Average Mexican food in the Treasure Valley is common. Nothing different here. Clean interior and quick service. No complaints here. Teetered between 3 or 4 but the food wasn't anything special. Comp'd chips, salsa, and bean dip. Not bad. Chicken taco comes on a preformed hard shell out of a box. Such an easy thing to elevate a taco and this is boring. Filling was just ok. Service was OK but nothing I ate was very good or authentic tasting like several of the reviews I read. I ordered the combo with Chile Riano, tostada and enchilada. The server asked me what meat I would like for my enchilada and I chose Carnitas. That ended up being a two dollar additional custom surcharge, which was not indicated anywhere. The Chile relleno actually had way too much cheese so the chile pepper was undistinguishable, and I LOVE cheese! The red sauce for enchilada and relleno was incredibly bland and almost tasted like the tomato sauce for SpaghettiOs. The chips were standard but the bean dip and salsa were so watery I could hardly dip them. A spoon would've been more useful. I ended up paying over $20 for one of the most flavorless Mexican meals I've ever had. And it didn't bother me, but for those who care, they do not accept Tap for payment. read more

Pleasant, busy Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu and friendly service. Started off on a sour note as we were thirsty for a cold draft beer, but all they had was bottles. I was hungry for some veggies so opted for the beef fajitas expecting lots of onions and green peppers, but I think there was maybe one slice of green pepper :-( The beef was excellent though, lots of flavor and perfectly grilled. The plate on the left with all the extras was huge, no way I could finish all that! My wife had a seafood dish which was loaded with shrimp and scallops, she really enjoyed it. My wife and I probably get takeout from here once a month at the minimum. Their tortilla soup and street tacos are our favorites. The staff has always been so kind, and the food is always top-notch. Okay, so I'm not normally the 1st to suggest a Mexican restaurant, but I went along with a brunch group as they all gave good reviews. Easily spotted off of Parkcenter with an ample parking lot, it also features some outside seating in the summer, as well. The restaurant is spacious and just the atmosphere you would expect. Staff are all friendly and professional, warm and inviting. Our server was Papa Bear, assisted by Juan Carlos. I always seek fresh in-house brewed iced tea, and they did not disappoint. Served in a large cup with a thick, juicy wedge of lemon. As expected, we were served tortilla chips to begin our experience along with what appeared to be housemade salsa and refried beans as a dip. The menu held no surprises, holding all the usual suspects of a Mexican restaurant. For me, the food was decent, but nothing too exciting. Everything came out exceedingly fast to the point that we all remarked. The food did taste as if it was made in-house, but certainly prepared earlier in the day and then quickly plated for us. I was the only diner to make a slight change in my menu, and thus, mine was last to come out of the kitchen as expected, but not late at all. I ordered the lunch chimichanga which came with tomato broth rice and the same refried beans that were served with the tortilla chips, but this time covered with some melted cheese and accompanied with a side of pico de gallo, lettuce, and generous scoops of sour cream and guacamole. Portion sizes seem perfect as most everyone barely finished their meals. At the end of our meal, dessert was not offered, but perhaps we will indulge on our next visit. If you are seeking a reliable choice that is clean, tasty, and friendly, you can't go wrong with La Tapatia. We had wanted to revisit after not having done so for a few years. It was wholly disappointing. The poor woman who first waited on us spoke so little English she had to find someone who understood what "corn or flour tortillas?" meant. My husband's meal came first and mine was entirely different than my order. We had to wait 10 minutes for us to both have our meals in front of us. The food was uninspired and mediocre. It could have been from a Mexican fast food joint. The service was the greatest disappointment. And the restaurant was only 1/4 full. After serving my husband's meal and the the wrong meal to me, we had to wait for a server for 5 minutes to get more salsa. Five of them were hovered around the cashier screen, and/or chatting with one another. They ignored the rest of the room. One server coughed loudly and hoarsely without covering her mouth. Finally, one noticed our waving and delivered more salsa. But it was a fight to get any attention. Their service was sloppy and disinterested. And now we feel the same way about them: wholly disinterested and insulted to be treated with such lax service. We won't ever go back. