My high school classmates wanted to get together for lunch. We are all over the valley so we decided on Chapala. It's close to the freeway and easy to get to. It sounded like a great central spot for all of us. I showed up first. I was greeted by a couple servers. It was rather early still so they got a table for the 6 of us ready. While they were getting the table put togther, I got to enjoy all the colorful fun decor everywhere. Every corner of this joint has something fun to look at! Whoever decorated this place did a great job! Chips, bean dip, salsa and water was dropped off while I was waiting at the table for the others to show up. I got myself a virgin mango margarita to start. I worked on the dips and chips for a bit. Mannnn that bean dip is so good! The salsa was fresh and hot! The chips were the perfect vessel for both dips. I really had to refrain from eating too much of the chips, it was hard. I wanted to save a little room for lunch. After everyone finally showed up, drinks were brought out and some chips and dip was worked on, we finally got some lunch ordered. These folks have such a big menu! It's almost overwhelming how many options they have. I did creep on their menu the night before. I knew I wanted an enchilada. They have so many combo options with an enchilada as an option so I got the shredded beef enchilada and the tamale. I haven't had a tamale before so I thought it was a good day to try one! Can I tell you now fast all of our food came out? And everyone's plates looked fantastic! From the tacos to the chimis, it all looked tasty. Everything was hot! The cheese on my enchilada was nicely melted. The rice and beans looked so good! I knew I ordered the right combo plate. The shredded beef in my enchilada was so tender. The sauce was savory and rich. The rice wa fluffy. The beans were savory and hearty. The tamale was good. It was my first time having it so I didn't know what to quite expect. There was sauce and cheese on it as well. The tamale seemed a little dry but the sauce did help. For my first experience with the tamale, it was good. They give you so much food! I was only able to eat half of my plate. Not mad about having the other half for dinner tonight. I had such a good time here today! Service was great and fast! My mango margarita was legit good! My food was fantastic. And the venue is so bright, colorful and uniquely decorated. I can't believe I have lived in the valley this long and have never been here before. Not super impressed. Chips were meh, beans were ok. Salsa was good. I had huevos rancheros and my husband had Omar's favorite platter. My eggs were good, red sauce was delicious and flavorful. My husband said the pollo carnitas was flavorless, same with the asada. The camerones Al Diablo tasted like it was in bbq sauce. We weren't really fans. The place looks good they have updated there furniture. We waited for a bit after we got sitted and when we order. The server took our order he didn't wrote it down and he left and literally 5 minutes later he came back with our food my plate was so Hot. The beans where delicious. I have to say I was impressed. The outside doesn't look like much but the inside was beautiful. The decor is really pretty and I love that they are playing Spanish music too. This was a decent authentic mexican restaurant. Food was good prices were a little steep but I guess they had to raise their prices to make up for the Covid 19 Shutdowns and limitations. I got the chicken taco salad which was kind of small for 10 bucks. A single tamale was $3.99 in a beer was 5 bucks With the salad there was hardly any lettuce or tomatoes and that's pretty much all it had was lettuce tomatoes and chicken. Pretty plain I also had a beef tamale which was good but it was smothered in so much cheese that it was difficulty to eat because the cheese was so stringy. My waitress was attentive to when I needed a drink or if I needed anything but she just didn't seem very happy. No smile or any indication of being friendly I'd go back next time I'm in the area as I came all the way from New Hampshire on a trip. I'm a pilot and flew into Boise airport from McCall airport. Usually love the food. Ordered for an office birthday party. Each of us ordered what we wanted. I am diabetic and cannot eat rice (turns to complex sugar). I asked that my burrito have NO rice, but keep the refried beans. The burrito filling was 1/2 rice, almost no cheese on top, NO beans. The 'side' was all rice. Others had sides they did not order. I'm not sure why this eatery was overlooked. It was nice and as authentic as one can get in Boise, in my opinion. The ambiance was distinct, the service was excellent, and we were welcomed with refried beans, salsa, and chips, all of which were freshly prepared and delicious. Normally, I find margaritas to be problematic since restaurants go overboard on the sour