I've only had one experience here but man was it horrific. My experience was consistent with a lot of the other reviews...dirty, rude, bad food, and the worst margarita I think I have ever had. I was coming from Spiceland. I usually go to a Mexican place in Knightstown. A friend talked me into trying this place. Our friendship is now rocky. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was the filth. The windows are dirty, the blinds were nasty and all of them were crooked or broken. If the customer facing stuff is that bad, imagine the kitchen. The next thing I noticed was how seemingly unhappy they were to help us. Very standoffish and just downright rude. The server wasn't any better. I saw they listed some good tequilas so I wanted a top shelf margarita. The server said "they are pre made and it's with 1800". That's not top shelf but whatever, it's a margarita right? Let's do it. It tasted like a lime flavored snow cone. I left half of it on the table. Have you EVER done that? Yeah, me neither! I ordered the Pollo Toluca. It looked good and even tasted pretty decent. When I got back to where I was staying, I had to sprint to the bathroom! YIKES. I was left with no reason to ever try it again. Hopefully my review can help them either improve or close and do something they love. read more

"Never eat Mexican food north of Dallas or east of the Mississippi." But, I'm happy to say that El Chile Poblano broke all the rules. We were in town visiting family and decided to live life on the edge and try some Mexican food in Indiana. Backstory - we are from Texas where you can get good TexMex almost anywhere. We walked in and was met with the familiar smells of fajitas and thought this might be ok. The chips and salsa were on point. The salsa was thick and chunky with a good variety of flavors; onion, cilantro and maybe a hint of pepper but no so spicy you couldn't enjoy it. When learning we were from Texas the waiter brought us a small bowl of their white queso (cheese dip on the menu) and it was surprisingly good; it was a little runny but was heavy on flavors, possibly some of the house salsa mixed into the queso that gave it the flavor kick. We went on the safe side and ordered the "Texas Fajitas" and were very happy. The portion size was plenty big enough for the two of us to split. The beef and chicken were nicely seasoned and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Overall, I would gladly go back to El Chile Poblano. Good food, plenty of flavor, friendly wait staff and perfect price point for the quality and quantity of food you get. read more

Our 2st time at this location and we'll I wasn't to impressed with it. There were some pros but not enough to warrant going back. Pros: very easy and convenient location. Clean inside and out. Services was fairly quick Food was correct. were Cons:The servers were not friendly, no personality. We was the 2nd customer in the restaurant and I felt like they could've turned the music down a little. Although the food came out correct it wasn't hot at all. The Refried beans were room temperature at best I got 4 crunchy tacos and the seasoned beef tasted like sausage and it wasn't even hot enough to melt the cold cheese on top of it. It was right out of the cooler cold. 30.00 plus tip wasn't offered any kind of dessert or drinks nothing apparently we was suppose to know what they served. I just think it's Valentine's Day atleast suggest a dessert. I really wouldn't make this one of my favorite places and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are two main Mexican restaurants in New Castle, and this is one of them. I have been to this location once because we typically go to the other restaurant. My sister personally like this restaurant so we gave it a go. I am personally a huge fan of Mexican cuisine and can be slightly picky at times because of how much I do actually enjoy Mexican food. One of my favorite things to order at any Mexican style restaurant is the chicken with queso and rice Along with the fresh homemade tortillas this is how I rate Mexican restaurants along with the taste of the salsa and tortilla chips. I know that the restaurants are not a classic type of a Mexican restaurant or classic Mexican food that you would get if you were actually in Mexico, but this is what we have available to us. The chicken, queso, rice and tortillas are known by many different names at the different restaurants; Usually called the chef's special that many places. This restaurant brought us out chips and salsa very quickly, but unfortunately, the chips were cold and stale and the salsa did not taste very good. I think because the salsa was most likely not fresh. With the main course, the first thing I noticed was that the portion size was much larger than other restaurants of the same exact item. The other difference I noticed was the chicken itself. The chicken was more tough and chewy than I would typically expect at any other restaurant with the same menu item. The tortillas we're also not warm and soft, like you were typically get from a Mexican restaurant. These tortillas were cold, tough, and just not very flavorful. I am unsure if I would be personally willing to give this location another try because of my experiences at the other restaurant that is much busier and more well-known in this city. The pro of this restaurant are the portion sizes compared to the price. The con of this restaurant is that nothing was fresh. Now, this could be due to many different factors, and just being an off night for the restaurant, but it certainly left a slightly negative remark with me. My recommendation is neither here nor there, because I have only had one bad experience. If you want to give this place a try, go ahead and do so. read more