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite for lunch. Place was slammed for St. Patrick's Day. Everyone eating meat on a Friday given a pass during lent. I ordered two tacos off the lunch combo menu and hubby picked off same menu the taco and one enchilada. Chips, salsa and beans were delivered as we waited for our food. Their salsa was amazing. Bean dip is something new I haven't quite gotten used to. My mother loved it when I'd visit her and our ranch here. I'm more simple, just salsa. Save the beans for my burrito or plate. Their beans tho are fantastic! The place is cute inside. Not that I really care, as long as it's clean. And clean it was. Service was perfect. I'd go back again and again. Before the pandemic hit the country this mexican restaurant was the best. The service was the awesome but I could never get enough chips and salsa. Thats how good this place was. I went there for the first time since pandemic was over and let me say the service was horrible. The food quality was not the same as the quality has gone down hill. It has just enough heat and spices to tantalize the tongue but not linger to long on the pallet. Another trip through Boise and another trip to this restaurant. This place is outstanding. Every dish I try is great, they just don't miss! Tonight I tried the carne asada platter. The carne asada was perfectly marinated, seasoned, and cooked with grilled onions on top of it. It is served with a little bit of pico de gallo and guacamole and rice and beans and a side of tortillas you can make a little mini tacos out of. Outstanding! I don't even like carne asada much,but I was just curious. I kind of wish they had a bar so as a solo diner I could actually eat in the place once. Tucked away in a small strip shopping center near Barbacoa this small unassuming coastal Mexican restaurant has good food and service. Chips, salsa, and refried bean dip start things off. There is ample menu selection to choose from and I found myself studying to narrow down my choice. There are some Red Snapper dishes with succulent sauces that will please the pallet. The Filetes De Huachinango is excellent in a poblano cream sauce with sauteed vegetables underneath. The interior of the restaurant has been well maintained with newly reupholstered seating, clean, but seems dated. It is a quiet experience where you can enjoy conversation with your companion(s). Patio seating is outside, in the afternoon shade and thankfully dogs are banned. I tried a house marguerita but it was so-so. We tried the sopapillas for dessert, a rare puffed pastry style that is hard to find. We will definitely be coming back here when we are in the area. We eat at this place at least once a month. They are usually packed but still we never have to wait for a table if we come before 6pm. We typically order margaritas first, which they serve in huge glasses, and are delicious. As for the foods, I have never had a bad meal there, everything is consistently good and well prepared. In Boise on an overnight, decided to take a short walk to this restaurant from the hotel with the crew. We all ordered food and one of the flight attendants ordered a burrito with rice inside and smothered. It came out with neither done. Up to this point the service was okay. She sent the food back and said she didn't want it. We thought that was the end of it. When the checks came they handed her the check for the food she didn't even eat and said that it needed to be paid for. We explained it was prepared incorrectly and that she didn't even touch it. No F's we're given. The "manager" which later explained he was the owners son, insisted it still had to be settled. We told him we would pay for ours but not the food that got sent back because it was not prepared correctly. He jumped to threatening to call the cops if it didn't get paid. Then he said he had experience dealing with "you people". We told him to go ahead and call the cops, he picked up his phone and dialed someone in his favorites list then walked into the kitchen out of site. We waited outside for them to come. After 15 min we walked back in and asked where the cops were. He said I don't have control over when they show up and proceeded to ignore us. We talked to one of the waitresses and she said don't you think it would be easier if you just paid for it. Apparently we haven't been the only customers he has done this to. In the end our overnight was short and we were all too tired to deal with it anymore and succumbed to his psychological torture and paid. After 30 minutes no cops still. I don't think he called them. He was just wasting our time. Long story short food was okay, but do not send anything back unless you are willing to pay for it. He actually had the audacity to say that we were being childish. This kid is rude and doesn't appreciate the customer. Only cares about his $17 not about return revenue. Don't go here, you will regret if there is any sort of hiccup in your bill. Aloha read more

