My husband and I ate here on Saturday for lunch. We sat at the bar and talked to the bartender, Freddy. Great guy! Loved the quiet atmosphere with dimmed lights. We ordered the grilled chicken burrito and spicy tacos. Our food and drinks came out quickly and everything was delicious with generous portions. Definitely recommend this place if you're in Floyd. It's located on the downtown strip across from the farmer's market. Nearby shopping is within walking distance. read more

Love the location and the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. Reasonable prices on excellent food. Ample portions and decent menu selection with a children's menu to ensure even the most picky child will eat something. Service was very good and staff is very friendly. A family favorite for when we venture to Floyd! read more

This restaurant is a solid 3. Service, food and ambiance was all pretty average. Nothing great, but definitely not bad. If it's a late Sunday afternoon and everything is closed and you are hungry, you can certainly find something here to fill you up. read more

This place has its ups and downs, but fortunately the actual food itself was the main up, so it's a solid 4 stars from me for sure! I was even tempted to give it 5, but I do have to admit that the bathrooms being so distant from the eating area (and having so few, for this many customers) was a pretty big downside for my dining party, and it is a little cramped. I felt like I was always in danger of accidentally knocking something out of the staff's hands if I accidentally gestured too big while talking or stuck out my elbow too far. The decor is nice, and everything seems pretty modern. And the parking situation isn't bad. I'd return here if I were in town again, just maybe not if I had a large group who had mobility issues. Staff was very professional and nice and prices weren't too bad at all. Worth it. read more

Lunch fajitas were delicious. Hubby loved his California Burrito. Salsa was freshly made. We'd come again when in the area

slow food service, food was served cold and or party was it served at the same time so some people finished eating before last person was served! food was sent back as unacceptable. read more

We stopped by here on the way to Christianburg. Nice clean place on the main road. My kids ordered Chicken Burrito and My hubby ordered Fajitas ..They liked it as it was nice balance of heat and aroma. I only ordered plain rice because I was not in a mood of cheese or beans! Salsa Picante is a must try. Our server was humble and kind beautiful lady! Patio behind is a nice area to sit and amphitheater in the back is where I sat for a bit to soak sun! If you are on your way to Burg (VT) or Christiansburg ! Try this place .. it is in Mexican food comfort zone !!! read more

Just terrible. My vegetarian dish was cross-contaminated with chicken pieces, so I sent it back. Enchiladas were cold in the middle. Waiter did not refill drinks or bring the check. I went to the counter to pay and the manager tried to tell me he could not remove the dish I sent back from the check. He said he could only give a partial discount. I balked and said I didn't believe him and would not be paying for that item. Then he begrudgingly removed the item from the check. read more

Great food and service. Not a real fan of Mexican food but this place was delicious. The Mexican steak and cheese was great. Our waitress was friendly and we sat outside and enjoyed the music while we ate. Everything was served hot and the beee was cold. I'm picky about pinto beans but they were great! Def will go back! read more

Not terrible yet not great. Queso is very runny, honestly just fairly plain Mexican food here. Staff is always nice and service good.

Service was terrible. Our meal did not come all together. Half our party was served and finished eating before the rest of us got our meal. The food was served cold. When we asked for hot food, the waitress said the hard tacos are served cold. If you like cold tacos this is your place. We will never return. read more

We were visiting the cute town of Floyd, Virginia with two sheep dogs on a Tuesday afternoon. We had to overcome two issues; a restaurant open on a Tuesday and an outdoor patio that would allow dogs while we had lunch. El Charro fit the bill! We sat at a cute back patio decorated festively. The staff was very friendly and welcomed the dogs. Hot chips and salsa were served while we reviewed it the menu. It was your typical American-Mexican menu with selections of enchiladas, tacos, burritos, fajitas, chimichangas, etc. made with pork, beef, chicken or seafood. I got the chicken fajitas which were seasoned very well and tasted good. I just wish there were more sautéed onions and peppers with it. Every restaurant makes a little bit different version. The accoutrement tray for the fajitas had refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. I put it all of it on a flour tortilla and opened wide! Delicioso! My friend had a beef burrito and said it was tasty as well. No reviews on the margaritas as we had diet Dr. Peppers. There is a large parking lot behind this restaurant which is located on N. Locust St., the main thoroughfare of Floyd. We had a good time at El Charro and the food was decent. read more

We always enjoy Floyd in June. This trip was a total culinary disappointment. Only 2 restaurants open. Outer Space did not have either of the items we ordered. We left. The only other option was El Charro Mexican. We were seated with chips and salsa. No one came to wait on us however parties who came in after us received beverage and food service while servers went in and out right by our table. When we finally ordered the taco salad was floating in a white liquid. Very unappetizing. Enchiladas came without cheese or guacamole. Will not return or suggest! Such a disappointment! read more

Very disappointing Mixed fajitas for two. Portion size was equivalent to fajitas for one. An on again off again problem with this restaurant. read more

What I would consider average typical Tex Mex Mexican restaurant. Out of all the great Mexican restaurants in the area unfortunately I was wow'd. The favors were bland but not bad. My fish tacos were missing something, like Baha sauce or something, they were mild for my flavor pallette. read more

