Really delicious! Homemade tortillas, beans were tasty and rich, barbacoa was tender and flavorful. These aren't huge burritos. If you're a big eater, you might need two, but they are priced very fairly from $5.99 to 8.99 depending on what you get. Barbacoa was $6.99. I am really tempted to go get another one lol read more

I happened to have an appointment in Monterey so I was thrilled to find out they were now open! I recommend ordering via the app..the only issue I had was at time of pick up. There was only 1 line and and I got a lot of side eyes when they all thought I was jumping ahead. I'm no shrinking violet...so I let the other customers know I already pre-ordered and paid. I'm guessing since it's small area there's no designated separate pre order line like in Salinas. Maybe an interim fix is to have a sign for pre order pick up! Oh...and someone previously posted that the coupon codes don't work at this site...but that's incorrect I noticed that as long as you have a valid code...the initial message tells you it's not valid, but if you review your balance you can see the deduction. I drove out to Salinas from Santa Cruz for the OG El Charrito. Then ended up going to the express location in Monterey the next day. The flavors are very close. The edge goes to the OG location. I think the tortillas are a little better there. But still very good in Monterey! read more

This place is kinda crazy, but in the best way. No seating in the restaurant, which caught us off guard, but was not an issue. There was a turnstyle type of line, which speaks volumes. The workers were really friendly and ALL the food was amazing! Y'all have got to try this place!!!! read more

I usually come in to order a Burrito, however noticed on the menu board they added Taquitos so I tried them. Taquitos are more like mini beef Tacos. The taste was ok, but Wow...SOOO expensive!!! Minimum order is 2 taquitos but they charge by the piece-$3.50 each. Not realizing this I ordered 4 taquitos it came out to over $14.00!!! I added guacamole and THAT was an extra $4.00. So for lunch for ONE person came out to be OVER $19.00!!! I didn't even order a beverage. I'll never ordered that again...WAY overpriced for 4 mini tacos with guacamole! read more

Sorry, don't see the hype. I had a breakfast burrito, egg, chorizo, & potato & I asked for spicey salsa. My husband had the same, but w/mild salsa. We both thought they were bland. He also had the bacon burrito & at least w/that one, he could taste the bacon! Sure, the tortillas were fresh & soft, but I wanted the fillings to be tasty as well. Bigger than frozen burritos you find at grocery stores but definitely smaller than burritos sold at a typical taqueria place. For me I think El charritos medium to small burritos are perfect because you can easily pair them with chips/salsa or chips/guacamole combo. The carne asada was super dry and so was the tortilla. Very bad low quality food like it had been sitting out. The girls who made our order forgot our salsas and didn't add the ones we picked. The burritos here are good. Learned of them from coworkers who live in Salinas who would bring these burritos in for all of us. What a treat. Super excited that one was opening close to my home. Ordered here twice and the staff is rude, indifferent and when you ask them questions, they answer like I am bothering them. It's annoying and I don't feel as if they care for my business. 1st time I went was on a weekend and I thought it was because they were busy. I've read good reviews about this place so I was nearby and got here when they just opened. It was pretty early so I was the only one in the place. They were still setting up when I came in so no one noticed me for a little bit and then a lady came out and asked what I wanted. She didn't seem very happy, maybe because it was too early? I ordered the huevo con chile burrito with a mix of rice and beans. I didn't eat there but took the burrito back to my hotel room. So I finally got back to my room and took a bite of the burrito and didn't really notice anything special about it. The second bite however is when I really noticed the fresh tortilla. I don't think I've ever had a fresh tortilla like that it was pretty good. Something about the flavor and texture and the freshness made the rest of chomping down the burrito a good experience. Monterey location is great - fast in and out. Food is very good quality for the most part. Helps if you speak some spanish, but not totally necessary when ordering. The girls that work the to-go counter in back are all quick and do a great job keeping the line moving. I mean if you want better mexican food than El charrito, you'd probably have to actually go to Mexico. So far this is the best I've been able to find in Monterey. read more

This place has awesome burritos and they make their tortillas in house. I have been coming here for about a year now. The last time I went in, I noticed that they charged separately for cheese and salsa. I'm not sure if this is new for them, but I really hate to be nickled and dimed. I can't think of anyone ordering a burrito and not getting cheese or salsa. First of all express means take out which is ok. Customer service is good but the Flour tortilla looked good while being cooked but the taste of awful. Flour tortilla had no taste and tasted uncooked. The spicy salsa was not spicy at all. The coffee was disgusting we threw it out. read more

I don't normally like to leave negative reviews but when restaurants food is just so bland I have to say something. This is my second time going here. The first time was about a month ago and I tried two of the lunch burritos. The barbacoa, because it is one of my favorites but they did an abysmal job with it. The flavor was just so off. I also got a chile verde burrito which was just slop. Their tortillas have such an overpowering flower taste and smell it is just very off putting. This is their fast food style restaurant inside of a nicer restaurant by evening, Alejandro's. Makes me question what quality of food they serve at Alejandro's. Today I asked for a bacon burrito but they were already out so I tried the ham and the tortilla was so overpowering with flour taste but the ingredients had no flavor. One bite and that was done which was the same situation last time. I really wanted to like this place but after two times trying both breakfast and lunch there will definitely not be a third. read more
