I kind of missed the vibe of the old place though. When we arrived they tried to seat us at a little dark table on a back wall in the back. Nope, can't have it. At his suggestion we both ordered one of the Molcajete bowls. It's a lava rock bowls that comes out scorching hot and stays that way. One Molcajete Mexicano which had beef, pork, and shrimp with peppers and onions. The other was the Carne Borracha. It's beef with onions and peppers in a red sauce. They come with corn or flour tortillas. Beans and rice are the sides. We started with the table side guacamole and it was delicious. In a short time the bowls came out. It's quite a presentation. Bubbling and packed with food. Both dishes were excellent. The margaritas were good as well. They make their own juice mixes, all fresh ingredients. None of that bottled stuff. It a great place for a Mexican dinner. I took a star off for the seating issue. Otherwise it a 5 star for us.

So much so, it's time for an updated review. I called ahead but it didn't really matter since seating was swift the night we went. I will say that the biggest downside is the small entry...when people are waiting, they often forget there's other people in the world other than themselves. We were quickly seated and the chips, salsa and bean dip with mushrooms and onions were delivered moments after. The salsa was nice, though needed salt...and the chips were on the older side. Bean dip was warm and tasted great with the mushrooms and onions mixed in. The server was very considerate while my friend and I eyed the large menu discussing all the options our stomachs were interested in. I settled on the burrito de chile verde and my friend had the carne asada taco plate. Food came roughly 15 minutes later, piping hot and with generous portions. I'm well aware this is authentic "Americanized" Mexican food, so I'm reviewing from that perspective. In this context, the food was very well prepared and tasted fresh. The pork in my burrito was tender, heavily sauced and cheesy-melty, wrapped in a fresh tortilla, topped with a lightly flavored chili verde sauce. Beans tasted homemade, though they could use a little more salt or garlic. Rice was a little dry but still edible, especially mixed with the beans, sauce and burrito. Would have loved some more sour cream or guacamole, but overall the meal was very filling and satisfying.