mix, giving me heartburn and masking the tequila's delicious flavor, but not here! I treated myself with a margarita served in an unusually adorable clay-made glass. It was both tasty and refreshing! Moving on to the main course, I ordered the "Mike's Choice Platter," while my dining companion had the beef fajitas.... WOW! To be honest, the Mike's Choice plate was enormous, and there is no way one person should be able to consume so much food in one sitting, but I am both pleased and ashamed to admit that I did! I couldn't stop myself since everything was so wonderful! I "waddled" back to the car after asking for the check, and we took the left-over Fajitas home. I had the fajitas for breakfast the next day, and let me tell you, if they hadn't been delicious, I wouldn't have included them in the review! Even though it was left over, it was fantastic! Food is always incredible, owners are from where my family came from and is always so true to the flavors I grew up eating. This place is my comfort food and I absolutely love eating here. Delivery is not always amazing, they do mix up orders fairly often and some menu prices/deals do not apply when eating in person or do takeout. read more

As far as the restaurant goes it's clean and well decorated. The 2 employees we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. We did ask for more salsa at one point we never got but we survived that horrible mishap. My burrito was very good pork was so tender, verde sauce was fantastic. The salsa here is really good a bit spicy but I like that. My daughters both ate pretty well so their food must have been good. My drink was not empty until we left. The same people have been working there for quite some time, which says a lot. We have eaten at Chapalas very many times. They are fun and have great food. We decided to get a "to-go" order through DoorDash. DoorDash said they had a 50% off if we picked it up. I called the restaurant but they couldn't do anything about what promotions DoorDash does. We went and paid full price. The food was still good but the chimichanga was no longer crispy fried. It was still good but cold. That's what we have to deal with when picking up. Although the food is still tasty, it seemed as if it might have been pre-cooked ahead of time and reheated. Had dinner there got the combo with enchiladas and chili relleno. Husband had a chicken quesadilla. Service is super fast got our chips and salsa to us as we were just sitting down. Drinks came fast too. The chicken was really tender and moist in the enchiladas but the sauce was really really Bland. In the past when I've had ranchera sauce it's a lot deeper flavor. Plate could do with some garnish something green and maybe some sliced olives? A little on the oily side. Husband really liked his chicken quesadilla, really big. I had the "Colorado" and the shredded beef was in chucks just not all the shredded which kept the flavor inside. The refried beans had a little spice to them and they weren't like in other restaurants I go to. The rice was also spicy but not to spicy. It also wasn't bland. I've been coming here for years because it's near my office. Over the past few months, the food quality has become very inconsistent. You can order the same dish multiple times and some days it will be well-spiced and delicious, while other times it is bland, unseasoned, and flavorless. Today I ordered nachos, which I've eaten here many times, and which is kind of hard to mess up. But my nachos hardly had any cheese on them. There was some burned around the edges of the plate, but hardly any on the chips. And there was only a trace of beans on a few chips. Basically, I paid for a plate of dry corn chips with a small dollop of sour cream and guacamole, instead of the cheesy, beany goodness I'd been dreaming of. I don't know if they were maybe running low on supplies because they were busy due to it being almost Cinco de Mayo, but I'd hope they'd plan for that. Also, my order came out in about 3 minutes. I'm used to how quick they are here but you can make nachos that fast and still manage to get a decent amount of cheese on them, plus beans. read more

Cute little restaurant, nicely decorated, warm welcoming atmosphere. The hosts are friendly and willing to answer any questions with the Menu. The portions are quite large and priced very fairly. Now the drinks were the highlight of the meal, the mango margarita was fantastic and quite large... definitely a good value. Looks like they also have some good drink specials Wednesday evenings. The complementary chips and salsa were very good, salsa was nice and spicy. The main course was the only part of the meal that was not 5 star, knocked one off because the rice was a little undercooked. The shredded beef tamale was soo good and covered in gooey cheese. Was so full didn't get to try the deserts however they looked fantastic.
