We pre-ordered Christmas tamales from El Fenix because we have been customers for over 20 years.. When we picked up our tamales they were tightly encased in a heavy plastic shoud like wrap which caused the tamales to become very mushy, oily and limp. We only were able to eat half of our order. This will be our last Christmas tamales from El Fenix. Mexican food should be freshly made, not prepackaged, frozen and reheated. read more

Me and my family absolutely love El Fenix. They have the best Mexican food in the entire world. I love everything about this restaurant. There Queso and Salsa is amazing. I am reviewing this on behalf of my fiancé. He LOVES this restaurant. We go every Sunday for lunch. For years he and his daughters have gone here and now that I am in the picture, I get to go too. Grew up with this place. Moved away for 10 years but now I'm back and El Fenix is still how I remember it. Is it the best ever? Probably top 5. With the other 4 not even in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Typical low-quality tex-mex cuisine. The salsa is almost like watered down ketchup, the chips are nasty, the refried beans would be better if they were Rosarita canned, and the food wouldn't be worth it if it was free. Maybe the drinks are really good because other than that I cannot account for why people would go here. Do yourself a favor and avoid it at all costs. We decided to come to El Fenix to avoid the hustle and bustle of Chuys and On the Border nearby. I was pleasantly surprised by both the service and the food at this El Fenix. We have had a few different entrees and they are good solid tex-mex dishes. The service has been great too. On one trip, one of our parties entrees was a bit late coming out. My husband had been craving El Fenix this week so we went to this location which is closest to our home. We normally eat at the Dallas locations. The restaurant had maybe four tables with customers. The hostess asked us if we wanted to sit in bar area. She murmured, " It's warm in here. " Warm was an understatement. Obviously the air wasn't working in the bar. We said, "Why would you seat us in here with no air conditioning?" She didn't reply. Then she sat us at the booth closest to kitchen and back entrance to bar. Gee that was much better! We moved to a different table after she walked away. Our waiter made up "specials" on the fly that reflected the current menu price even though he claimed it as savings. Took him way too long to even take our order. Had to ask for refills of water twice. After food was delivered I knew it had been sitting under heat lamp awhile as my lettuce garnish was crispy and brown. Food was lukewarm, rice crunchy, cheese enchiladas were cold. Took forever to get the check. Hostess was an idiot on the way out. Repeated same question over and over as we were paying. No, we do not need the receipt. I ate at this location yesterday. August 17, 2017. The refried beans are watery have no flavor. Worst food I have eaten in a long time. On top of that I had diarrhea all night. The only thing good was the chips. I got a margarita on the rocks the glass was full of big ice so I got maybe l/4 of a margarita. Very disappointed in this location. read more

Delicious!!! Well, I've only been here once and my dish was to die for. This was my first mexican restaurant since being in Texas so I had to try and find something I enjoyed. My signature dish in California no matter where I went was steak ranchero. I didn't see anything similar to that on the menu so I asked our waiter. He gave the best recommendation and I don't regret asking him about what dishes were similar to the steak ranchero. I will definitely be back here! read more

El Fenix is one of those places that I always pass by and never go in to...until tonight. My friends and I were trying to get into another Tex-Mex place but the 2 hour wait was just not happening. It's pretty good. I got the monterrey chicken...it came out in less than 5 minutes..so I don't know if that's good or bad, They lack the luster and flavor of of their competition. The food was bad -- fish was old, smelled, and was really repulsive. It was sent back for a cheese enchilada. This was served covered with chili. This was a Friday in Lent so there is to be no meat for a Catholic. It was sent back a third time. I had requested no rice. Well, my family and I wanted to try out their $1 tacos for taco night and planned to order a lot of other food too. We planned our big family dinner night this morning when El Fenix sent us their $1 tacos offer for National Taco Day via the FAVOR app. All gathered & ready fo dinner, my husband drove up there & was told they are OUT OF MEAT for the $1 tacos. Apparently PORK is the only meat they have available. That's laughable considering they are literally right next door to an open grocery store, lol. But clearly they are not out of the meats as they are still fully serving patrons and are still offering a plethora of $1 tacos on the FAVOR app with all meats! So I if you actually get in your car and drive all the way to their restaurant, they will turn you away & DENY THEIR OWN ADVERTISED OFFER!!! I just looked & the offers are still 100% available on the FAVOR app. I'll include screen shots. I don't know who is running this place, but what a nightmare & it has totally ruined our family dinner night. No one wants Tex-Mix now & we're getting Sonic instead. THE LEAST the manager could have done is offer us a RAINCHECK. Ever heard of that before El Fenix? If you advertise it & are still offering & selling it online for delivery, then why would you turn away new customers??? SOOOOOO VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! Their chips are awesome, but everything else about this restaurant screams, "We're riding our reputation". The waiters seem almost mechanical. Limited eye contact, sort of bored with the whole thing. I really like this place. We come here often. Service is fast, friendly and helpful. The décor is well done, and the place is always sparkling clean. I really like this type of Tex-Mex food. I guess it may be a bit strange, but I cannot eat anything that is too spicy or hot, so this is just perfect for me. My favorite is the fresh spinach chicken enchiladas.
