Enjoyed the last drive through meal I got here, so brought a friend here for lunch. Woman at front counter obviously did not want to be there today. Barely looked up, barely took order. Not even attempting to be civil. Ordered rolled taco combo, and lime Jarrritos soda which turned out to be the best part of my meal. Rolled tacos were not so good. Dry stringy meat and rather greasy shell. Beans and rice mediocre at best. On the plate were precut radishes which were starting to turn brown. Did not enjoy this meal! Can not recommend. They were not busy at lunchtime and I see why. read more

We tried this place for taco Tuesday recently and I loved it. I will definitely need to add this restaurant to my taco night rotation. I got a few different taco meat varieties which included steak, pork, and shredded meats. All of them were awesome. I highly recommend trying this place! read more

I have tried a few places with menudo and it's good but, this place has the BEST menudo I've had in my life. It reminds me of my grandmas menudo. It's so flavorful and the carne has sooooo much flavor and it's cooked to perfection. It's not rubbery or chewy, it's prefect in every way. I had never been to the restaurant in person but I had finally went a couple weeks ago and the people who run the restaurant are so kind. It makes sense as to why their food is so damn good. The ladies there you can tell KNOW HOW TO COOK AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!! I won't be eating menudo from anywhere else in AZ as much as I will from this place. read more

Been going here for years and have always considered it a 5-star eat, as my first review from years ago indicated. But the last time was a miss on my campechana. Instead of the large high quality hunks of fresh chewy but tender octopus and the tender fresh shrimp cooked to perfection that I have gotten here for the past 15 years, my campechana was made from inferior seafood mix like that I've seen precooked and on sale at Food City. I hope it was just some kitchen emergency and not their new way of making campechana. This meal only deserved one star, but since I've had 97/100 5-star meals at El Grullo's, they get 4 stars from me today. read more

I ordered three small tacos, tripa, asada and al pastor and albondiga soup. It's hard to find a place that does albondigas soup correctly and not all restaurants offer it on their menu. I did a delivery order and was surprised that it came with a lot of the sides that usually come with it that restaurants don't bother to add. Sides like chopped Cilantro and onion, pickled Jalapenos and carrots, sliced Radish and quartered lemon. And it even comes with a couple corn tortillas and Mexican rice. I was glad to not have paid extra for the rice as it already comes with the soup. The soup itself was pretty good. The broth was flavorful and the albondigas were good size. Feeling under the weather, this soup really hits the spot. For the price it's really filling. The tacos were good too. I got the small tacos and they were filled with meat. Although some of the meat tasted a little dry, adding salsa, and lemon to it masks the dryness. But it overall was good. read more

Best Arizona burritos and Machaca in Arizona and prolly the world. Love this place. Especially when they make the Az burritos with crispy potatoes and all their goodness. Always great, just sometimes even better. They cook how I would when I can't. Also the tortillas they use keep me tummy happy. A lot of places use some crap tortillas and I fight digestion all day. Trying new places along main street and decided to try this spot. I like to compare similar items so I tried the carne asada burrito (classic). The meat and tortillas were fresh and delicious. The meat was well seasoned, as was the rice, beans and salsa. I'm looking forward to trying the different menu items from here. Here's the deal. I'm a white boy originally from Chicago. I've lived in the East Valley 15 years. I grew up in a neighborhood that was predominantly Mexican. I've had good Mexican food in Chicago. In Mesa & Tempe, not so much. Filiberto's is nasty. Los Favoritos is so so. Tacos Chiwas is overrated imo. I finally asked a co-worker who is Mexican where he liked to eat that was a little more authentic. He recommended El Grullo. I tried a bunch of tacos on a Tuesday last summer and they were pretty good. This past weekend I got a chorizo, egg & bean breakfast burrito and it was really good. My wife had a steak and egg burrito and said hers was really good too. My only complaint was that we were the 5th car in the drive-thru and waited at least 40 minutes for our food! This was on a Sunday morning around 8:30am and it was packed. I didn't mind since I was able to have a nice conversation with my lovely wife. I just wasn't expecting such a long wait. It's in an older part of Mesa and some of the folks who live in the fancier neighborhoods might not be comfortable around there. Otherwise, I would go so far as to say this place is a hidden gem. read more

This is how you operate a restaurant. Always a good time with El Grullo! I first came for the Quesabirrias, then stayed for the Menudo! Always flavorful! I don't know what they do to their bread (which can be requested with the Menudo), but I feel as though I need 40 loaves of it. The only pain point I have, (which is of no fault to El Grullo in particular) is that they are rather "far" from me, and UberEats and Grubhub hike up the prices so insanely that I can no longer justify ordering from El Grullo using those meal delivery services. When I'm on that side of town, I'll be sure to pick up my favorites however. read more

Excellent place for a breakfast burrito in Mesa. I visited on a Sunday morning, and it was fairly busy, even though the street was under light rail construction and it wasn't easy to access. Many Hispanic families were eating in the restaurant as I walked in. There were quite a few orders of menudo going out as I waited for my order. I knew right then that I found a good place for Mexican food. The bacon burrito was large and filling, with a soft tortilla and tasty ingredients. I enjoyed a Mexican Coke and a soft and hot churro with my burrito, which were delicious additions. I will definitely be back! read more

Took 20 minutes in the drive thru to get 3 rolled tacos. The menu board is too small to see, so I'm not even sure they are on the menu. I asked for shredded beef, but the meat inside did not look or taste like beef. Pretty much a disaster. Only two bites was eaten and rest was tossed into the Mesa streets. read more

Ordered through door dash and I was very happy with the over all price and quality of food! I got sopes and chicken mole which are some of my favorite meals that aren't typically found at Mexican restaurant. The mole came with corn tortillas which you have the option of picking flour or corn I just didn't pick. The mole tasted authentic and like the stuff I make at home! Rice and beans were decent I did order late so I think I got the end of the night left over kinda stuff but still delicious! The sope was mouth watering and delicious! Also pleased with the tacos we decided to get to try: trip, cabeza, lengua, and al pastor. All delicious except they were all in one foil so it was hard to tell a few of them apart but they were flavorful and delicious! Definitely going to be a new #1 spot for me read more

I ordered a menudo and a horchata yesterday thru uber eats. The packaging was well secured. The Horchata was a extra large which I didnt expect. I expected a medium one for $4ish dollars. Very happy because It was delicious The menudo was very tasty and still hot. They did not skim on the menudo. It came with toasted buttery bread and a generous amount of the cilantro, white onions, oregano, lemons and limes. The dry red chilies added a good flavor. Very happy about selecting this restaurant. We were in Mesa at the Mesa Performing Arts center and decided we deserved a nice breakfast burrito. We decided to be adventurous and set down the street and found El Grullo Restaurant. When we parked, the lot was busy which is always a great sign. We entered and walked toward the counter and noticed there was a great deal of choices. Which is also a good thing. We decided to order two egg, potato, and cheese breakfast burritos. There was a bar set up for salsa and other fixings. Everything looked fresh and delicious. Now, if you read my other posts, you will know that I am an avid breakfast burrito eater. That being said, our burritos were delicious. They were hot and the tortilla was amazing. They are large too. I cut mine in half and shared with my daughter. She thought it was good too and she's a picky eater. Hands down, this place was fantastic. I am glad that we ventured in. read more
