I come here quite often with my husband & we always feel welcome. The service is always fast and the food is always fresh & delicious!

Express Ground Beef Indio Burrito, love the friendly service, the chips & salsa are always my favorite!

Food is always amazing! Service is so wonderful. Love the open atmosphere.. chips And salsa are always refilled quickly. They also make a really good Shirley Temple with extra cherries. Been coming here for years now , one of my favorite restaurants.

There was a bug on our table and it ruined our appetite, literally couldn't eat. Who knows where else there can be bugs....the food was okay I wouldn't go back

Parking is limited and I passed the building trying to find it. It's a pretty big restaurant, bigger than it looks on the outside. We were seated right away and they brought out complementary chips and salsa. The chips and salsa are made in house. The salsa had a bit of a kick but it wasn't too bad. We ordered chicken and steak fajitas and the enchilada and carne asade taco combo. Both came with beans and rice. The carne asada tacos were so good, they had a smokey bbq flavor and even though they looked dry they were not. The chicken enchilada was probably the best enchilada I've ever had. Nothing was too spicy and the portions were big. The only thing I didn't like was that I asked for a side of sour cream and it was $3. Otherwise, I've got a new favorite Mexican food spot

This place used to be an icon. I started going here about 30 years ago, and it was my favorite Mexican restaurant in Portland. I have not been here in at least 5 years, but I was in town, and a friend wanted Mexican, so I took her here. I should have known when I walked in and the place was practically empty- and there weren't hardly any natives there, I should have known there was a problem. (The best test for me of a good ethnic restaurant is when their own people are there eating the food. ) So the chips and salsa were not bad, but that was it. Everything else was flavorless. The meat wasn't seasoned well, the beans & sauce were bland, the rice needed salt, the pico de gallo was simply chopped onions & tomatoes, there wasn't any cilantro or lime juice mixed in, it was horrible. I talked to the manager, who stated that the food was the same as it has always been. I asked him how long he'd been working there, and he said 1.5 years! Poor thing, he obviously doesn't know how iconic & delicious this place USED to be. Unfortunately, we didn't eat the food (but had to pay for it anyways - even though we left it on the table). We left hungry & had to go eat elsewhere. It was a sad day.

The food and service are great! We have gotten the food to go a few times. They have done a great job packaging the food even give you box tray to carry the food. The portion is good.

First time in probably over 10 years that I've been back at this restaurant. It's my sister-in-law's favorite place but she moved outta state years ago. The workers were so friendly and welcoming, very attentive. Our waiter constantly checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was good, large portions and very tasty. And the drinks were also refreshing and delicious. We sat in the bar for a friend's birthday and at the end of the dinner; the staff brought out a hat for him to wear and they all sang to him and gave him a complimentary birthday shot. Very fun night and good vibes. Will definitely be back sooner than later!

As always, the food was solid. I had steak and shrimp fajitas. The marinade used was delicious. Rice, beans and tortillas all fine. My friend had a crab and chicken burrito I believe, which also was quite good. El Indio's menu is great. So many creative choices. I only complaint this time was the atmosphere. The main dining room could use a real make over. We sat by the window and in the sill were two slugs visiting...inside. I must admit, this was somewhat disturbing and grossed me out a bit. Time to upgrade the dining area and seal up any holes to the outside.

Extra side of yummy and creamy black bean frijoles with sour cream, butter, tortillas. Instead of desert, the Mezcal, chile and lime was refreshing. I was excited to go here as I had been meaning to visit for at least 6 months. I wasn't disappointed. This taqueria is the real deal, and very authentic. I also appreciate it's LGBTQ owned, and like to be inclusive in how I spend money. The tacos are amazing I had two there, and took two home. They were all delicious and not one disappointed. Their taco menu is very extensive, and it's nice that they have a lot of vegetarian options as well. One of my favorites was the one with mole ,and poblanos, also the chicken one, also the carnitas. Flavors so rich and satisfying. The staff is very friendly, and helpful. Extremely quick service which I love. Even though I only speak a little bit of Spanish. I tried, and they were very welcoming. They are fluent in Spanish. I knew it was an authentic taqueria when I heard a native spanish speaker speak Spanish at the counter. I don't want to leave out their drinks as they have quite a selection both alcoholic, and non alcoholic. I tried the horchata, which was amazing. I have been craving Pozole for a long time, and they had it as a special chicken with green sauce, and pork and a red sauce. Both simply amazing and a great deal. This restaurant is very reasonable, and you get quite a lot for the money. Last but not least I can't forget the ambiance which felt very authentic, and reminded me of being in a Taqueria in Mexico or Southern California. the place is decorated very thoughtful with a lot of candles, and many shrines. They also have a love of Mariah Carey and saw many photos of here in the restaurant. They have both outdoor seating and indoor seating. A lot of plants outside which all seem very happy and well cared for. I love this place, and will be going back for sure. The place is very casual which I appreciate. I have had some meals at the bar where the bartenders were genuinely engaged knowledgeable and happy to walk you through their agave list which only enhances the whole experience. I will be honest and say that the service can sometimes lean into the typical Portland vibe of aloof and uninterested but there have also been moments especially at the bar where the staff really shines and makes you feel welcome and taken care of. Even with that quirk the overall experience is fantastic and it does nothing to take away from how much I enjoy eating here.