Decent food at a good price point. Nothing was great, but it wasn't bad. Everything was pretty bland. Salsa had no flavor. I asked for a side of jalapeños to spice things up & they were the blandest jalapeños I have ever had...nice and seedy, but no flavor. Beef had no spices either. Again, I wouldn't say it was bad, but very mild and bland. Server was attentive and the place is clean & attractive. read more

El Charro is pretty darn good!! We live in San Antonio where there's tons of Mexican restaurants to pick from. El Charro's food blew us away and is way better than majority of the restaurants we've had in SA. I wish we had one more day in town just to eat the food again! read more

As a Latino, worst Mexican food ever!! Pero los grinos love this place. The salsa was literally tomato sauce. I asked for Nachos, all the cheese was in the bottom melted and just chicken on top ( no lettuce no sour cream no beans,) very bad... The staff was very nice and friendly. ( 10/10) Just good wasn't good & and yeah they charged me other stuff that I did Not order. Didn't realize when I got home. read more

This is our original hometown Mexican. We have been eating here for too many years to count and still love it. The food is consistent and special orders are not a problem because it's all fresh! It's family owned and you can always see the same friendly places. Now that they have a bar space and a larger variety of drinks it is even better! read more

Food was very good. Tiny place, but clean and cute. Big portions. Bean dip was very tasty!

Best steak taco salad in 3 states! Wonderful welcoming staff. Fun atmosphere. Very clean. One of our favorite restaurants!

im only rating this place 5 stars because it has dino nuggets for my kiddo. The chicken dishes are the bomb!

We love El Charro!! Their food is great, and staff is helpful and friendly. Recently had an exceptionally good experience when they helped accommodate my son (on his birthday) with some newly diagnosed food allergies. Really appreciate their willingness to go above and beyond to make the day special for him! read more

El Charro Mexican Grill is a perfectly good place for a meal. We came for a light dinner and left satisfied. Service here is friendly and attentive. We ordered some nachos and quesadillas and they were both decent. The food was filling and well-seasoned although I thought the dishes needed some acid for counterbalance. This is where the food tasted a little one-note after several bites and visually just didn't pop on the plate. This is where the salsa from the chips came in handy though to liven it up a little. Cheap beers also a plus. If you're swinging by town and need a place to feed the family efficiently, El Charro Mexican Grill is a good option. The food is decently good, the prices are really fair, the setting is lively, and the servers here will take good care of you. read more

When our food was sat down in front of us a flea jumped on me. Unsure if it was from kitchen runner, plate, or table area. Tried to overlook it because it's one of few places in town and we were very hungry and later in the day. Left when an ant was crawling across the table. Paid our tab after letting management know. No adjustment to our tab. Have to walk around the building for a shared bathroom with rest of building. Won't be back. read more

Truly some of the best Mexican food I've had in awhile. Even my boyfriend agreed. We were up I. laurel fork and decided to drive into town to get some lunch. El Charro was a life saver!! My daughter was supposed to be married in a garden, but it started sleeting and raining. The friendly staff at El Charro were kind enough to let us use their covered patio to perform the ceremony since we're from out of town and didn't know where else to go. Afterwards, offered us a separate room to celebrate, and even surprised the newlyweds with their version of a wedding cake. It was an adorable heart shaped fried tortilla drizzled in chocolate syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles. Super friendly and the food was delicious! El Charro made what could've been a real mess, a very special day! read more

Two stars for food, zero stars for charging my credit card twice and not resolving the problem. The comprehensive menu covers the usual Mexican-American fare. The food arrived quickly. It was pretty flavorless and mushy, about the level of what you might get at a school lunch. The meat in the tacos didn't really taste like anything, and really, it seemed like someone took a vacuum cleaner and sucked any hint of flavor out of the meat, seafood, beans, salsa, and cheese. It was quite an accomplishment in fact. What really peeved me is that they ran my credit card twice. I pointed this out, and the manager/owner said that if I indeed got charged twice, she would credit me. Duplicate charges showed up on my credit card statement, so I called and asked for a credit. She asked me to bring my statement to show her. I live 1 hour away, so this would involve a 2-hour drive. I asked if I could fax it or e-mail it. No dice. I asked if she could look it up in her records and offered to give her the two transaction numbers. No answer. I asked if I could send a copy by snail mail. She said she could not receive snail mail. WHAT?! She took my phone number and said her daughter would call with an e-mail address. Guess what: I never got a call back. Guess what: I will never go back, and I will steer others away from El Charro. read more

The service and food at this restaurant were great. We ordered takeout and I had a margarita and husband had a beer here this past Saturday night. We were there about 9:30pm and they close at 10pm. The servers and manager could not have been more accommodating. We sat on the deck and waited with our drinks, chips, queso dip and salsa. They have really good salsa! The only reason I did not rate them five stars is because we did not eat a meal in the restaurant itself. Also, the only thing that did not impress was the queso dip. It was too thin and could have been served as a drink. The salsa made up for it though! Overall it's great and the servers and manager are really nice people. read more

Met friends for dinner. Excellent service. Fast, friendly, accurate. We were a party of 15 and they made us welcome. Good food, too

Tucked away behind the local shops in Floyd, El Charros is an authentic mexican restaurant with great hot food and very friendly employees. It's a small restaurant but big on favor. On a warm day you can choose to eat outside on the covered porch area. They have a ramp for handicap people large enough for a wheelchair. Parking is okay, not paved or spots marked but there is plenty of parking. read more