Locals recommend the restaurant on 14th over an identically named one elsewhere in New Castle. Evidently, they are owned by two separate entities. I do not know about that for sure, however. I only ate at this one, but it was fabulous. The salsa was homemade, and the fajitas al poblano was excellent. They have some draft beers, including Dos Equis, both dark and light. We popped in for some carryout while at an event in New Castle. Ordering was easy (other than having a lot of choices) and the food arrived quickly and all packaged to go. Our lunch entrees also included chips and salsa. We opted for the 'regular' salsa and it had plenty of spice. I love the atmosphere, the salsa and the staff is friendly. However, this is the 3rd to 4th time that my food is so salty it is not edible. I had the La Superior tonight and both the burrito & relleno were extremely salty. I ate every bit of the salsa and chips though. I almost wonder if it is not the tomato based products they use, but whatever it needs to be addressed. I feel for the person on a low sodium diet that sneaks a meal here. The prices are reasonable for generous portions if you do manage to eat and get past the salty taste. read more

This has been one of our favorite restaurants in New Castle, the last 5-6 times we have been there, its been disappointing. A employees Childs was on her IPAD/Tablet and it was so loud, 3 tables away, we could not carry on a conversation. Then last week, we (just 2 two of us) went on a Friday afternoon, and they had the worst service. it took 20 minutes for us to get chips and sodas. Very, very slow service. 45 before we got our food, after we ordered. there were 2 people at another table. that's it. there are other instances. BUT tonight was the worst. Then tonight i ordered a fajita to go. and one to eat in the restaurant. OUR waitress, after discussing it several times, (i wanted to take a fajita meal to go, and one to eat there,) she put all the fajita meat and veggies on mt skillet. Then brought the beans, rice, and guacamole salad to go. I asked where the meat was, she said it was all there!! so if the person that was getting the to go order wanted meat, they had to eat mt leftovers! This was not what i ordered. She just shrugged her shoulders, I don't know when I'll go back, if I ever do. Extremely disappointed. read more

Te amo, El Chile Poblano! Born and bred in New Castle, there aren't a whole lotta options for going out to eat. This place has been mine and my family's old standby for a whole lot of years. It's great for a quick dinner or to take a large group to and get a little rowdy. How many times have I sucked down an entire margarita pitcher? Well, definitely more times than I (and my liver) would like to think about. Drinks are good (margaritas, also sangrita margarita which is I think a combination of sangria and margaritas and is 100% delicious). Food is also soooo good. My favorite on the menu is the Quesadilla Rellena which is a big ass quesadilla stuffed with your choice of chicken, beef or shrimp (or combo!) and sauteed peppers, onions tomatoes, etc. Comes with your own rice, beans and guacamole salad which is important when you're trying to clear the 5,000 calorie mark. I've had fajitas, enchiladas, chimichangas, soup, random salad, random other entrees and everything is so good. Service is as you would expect - quick and to the point. Have a bit of a language barrier depending on who you get, but that's part of the fun. Mexican restaurants in central Indiana differ on three points: cleanliness, service, and salsa. El Chile Poblano scored on all three. I had the Burrito Poblano, which is their version of the "stupidly large burrito." It was very flavorful, but I agree with Abbe C. that the food was a little salty. I still enjoyed it. Cheerful, friendly staff--and the salsa was good. If I lived in New Castle, this would be one of my go-to spots. read more

I'm in New Castle a few times a year, and if I'm craving Mexican, this is my go to place. I'd like to give it a 5 star, but it's not quite deserving. The service CAN be spotty, but is usually pretty darn good. The food is tasty, but for Mexican fare, pretty basic. The menu LOOKS big, but upon further perusal, there aren't a ton of choices. But, there ARE enough for the casual diner. Considering that New Castle is a little bit off of the beaten path, I'd say they are worth a stop if you're in town. read more

We were on our way back home, going through New Castle at lunch time so a quick look on yelp suggested El Poblano. One our favorite foods is Mexican and this place looked and sounded good. Well, it did not disappoint. The previous reviews were right on. Fresh hot chips and salsa were served as we sat down to order. The fajetas were on the lunch menu so we ordered the chicken, $7.99. They were as good as any we've ever had. Everything was made with fresh ingredients which really made the meal. The service was quick and very friendly. It's definitely on the list for a return on our next trip up that way. read more

I had to come to this restaurant as it seems to be a favorite meeting place for old high school classmates. There are chips and salsa on the table before you can even read through the menu, and the staff was very quick and efficient. My food was a little salty, but I still enjoyed the shrimp al mojo y ajo. The margaritas were really great - no skimping on the tequila here! My fellow diners can be a bit rude and demanding (yes, my parents), and it was water off a duck's back to the staff. I have to eat gluten free food due to celiac disease, and I didn't get sick, which is big for me. In a town littered with fast food and very little amusement, El Chile Poblano offers variety and as much atmosphere as you'll find in a dying post-industrial town. I will probably be back one more time before I leave to finish off my oy-vey-cation. If you're stuck in New Castle, I recommend dining here! read more

Their pretty awesome here. They give you a lot of food for your money. It is really reasonable for the quality of the food. They are nice if you smile at them and try to stir up a conversation with them. Many of them do not speak proficient English so that is why you must create your own customer service environment here.
