My husband had a chicken Metztli burrito. I went in today after all the instagram hype about this place. I walked in and was trying to read the menu with my four year old and the waitstaff was jumping down my throat for me to order before I could even look at the menu. The restaurant had two table occupied. It was 11am and not busy. The service was good, but the cleanliness was pretty poor. There were only two other filled tables when we arrived. But, I felt the floors needs a good mopping. The salsa bar was in need of a refresh, the drink machine had out of order signs, and I went to get something and had to tell her it wasn't working and it was not changed before I left. The bathroom was not the cleaniest. The manager did stop by and ask how our meal was which was a something I really liked. I did find the food really good Mexican! I had the combination tacos w/ beans and rice. They were delicious. I would give this place another try- only thing needs inmprovement is staff/cleaning in dining room. By far worst Mexican food I've had in the treasure valley! We were on our way to go get tacos at Del Taco and decided instead to support this business; big mistake! 1st, they charge 2.99 per taco and all it has is meat, cilantro and diced onion. We ordered a to-go order of 5 shredded chicken tacos. When we got home and opened them, they were grilled chicken and the meat was a weird pink-ish color. It had absolutely no flavor whatsoever and was extremely dry. The place itself was absolutely filthy which I didn't fully notice until after we sat down and waited for our food to be done. There was food all over the floor under every single table and crumbs and napkins left, like they clearly had not made any attempt to clean up all day. Mind you we were the only ones in there and there were four people behind the counter just standing there. They all looked lifeless and like I was bothering them by ordering. Everything about this place was just an absolute nightmare. I would've much rather eaten 1.79 tacos at del taco then ever walk foot in this place ever again! read more

Well I have been wanting to try this place for some time after a Heavy add campaign on social media...finally did. I do t regret it but probably won't be back. I wanted the fish tacos, luckily I sales if they are Baja style, they said no, they were grilled, I pointed out the menu said they were fried...well, menu was wrong. Ok....some prices were missing from the menu, I asked about the question, based on other reviews it was $8, wow, that's a lot for a half cup serving. I ended up ordering the Chilie rellano, it was good, came with rice and beans. I asked for chips, I thought they came with the meal, they did just weren't given to us. Salsa bar was good. My friend ordered the taco salad. It was good but Very dry. If not salsa, needed dressing although it did come with brown guacamole and sour cream. Not the worst experience but not the best. Great little Mexican spot! I like that you can order single tacos or full meals. Got 2 Al pastor and a carnitas taco with the 3 shrimp taco plate. You receive complimentary chips where you can go to their topping bar and grab salsa. Shrimp tacos were delicious with a nice portion of beans and rice. Came here this past week for dinner and was surprised I didn't know about this place and glad we found it...if anyone lives in the Treasure Valley you know we are starving for good Mexican joints and they are far and few between. This restaurant is located in a strip mall and would be easy to miss. Once inside hip vibe with modern accents and decor. It's taqueria style so order at the counter and they bring it to you. For dinner we started with the queso and while very good and a little spicy wasn't the typical queso we are used to. I had the birria queso tacos and the birria ramen. My wife had the arroz con camarones. Now with any Mexican joint you know my first thing is they have to mail the chips and salsa and while or queso came with chips wasn't to sure if we would've gotten chips. They have a salsa bar with lots of options including other condiments to add flavor to your dish. The chips were fresh but the salsa while the flavor was there was way to watered down for my taste. To be honest it was so thin it barely stuck to a chip. Now as far as the food goes the tacos were spot on and my favorite was the ramen. The consume broth was great and the shredded beef inside was also tasty. My wife didn't love her dish but it had great flavors. Plus the portions here are great you definitely feel like you are getting your moneys worth. They do have limited alcohol selection that I believe is mostly beer. Staff while it seemed like they were very new were friendly. The only other thing was while we were there the ice machine was jammed and didn't seem to bother any of the employees about un jamming it to allow customers ice with their beverages. Saw an Instagram video about this place and wanted to give it a try. Have mixed feelings about the experience. There's pros and cons here. Pros: Place is small but clean and modern, decent menu selection, nice salsa and topping bar Cons: Service was just meh, not unfriendly but not helpful either, small seating area is cramped and backs of diners' chairs smash each other, food was just so-so, have had better for less money at local taco trucks. The quesabirria plate wasn't on the menu so I asked the woman taking our order the price and she said she wasn't sure but thought it was around $10-12, so I figured it was worth trying. Turns out it was $15.99. Three of us had lunch for $60 and it was just okay. Worth trying but we likely will not go back. read more

