This is a Mexican restaurant that if my father were still alive I would be proud to take him to. The portions are generous, the beers even more so, and they actually have food other than the generic tacos (mind you, I ordered those out of a craving), but I was pleasantly surprised that they had menudo on their menu. The staff, too, is actually Mexican. I had a very nice conversation with the waitress about our roots and all. Anyway, let's talk food and drinks here. We began with drinks, all of us choosing beer and/or margaritas. Let me tell you that if you get beer on draft like I did that the glass is huge. ¡Están sí son chelas! Translation: These yes are beers! Drinks aside, they bring you complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa actually has a nice flavor, maybe even a hint of a kick to it. Despite this, we started with chips and guacamole and what a hearty portion. Guacamole was fresh and filling. For our main dishes, a cheese enchilada was had, as well as carne asada. The last two of us (including myself in this boat given prior comment) ordered tacos. Carne asada tacos specifically. Everything was legitimately delish. Very happy we wound up at El Huichol, which I later learned is an indigenous group of people from Mexico. Honestly never would have stumbled across this place if it wasn't for the fact that the buffalo DMV had been moved here and Google was incorrect, not to mention the driving evaluator told me they have some amazing margaritas - and they weren't wrong! Along with having one of their slushy machine margaritas while waiting for my son to take his driving test, I had their chips and salsa and was able to sample their spicy and their avocado Verde salsa - both were amazing! After my son passed his driver's test we celebrated with more chips + salsa and a chicken and asada taco each. The waitress (who lived in Apple Valley and we chatted about being from Rosemount) told me they made their corn tortillas in house, and they were definitely the best I've ever tried: soft like a flower tortilla but still the rich flavor of corn. I'm not a cilantro fan but it was just perfectly diced and their red onions on top along with the salsa verde were absolutely heavenly. The food was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. The guacamole was particularly impressive, and I love a crunchy, thin chip to go with it. I ordered the steak fajitas, which arrived sizzling hot and generously portioned--enough to feed two, with leftovers to take home. The steak was tender, and the rice was delightful as well. I'll definitely be returning for more. The restaurant has a classic ambiance, and everything was very clean. The service was friendly too. Went here for cinco de mayo and to watch my father-in-law do some live music. My husband and friend both got the chicken quesadillas that they said were delicious. I ordered the quesabirria which I have never had before. It was fun to see some more unique authentic options than what is usually at a typical Mexican restaurant in America. The quesabirria was good but could've had more flavor. It came with two different types of hot cause/salsa but if you don't like spicy it was a little bit bland. My husband loves to try different food. El Huichol is in the same building as our current favorite restaurant. He ordered whatever looked interesting to him. This place is so good, I've had it 4 times now and ordered the same thing every time. I have gotten the Keto- bowl with chicken it's made with cauliflower rice. Have tried the drinks - they are ok. Kind of overly sweet. the Queso is not the style we like, so we skip it. Last few times we have been in, the food hasn't been quite as good, but remains our only pick in Buffalo to eat, other than fast food. read more

The atmosphere was bright and nice and clean. However the sign on the door said no public restroom. I should have turned around then. My brother and I waited 40 minutes for our food. They were not busy at all. Then our food was not very hot. The wait staff was pleasant, and kindly refilled our salsa and chips, they we both good. The food tasted fine, but the portions were small. My first time here and I wasn't disappointed. The food was good and the service was fast. Our whole party enjoyed their meals and everyone agreed that the salsa was the best. The one thing that surprised me was the emptiness of the place. There were only a few tables being used during a supper rush on a Saturday at 5pm. El Huichol has the BEST service we have had at a restaurant in a long time! So quick, super friendly, and attentive. The space has been a lot of different restaurants over the years but this one tops the list. The food is not only delicious, but actually surprisingly authentic. Everything is made with love and it shows. We had the carne asada fries (which are huge!) and the tri color enchiladas. The portions were very generous, and after all those chips and salsa we definitely had leftovers to take home. Their cocktails are great- highly recommend the piña colada! So many good things to say about this new spot in Buffalo. Their food is absolutely delicious. Coming from a Mexican girl who misses her moms cooking ... the menudo and the fresh homemade tortillas can make a girl cry lol. I had the honor of being the first person to order a pina colada (so now I have bragging rights) and was totally not expecting the toasted coconut, cherry, and whipped cream. They definitely know how to present their food! The carne asada fries are a MUST if you're going to get an appetizer. I ordered it for my meal during my last stop and it is definitely filling! The service is also amazing. I had the same young guy as our server during all our visits, and he is so kind and helpful. For now it sounds like they only have indoor seating which is totally fine because their decor is really cool and fits with the Mexican restaurant vibe, but I am really looking forward to when they open their outdoor seating!
