I moved here from Cali and Cali hands down has the best Mexican food. Moving to Philly I have had a hard time finding a good Place that makes Mexican food. But I finally found it! I love their Alambre and tacos. Seasoning is great. They offer corn tortillas. Flour is disgusting IMO. In addition you can get free margaritas there (Before Covid). Service is fast and friendly. The Reverend Dr. Steak and I took a nice stroll up the "Pike" on a lovely Friday night and ended up at El Limon. The place was hopping, with almost every table filled. A good sign. First thing we noticed: It was warmer inside than outside, which is only a welcome sensation in the winter. Second thing we noticed: Dirty. Seriously, I know you're busy but there was no attempt to sweep the tile floors ever by anyone. Little bits of chips and tomato and lettuce all over. We were seated promptly at a two-top along the 'main drag' passageway for servers to get from one area of the restaurant to the other. Seeing as how it was busy people were passing by us very regularly. Our server came and we ordered two different kinds of burritos. We were offered margueritas and gladly accepted, they were very good. They got empty and we waited for someone to either offer a refill or something else to drink. And waited. And waited. We counted 12 times people passed us by, including 4 times when we attempted to flag, before someone showed up with the drink refill offer. We ordered the chips and salsa. Salsa was lovely, chips were overdone, we thought. Burritos, on the other hand, were excellent and saved the experience. Flavorful. Fresh, tomatillo sauce was perfect. This is the stuff of a good burrito. Service was minimal, even as the place emptied out. I struggled here between 3 and 4 stars. Ultimately, I went with 3 because the only true rockstar element was the burrito. read more

Great selection, great prices, and pretty good Mexican food. It's not quite what you can find in California, but it's close enough. Long long ago there was a time where McThrill saw the potential in opening up an authentic Mexican Restaurant in the Main Line due to severe lack of them that the area has been plagued by for the past several decades. But due to the surge of Chipolte & Tex Mex options, spots like Tired Hands & Rittenhouse Deli catching onto the idea with their taco options, and places like Bestio and El Limon moving in; it stands to reason that he probably should have been much more silent with his idea. But so long as neither of those places matched his idea 100%, and it leads to him oftentimes being flustered by the number of solid taco and burrito options that are around here now; McThrill has learned to get down to its movement and its guacamole filled gusto. And out of all of the options that have emerged, I've been able to dub El Limon the spot that delivers it best! And even though this spot doesn't look like much, it's one that delivers and lives up to the authentic representation that the other El Limon locations live up to. The one true to this spot is that it being built within a spot that used to be a former Subway sandwich shop does significantly hamper its style and atmosphere. But after coming out of living in within South Philly for so many years I've learned that some of the best and most authentic Mexican food can be found within the biggest hole in the walls. And in its own legit way it lives up to that type of reputation. With each of them pricing in at $2.50 a pop; it's near impossible not to go a few selections from their stacked taco menu that's loaded with chorizo, al pastor, carnitas, veggie, and other options and add on a plate of chips w/ guacamole for good measure. But its pretty easy to find yourself craving fajitas, tostadas, enchiladas, huge burritos, and other options. But whatever you do you should try to save room for some dessert since they also make an incredible flan and tres leches cake. read more

I came to El Limon on a recently warm Saturday night. We were definitely craving Mexican and I had heard great things about this place. When we arrived, we had a little bit of a wait which was fine. Then some confusion happened and we were skipped over while waiting. A party, the same size as us that came in after us was given a table first. I really did not appreciate that. When we said something we were given attitude which made me hesitant about the service we would receive after that. It just left me feeling weird and unwelcome. Ordering was a breeze and the food was delicious. I ordered three veggie tacos with corn tortillas. I added some of the green sauce that was on the table. Even though the food was great, I still feel like the waitress was avoiding our table - maybe I'm just paranoid. From my experience I probably won't be back to this location but I did like the food so maybe other locations have better service. read more