I was on my way to another place, passed by and thought Mexican food sounds better than my original thought. I'm glad I stopped and are lunch here. Location: they are located in a strip mall with inside and patio dining. It's a smaller size restaurant, but at the time of going I had open seats available. The bathrooms were very clean and fresh smelling. I hate going to a restaurant and see a dirty bathroom, it makes me wonder how the kitchen is. This was not the case here. Food: There is a lot to choose from, but I chose the daily special - Carnitas burrito with rice and beans. While waiting they gave me a basket of chips, salsa she been dip. Both the salsa and bean dip we delicious. I ate almost the whole basket. When the burrito arrived, it came on a large plate and was a huge amount of food. The rice was cooked perfectly, the beans tasty. The burrito was a little drenched is sauce for my taste, or I didn't realize it came that was. But the ingredients are fresh and the burrito was good. This place is peanut allergy safe. They don't use peanuts. Most other Mexican restaurants use peanut butter to thicken their enchilada sauce, not here, they do the traditional method with flour. Service: I had great service. My water was filled when getting low, they checked on me and we're very accommodating with my allergy. Visited this dump last night with my husband for a second round - first time I ordered from this place was during lockdown so it was takeout. Drove 20 minutes across town to pickup my order, got home and found it was short an entrée. Called and they said "next time they would make it right." I shared my dinner that night and we were both quite sick the next day - and for the following couple of days. I seriously HATE writing bad reviews about places (although it seems like all I seem to be writing these days).. but i refrained at this point. I just chalked it up to a bad day, a bad dish.. it could have been anything that caused it as far as I was concerned. As far as yesterday, upon entering the business and sitting down I ordered a strawberry margarita, my husband got a beer. I noticed my drink didn't have a very strong taste of tequila - I didn't order a virgin.. I assumed maybe whoever made the drink was just being stingy, so I asked if I could get a shot and I would just pour it in. Nope, this business doesn't have a liquor license so they buy the frozen pouches of premixed margaritas that you get in the grocery store! They refused to show me the package but our young greeter confirmed this is what they use and he didn't understand what I was asking about serving house-made margaritas. Gotta say, this was the first sign that we shouldn't have stayed. The chips, salsa, and refried beans hit the table - which I'm always excited to munch on. The beans were cold, the chips were obviously bulk from a bag and the salsa was CLEARLY from a jar with some really thick cut onions added. Its usually obvious when the salsa is homemade and full of fresh flavors. I took two bites and couldn't eat anymore. Long story more boring, we ordered dinner. Suffice it to say the items listed on the menu aren't exactly what you get. The prawns are small prepacked frozen shrimp. The Carne Asada burrito is packed with rice, very little meat and everything on the menu is GOING TO SEND YOU TO THE HOSPITAL OR THE TOILET FOR DAYS!!!! Chips and salsa were on the table quickly. Salsa was good but a little hot for my taste but my wife loved it. I got a beer it was cold. My wife got a house margarita. To say the least it had plenty of tequila in it . The food was good and plentiful. It is the same types of food you get at any of these little strip mall Mexican restaurants. We went out to dinner here spontaneously, as we were in the vicinity, and both my wife and I figured, "Yeah, Mexican food sounds good." We really enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Crab Enchiladas, and my wife ordered a combo dinner with a Chicken Chimichanga and a Chile Relleno. Both dishes were really good, and did not feel overly heavy. One comment from previous reviewers that I would agree with is that the chips were a bit stale. It would have been great to have hot and fresh chips before dinner. On the other hand, the chips weren't bad enough to stop us from wolfing down two baskets worth before dinner! :-) We will definitely come back here if we are in the area again with the desire for Mexican food. Food was terrific. We had 3 meals off the lunch menu and were unable to finish them all. The shrimp, carnitas, and shredded beef fillings were very generous, the refried beans had the perfect amount of spice and cheese, and the chips came with salsa and a warm, lightly spicy bean dip. The draft Pacifico and Negra Modelo beers were a perfect accompaniment to a delicious and filling meal. The server was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely visit again. read more
