We made a point to visit El Huequito after seeing it highlighted on Somebody Feed Phil as the original spot credited with bringing Al Pastor tacos to Mexico. With that kind of history (and hype), we were really excited to try it.
We ordered the Pastor Especial tacos, Consommé Especial, queso fundido, guacamole with chips, a side of grilled onions, and flan for dessert. While everything was perfectly fine, it just didn't quite live up to expectations--especially compared to other taquerías we tried during our stay in Mexico City, many of which were more memorable.
That said, the Pastor Especial was generously loaded with meat--almost unusually so--and came with extra tortillas, which allowed us to make multiple tacos. The salsa bar was also a standout: flavorful, well-balanced, and probably our favorite part of the meal.
Overall, nothing was bad, but nothing really wowed us either. Given its legendary status, we expected more. If you're a taco history buff, it may still be worth a visit--but if you're purely chasing the best al pastor in CDMX, there are stronger contenders out there. read more
