This is easily in the top 3 places I like to eat in Johnson City. The employees are all very kind, helpful and professional. They make you feel welcome. The restaurant is always pretty loud, especially around the bar, but it does not get to the pool where you want to leave due to the volume level. The food is always amazing and on point. NO LONGER DOG FRIENDLY. I wanted to save you a trip. I've brought my dog there for a decade. Hes we'll behaved and just sleeps next to the table on the patio. I went back to eat there this weekend and all of the staff acted like it has always been no dogs. They even pointed to a sign on the door. I said my dog had been there 100 times, finally one staff said since the remodel, they were no longer allowing dogs even on the patio. read more

Excellent restaurant - GREAT food. But I have a complaint...the waiter did not write down the order. I very specifically stated what I wanted, and he REPEATED IT to me. Exactly. Twenty minutes later, he brought me something else. I let him know that the order was not correct. He INSISTED that it was what I ordered. He BLAMED ME. Keep in mind, that he verbally repeated what I had originally ordered. I have never encountered that. My dinner partner was annoyed that he said, what he said. MAKE SURE, that your staff WRITES DOWN THE ORDERS. I don't appreciate being blamed for their mistakes. (And I still gave him a good tip. I am not a jerk.) read more

In general their food is decent. However, I recommend checking if your plate has queso. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of queso on my food. Chips and queso, that's a different story though. I love their table top guac. I can eat that all day. Tacos are decent too. I ordered a taco salad. At the time I didn't think to check to see if queso was an added ingredient but to my surprise it was and boy did they flood my salad with it to the point it looked like a bowl of soup with a shell. I'll keep eating there, but will be paying more attention to what ingredients are being served. read more

We ordered a bowl Of homemade guacamole and the flavor was good but it had some bruised Abi in it so it didn't look very appealing. I got a jalapeño margarita and it was very tasty. Not too spicy. Perfect. I ordered a design your own combo plate and only ate the tamale and the Chile rellano. The enchilada was not baked, just assembled with a ground beef that had a weird texture and taste so I didn't eat it. The tostada also had the weird meat. My husband got a sautéed steak dish that had good flavor and cooked decent. Still a little tender. I thought his refried beans did not taste good at all. The chips and salsa were good. Great food for the price. Mexican restaurant in the Kroger shopping center. I was impressed with their bar area then saw their specials and was even more impressed. You can get a 13oz margarita for 2.95 with the purchase of a meal on Monday and Wednesday each week and they don't up charge for different flavors . I had two of those, a cheese dip and the #5 combo which is two beef tacos, rice and beans. My total for all this was $15 and some change. The food was really good too! Been frequenting "El Kroger" for a few years now and it has never disappointed. We just recently ordered take-out from there, and it was as good as eating inside. This place is in a plaza, but it has a very comfortable feel inside. We were seated quickly the entire staff was very friendly. Our server was Kevin he went above and beyond a real genuine person, he gave us ideas of other restaurants to try since we will be in the area for three weeks. He brought my husband extra bottles of hot sauce to try since he likes things a bit spicy The food was good portions were large. Kevin kept our chips and salsa full. My husband and I are new to the area and have now visited this restaurant twice. The first time was enjoyable. We both like our meals, the service, and the cantaritos. In February, we paid $8.99 per cantarito which I thought was reasonable. When we returned in March to order the same exact drinks, we received the bill and our jaws dropped. The manager informed us that they raised their drink prices but hadn't yet adjusted the menu to reflect the change. We were told that the new price of ONE cantarito is now $18.99 and he refused to adjust them on our bill due to the lack of transparency. I could not be more displeased to have spent over $140 at this establishment. I will never return to this restaurant and disguise people that do business like this. Complete rip off in my opinion. Upon walking in, we waited several minutes for someone to acknowledge us. There's hardly any room to stand inside and seating is tight. No one was friendly at all. The person seating us, the waiter or the person checking us out. Food was extremely slow to come out. The spinach enchiladas and the steak al la mexicana was extremely bland. I give this place a 4 stars, mainly because the food is excellent. If you're looking for Spanish food, I would definitely recommend food is always hot and maybe you get a good waitress but not all the time sometimes the waitress can be rude won't really come and check up on you and the managers are also a little rude of my opinion one day me and my sister went there and they were just staring at us in our face before asking us like anything. So overall, I will give the service 2 to 3 stars simply because of how we were treated now the food five out of five stars so if you don't really care about the service and it's just here for the food definitely recommend! read more

I understand that some may not have experienced true authentic mexican food and this is all they know which is fine... but the beans were salty, the rice lacked flavor and the cheese used on everything was a white nacho cheese. The service was also disappointing as our server did not smile or seem to enjoy her job. The rest rooms had toilet paper piled in the corner instead of in the toilet paper receptacles. The enchilada sauce tasted from a can. Lack of flavor and texture. I do not plan to ever visit this establishment again. read more
