I ate at Tarahumara's about a week ago with my co-workers, and I was so blown away that I had to bring my wife and girls back for a second visit. The shrimp cocktail was massive--so fresh and flavorful--though the shrimp could be a bit smaller to make them easier to handle. I had Diego's meal, with a substitution of 2 chicken enchiladas with sour cream and one beef enchilada with red sauce. My wife ordered a shrimp dish with garlic butter, and it was a huge plate she thoroughly enjoyed. I also have to mention their relish is incredible, and they start you off with chips and white queso instead of yellow, which is a really nice touch. The sour cream sauce is excellent. This place is a must-visit, and we can't wait to come back again.

We started with the Tres Hombres, which is a combination appetizer of their queso, guacamole, and salsa. The guacamole was the best, but their queso and salsa were also hits. If you like roasted salsas, this is the one for you. For my main, I opted for the Rio O meal, which is made up of cheese and onion enchiladas topped with two eggs and served with rice and beans. My lady went with the Tio Benny, which is pork tamales topped with Eggs Benedict. A lot of dishes here were mashups like this, and it wasn't a bad thing. My dish was delicious - I only put off my rice as I was saving what space I had for the superior enchiladas and beans. The Tio Benny was reportedly a bit salty but very good, nonetheless. All in all, the food was very good, but the service was exceptional. It is refreshing to get service like this in an industry notorious for a general decline in this skill. Definitely would come back next time we find ourselves in the OKC area.

This is the sleeper of the tex-mexes here in Norman. Seems like everyone forgets how cozy and yummy El Chico is. The food is delivered fast as is usually the case at most mexican fares (unless you go somewhere that is trying too hard to be relevant, then you wait for mediocre food and lousy service). Not so at El Chico. The managers are always on task, not just standing around looking at their help. You can often find one of them dishing out queso or chips or refilling glasses. Mostly though they remember you as a return customer and come chat, which is fantastic and feels like a huge chain restaurant just became a "mom and pop" locale. The servers are hopping back and forth and most of the time you will have at least 3 different people attending to your food needs, chips and queso, drinks, food ordering and then delivered quickly and piping hot. Try the Sweet Peach Tea, you will never regret this and when you drive away without a ToGo cup, you will think about that sweet peach tea until you can come back for another one. It is delicious and refreshing. There are fun coupons on Facebook and freebies on almost every holiday, including some goodies to look out for on OU game days, Thunder Game days. There are huge TVs all over the dining area for game day enjoyment and the air conditioner is always on in the Summer (you're in the mall)!! The servers can make fresh Top Shelf guacamole at your table, like literally you watch them make it from scratch, so it's so fresh you feel like it just came from the garden. The queso cup runneth over and the chips are always the freshest and crispiest in town (IMO). The prices just cannot be beat, especially when you can come on enchilada night, fajitas for two night, or really just any time you are looking for a great meal. I take my family of four and never spend more than $40, that's saying a lot in the fast paced, high cost, restaurant world. Went there Friday night with my husband and another couple. Love all the remodeling that was done... But was seated in the back. Food was mediocre... But the drinks and our server made up for it. She was blonde and I believe she said her name was Lori. She was exceptionally personable and made us feel important.. Despite that she was obviously very busy with other tables...We asked for multiple refills on the new improved tortillas and she always said "yes absolutely ' on any of our multiple requests. Traveling from Chicago on our way to Dallas we stopped for dinner at El Chico. The location was not very accessible but it was definitely worth it. From the time we entered the restaurant til our meal was finished we could never express what a great experience we had. The staff was friendly, food was fresh and hot and the atmosphere made my family feel like they were in Mexico. We definitely will visit El Chico on our way back to Chicago.. Can't Wait!!! read more
