The place is very clean and wish they had seating area, but you just get your food and have a picnic by the bay. I can't wait to go back and try a different burrito. Found this place on a whim and it didn't disappoint. The food was fresh, hot and homemade tortillas were a hit. The service is quick as it's an express - there isn't anywhere to sit and eat. Strictly to go. My partner and I had one burrito and shortly went back in for another as they are small burritos. Burritos are good but not as good as the Salinas location. They overload them with rice and skimp on the meat. Carnitas was dry as well. Staff is also kind of rude and not very friendly. If you want El Charrito stick with the OG location. read more

I've read good reviews about this place so I was nearby and got here when they just opened. It was pretty early so I was the only one in the place. They were still setting up when I came in so no one noticed me for a little bit and then a lady came out and asked what I wanted. She didn't seem very happy, maybe because it was too early? I ordered the huevo con chile burrito with a mix of rice and beans. I didn't eat there but took the burrito back to my hotel room. So I finally got back to my room and took a bite of the burrito and didn't really notice anything special about it. The second bite however is when I really noticed the fresh tortilla. I don't think I've ever had a fresh tortilla like that it was pretty good. Something about the flavor and texture and the freshness made the rest of chomping down the burrito a good experience. Came for breakfast and it was awesome. I didn't take any pictures but the ambiance of this business is really great. I wish I could have had a chance to sit down but the dining area wasn't open for breakfast. I made myself a custom burrito and although the burrito was pretty small, the fresh tortilla was really great. I would highly recommend this place to grab something quick and easy. You'll be in and out with a quick tasty bite. Only problem is the price for the burrito is a bit much for the size. But the flavor makes up for the amount of food to balance it out in my opinion. read more

I get there at 8:15 and they haven't even started on the order. 2 people get in line and instead of finishing my order they stop and take their order and ring them up. Well how to begin, being born and raised in Salinas I guess I can say I have been spoiled with growing up around the original el charrito market. I remember going there for the first time with my dad at a very young age (7). Back when the burrito section was small as they sold mostly carne and it was a market actually. I have vivid memory's of going there with my cousins as kids and adults to get burritos then going to the train station sitting on a bench and eating in the silence of the railroad. So I was beyond excited to know they would be opening one in Monterey where I now live with my family. And guess what ? I find myself driving to Salinas still for a good burrito. Idk what the issue is but the burritos DO NOT TASTE THE SAME. The charm is not there it has a commercial chipotle vibe here in Monterey. Very disappointed in the food. Really delicious! Homemade tortillas, beans were tasty and rich, barbacoa was tender and flavorful. These aren't huge burritos. If you're a big eater, you might need two, but they are priced very fairly from $5.99 to 8.99 depending on what you get. Barbacoa was $6.99. I am really tempted to go get another one lol read more

I happened to have an appointment in Monterey so I was thrilled to find out they were now open! I recommend ordering via the app..the only issue I had was at time of pick up. There was only 1 line and and I got a lot of side eyes when they all thought I was jumping ahead. I'm no shrinking violet...so I let the other customers know I already pre-ordered and paid. I'm guessing since it's small area there's no designated separate pre order line like in Salinas. Maybe an interim fix is to have a sign for pre order pick up! I drove out to Salinas from Santa Cruz for the OG El Charrito. Then ended up going to the express location in Monterey the next day. The flavors are very close. The edge goes to the OG location. I think the tortillas are a little better there. But still very good in Monterey! read more

Went here again today. I don't eat out often but my mom works a block away so every few months I pick up burritos and enjoy lunch with my mom and her coworkers. Today I got there at 12:20pm. I was expecting the lunch rush but I was out of there in less than 10 min with 4 burritos, chips, and guac for under $40 with tip. Plus I think my burrito was a few dollars more than the meat burritos. Because I got a chili relleno burrito (which wasn't on the menu last visit) and it was WELL worth the up charge. A fat relleno with pinto beans, a lil rice, and pico de Gallo. It was so big the nice lady behind the counter could barely roll the delicious handmade fresh tortilla around it. But she did and it stayed together nicely while eating it. It was delicious!!! A tad greasy...but that's unavoidable when chowing down a yummy chili relleno. For the quality of food you would be hard pressed to find a better option to feed 4 people for such a good price. This is such a great addition to downtown Monterey! Eat here! read more

This is one of those total hit & miss experiences. After several tries I've decided to not patronize this business anymore. My problem is the complete inconsistencies in their food. Depending on who helps you, you will either get a very nice fat burrito or an extremely skimpy one. My last order was 2 Chile Verde burritos. Both of them literally had 0 meat in them. I usually come in to order a Burrito, however noticed on the menu board they added Taquitos so I tried them. Taquitos are more like mini beef Tacos. The taste was ok, but Wow...SOOO expensive!!! Minimum order is 2 taquitos but they charge by the piece-$3.50 each. Not realizing this I ordered 4 taquitos it came out to over $14.00!!! I added guacamole and THAT was an extra $4.00. Bigger than frozen burritos you find at grocery stores but definitely smaller than burritos sold at a typical taqueria place. For me I think El charritos medium to small burritos are perfect because you can easily pair them with chips/salsa or chips/guacamole combo. Ordered here twice and the staff is rude, indifferent and when you ask them questions, they answer like I am bothering them. It's annoying and I don't feel as if they care for my business. 1st time I went was on a weekend and I thought it was because they were busy.