This review is for the NEW Metztli sports bar (taqueria) over off Amity and Eagle by the new Albertsons. This is their first week in this location, so I will try to move this review to the other location once it starts showing up on Yelp. We have been waiting for quite some time for them to finish building this restaurant because we like Mexican food and have been anticipating going here. My Al Pastor taco truck burrito was pretty good in flavor, but it was pretty much ice cold and that was right as it was delivered to my table. Also, they haven't dialed in the Coca-Cola fountain machine yet because the Diet Coke we ordered was horrible. It almost tasted like root beer. Now I might have gone back here again in the future, but here's where the dealbreaker lies: The owner came over to our table while we were eating to ask us what we thought of the food, and I told him that the burrito that I ordered and the street tacos that my wife ordered were good in flavor, but they were delivered cold. I told him we were from Southern California and that we appreciated good Mexican food, but this was lacking a little bit but not bad. You would think that for $3.38 for a small street taco and $15 for the taco truck burrito he might ask if possibly he could get us another one that was hot or even offer to heat this back up in the microwave or even better yet, give us a $10 or $15 gift certificate to use next time but he did none of the above. What the heck is wrong with them doing that? You would think repeat business and word-of-mouth would be worth it, but nope. Keep looking elsewhere, folks. It's so-so. read more

I just visited the newest Mexican place in town. It was really hard to give Metztly an overall rating. If I was to rate the condition of the building, I would give them a -5 on my 1 to 10 scale. Metztly is very small. 7 tables and a small counter with bar seating. Then there is the large LCD menu. By the time I had found what I wanted and was about to look at it more in detail, the menu changed to a different part of the menu, so I had to wait until that part of the menu came back. The menu should be slowed down and/or reconfigured so it can show the entire menu at the same time. Luckily, there was also a paper menu on the wall to the side that we could order from. My wife had to clean off our table, which was filthy. My wife also had to sweep the floor around our table, which was also filthy. We sat at a table by the window. Unfortunately, this was also the location of the 1 and only trash can which was overflowing. The floors were all filthy. It looked like this place is way understaffed. There were some very large commercial quality lights on the ceiling with a large bar they travel on. All this was connected to the mixing board. Then at the end of all this sitting right by our table was a sub-woofer which boomed the entire time we were here. Not sure what this place is doing with this equipment. It looked like the type of lights you would find in a large night club or disco. What it was doing in such a very small place as this I had no idea. If I was to rate the food, I would give them a 6 on my scale. I had to step my rating down 1 based on the Chimi, No chips, and the rest of the meal. I had the Chimi with hamburger meat. The hamburger was not swimming in grease like many other places make it. It was flavorful, but nothing to write home about. The Chimi was not crispy. Overall, the chimi with hamburger meat rated a 4 on my scale. My wife had steak fajitas. My wife can't eat a lot, so she always has leftovers, which is great for me because I get to try whatever she orders. The steak was very good. It had a good smoky flavor that didn't taste like a cigarette, which often happens with smoked meats. The only negative with the steak was there was a good amount of gristle we were not able to eat. They do have a Salsa bar, which was nice, but none of the options are labeled. They also offer flimsy plastic forks, and knives. This gives off the vibe of fast food, but it seems like they are trying to be a restaurant. So they have an identity issue they need to figure out. Overall though this was one of the best steak Fajita dishes I have had since coming to Idaho 20 years ago. I will be back to try this and a few other options here. The refried beans were just ok. The guac and sour cream was just ok. The fried rice was just ok. Some of the people eating here got chips and salsa. We did not, so unfortunately, I can't rate what I did not get. If I was to rate the staff, I would give them a 4. When I came in, there was a Mexican lady standing by a mixing board towards the front. She looked like she worked here even though she did not wear anything to indicate that she did. I watched her the whole time my wife and I ate our dinner. She stood in that same place at the mixing board for 10 to 15 minutes. Finally, she moved to the front behind the counter, but still did nothing. When my wife and I were about to leave, I saw her take an order, so she did work there. This place has good potential, but they have work to do. More staff, a better table layout to accommodate more people, staff to clean up, and some work on their LCD menu would be an excellent start. read more

