I usually stick to my go-to order -- the half pizza with an arugula side salad -- but this time I decided to switch things up. I ordered the Thai Coconut Salad, swapped the chicken for tofu, and added a cup of sweet potato soup since it was freezing outside. I also grabbed a kombucha and ate everything inside the restaurant. The food was exactly what I needed: fresh, flavorful, and super comforting. One thing I always appreciate about Modern Market is how transparent they are with calorie counts and nutrition info. They make it easy to customize meals, especially if you're vegetarian or just want to swap out a protein. It's such a relief to go somewhere that's both flexible and consistent. I know a lot of their orders are takeout, so I also appreciated having a clean, quiet space to sit down, warm up, and get some sustenance before hitting the road again. Our appetizer arrived lukewarm and was served at the same time as our main dishes, despite being ordered with drinks. The waitstaff seemed to neglect checking in on us; our coffee carafe was empty for quite some time, as were our water glasses. To make matters worse, our plates were not cleared after we finished eating, which only added to the feeling of being forgotten. I ordered the Trifecta with a carrot cake pancake, expecting something special, but it turned out to be just a basic pancake with carrots, raisins, and nuts added. It lacked the unique flavors and creativity I had hoped for, making it not worth the trip or the money. To top it off, the table across from us sent back an order. As one partner finished eating, the other's new dish arrived. This just added to the sense of disorganization in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning to this First Watch location anytime soon. There are plenty of other brunch spots that offer better service and more memorable meals.