Great spot for a quick, tasty and well-priced meal! Every time I have driven past this new spot, I notice the cheesy sign but I also see it filled with happy-looking diners, so my sister and I decided to try it out. We wanted a snack between lunch and dinner, so we each ordered one taco - for just $2.50! The steak in my taco was chewier than I would have liked, but the toppings and salsas brought a nice overall taste. The service was fast and friendly. Can't wait to return for a full lunch or dinner. Forget about nearby Chipotle - El Limon will convince you that you deserve better Mexican food. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Mexican food. I love the spice and, you know, who doesn't love tacos - but the Mexican food I've had hasn't blown me away either, as everything tends to taste the same and I can't tell you the difference between an enchilada or a burrito. I know, I'm a terrible person and I should feel bad about myself, but the day may be coming that I love Mexican as much as everyone else after trying El Limon. It's certainly not gourmet, but with the fresh delicious flavors and the super reasonable prices, it succeeds at satisfying your Mexican cravings. My girlfriend and I ordered the Tinga Burrito ($8.95), the Chicken Enchilada ($7.95), and the Chips, Salsa And Guacamole ($5.00). Oh it was all so good, especially the Burrito, which was absolutely massive, and delicious with fresh tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and juicy tinga. The enchiladas were solid as well, and a shout-out is needed for the sides of creamy smooth refried beans and perfectly cooked spiced rice. If you're with two or more people, definitely get the chips, which comes with four dipping sauces. I really adored El Limon, and I plan on coming back here many more times. Ordered 2 tacos (asada/steak) and they were truly the worst. Something about the beef had a weird taste, ordered one chicken taco, also not good. All would of been fine if I could of just returned it and get something else, I was asking for too much.... literally. Waitress said, you order it, you pay. I explained that I was not happy with the meal and just wanted to exchange for something I like, would be gladly pay the difference. It was no use. Np was no, and that was the end of the story. I payed my bill and walked to Chipotle. Literally, and I really and hoping it was me and my bad taste buds, because this place was packed! Check out this good sit-down, casual Mexican restaurant. I came here on a Saturday night. The parking lot was packed, but there we're still a few tables available inside. After being seated, a waitress quickly took our order. We then had just a few minute wait until our order of chips, salsa and guacamole arrived. Both the salsa and guac where good. Also, I can't say for sure, but I think the guac may be yogurt-based. It reminded me of Trader Joe's Greek yogurt guacamole if you've ever had that. For my main dish, I ordered the chorizo burrito with verde sauce on the side. If you like extra sauce, I'd suggest ordering it that way because they give you a huge side. The burrito was giant and contained beans, rice, some veggies and lots of chorizo. On top, the burrito had lettuce, tomato and sour cream. I added some of the restaurant hot sauce to my burrito. There are two options - red and a dark green. I preferred the red because it was very spicy. Overall, above average Mexican restaurant. Give it a try if you're in the area! read more

I really enjoyed their tostadas and the doradas. I was told this location is apart of a chain of other taco shops. They are pretty good. Great starts for authentic like Mexican food. The sopes are also favorites of the people, it's soft homemade tortilla with whatever protein you choose. I usually go for the steak or the el pastor. The chicken is pretty good too. Definitely use some chili sauce, gives it a nice kick! The 3 leches cake is good so is the flan. Don't ask for the free margarita, super water down and barely alcohol. I discovered this gem while working in the Ardmore shopping center. They have great burritos and chicken quesadillas! They also service free house margaritas on Mondays, I believe ( double check that). Chips and salsa are great as well. I plan on ordering the tinga enchiladas & tres leches today & give that I try. First time ordering here and the food was worth it all!! I am so so much in LOVE with this place. I ordered the Loaded Nachos with Al Pastor and I do not have one complaint. My co-worker ordered the Al Pastor Enchiladas with Mole sauce and she loved it. The Guacamole was GREAT and the portion was huge for $9.45! I however did not go into the restaurant. I ordered online and the food got here quicker than expected and the delivery guy was pleasant. I will be venturing out next time and will update on the actual in restaurant experience. I didn't really expect such great Mexican food in the middle of the main line suburbs but they did a fine job of making the food tastes like what I might get in Mexico City or other regions of the country. I think it's pretty cool that they have brought a little slice of Mexico to the main line and while it's not going to be a staple of the restaurants I visit, I'll never say no if somebody invites me for some Mexican in the main line ;) read more

We have been to three different locations. The food has been consistently wonderful. Loaded nachos are great, very fresh and flavorful. Burritos are huge and delicious. The mole sauce is to die for. The service is as bad as the food is good. Last time I visited the Ardmore location, I ordered ahead online and arrived at the time directed. Unfortunately, I then had to wait 20-25 minutes while 3 bored waitresses stared at me in my face and did nothing to help. Today, I again arrived on time only to find they had given my order to someone else with the same first name. I'm from Texas so I wasn't expecting such great Mexican food in PA, but this place is awesome! It seems to always be crowded. I came here twice for the tacos only - because tacos are life. I ordered my staples: al pastor and carne asada, not supreme (with sour cream lettuce and tomatoes, instead just onions and cilantro), on corn, with a side of limes. So good!! Both meats were super flavorful and the onions and cilantro and lime really elevated everything. No salsa or other condiments needed for me. I've also tried the chorizo and chicken tinga. Also good but I'm a sucker for al pastor. The flan is also delicious - it has a cheesecake texture and is just yummy. Margaritas are free but taste like sweet lemonade. Parking can get kinda tough since they just have a small lot in the back. read more

Same as the other locations in Conshohocken, Bryn Mawr etc this is a solid casual Mexican at a good price. Complimentary margaritas too which is a plus. I personally prefer all of their tacos and salads and quesadillas. For dessert either the flan or dulce the Leiche cake. Very child friendly too. read more