Just ok. Eagle needs a solid Mexican restaurant badly but unfortunately this is just not it. It'll do in a pinch, but you really need to drive too Boise or Napa to get some of the better Mexican food in the area. It's not hard to make great Mexican food, but they just don't try. By looking at the reviews, the business needs to pay attention to cleanliness and consistency in food. Should have a paper menu if people are complaining about the rotating LCD menu. Our son showed us a social media site of this restaurant and everything looked so appetizing. My husband and I tried today for the first time. I had the carne asada plate, my husband had the carne asada burrito and 2 carnitas tacos. The carne asada was so tender and delicious, and the flour tortillas were home made. My husband said his carnitas tacos were just a little salty. They were under staffed and our drinks were out of Co2, there was no ice for our drinks at first, no silverware, and the tables were not bussed. Reason for 1 less star. I was very surprised by this restaurant. They have incredible authentic food. For the price of each entree, you get a very large portion. The inside was very clean and welcoming. The workers were so friendly and did a good job of providing suggestions from the menu. Everything tasted amazing and had such great flavor! The birria tacos were hard to beat. They do have a self service salsa bar and topping station, which is really nice that you can add as much or as little as you want. The only thing that was a little bit of a bummer was that they didn't have unlimited chips. You get one little basket and then it's $1 a basket after that. Came here at 6pm to have dinner with a few girlfriends. Restaurant wasn't busy at all. Ari took our order. She was super friendly and helpful. Asked more questions making sure we got what we actually wanted. My chimichanga was super yummy. Wish it was a tad crispier. The tacos looked on point. My friend had the juice all on her fingers. Lol. The chicken crema was super yummy also. They have a small salsa bar. Wish the chips were a tad saltier. One huge negative drawback was that the hood vents in the kitchen didn't work well at all. It got so Smokey on there if they had more than meal to cook. Your eyes start to sting and you leave just smelling of everything they have cooked. We share the nachos with asada and the enchiladas rancheros with chicken. The asada and chicken were pretty great. Both tender and seasoned well. Portions were large. Prices were pretty standard. Customer service was fine. There was constant steady business, which I took to be a good sign, including lots of delivery pick ups. My favorite thing about the place was the salsa bar, and my least favorite thing was the containers the food was served in. The portions were so large we had left overs, but there aren't covers for the lack plastic tray the enchiladas came in. The nachos were served in styrofoam container with the lid torn off. I did see an order of queso birilla tacos come out after I had ordered, and think I will try those next. Pretty tasty! read more

Stopped by Metztli for some tacos and wow, they did not disappoint! The flavors were authentic and the atmosphere was just perfect for a casual meal out. This place is a solid three, at most. I really wanted to love it because it's so close to me, but it just fell short. For starters, the food looks better than it tastes. Especially for wagyu Asada. The salsa bar was pretty cool. The tacos come with meat only and you stack them how you want. Cool concept. But.... Service received a 1 star. Not only did the lady have such an attitude taking our order but I'm not sure she even smiled. Rude. If it's good service, I'll come back for that alone no matter how bland the food is. We also tip 25-30% as our norm. Not here. Then we went to find a table and literally all but 1 was dirty. Not wiped off at all. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they just had a rush.
