Awesome lunch. Combo #5 plate and Enchilada dinner on our way south. Waitress was very sweet and fast. It's been remodeled since we were here last but it's been awhile! read more

Had not been here in years and we were excited to eat here again. Pretty hard to mess up Mexican food but the food was terrible. Chips and hot sauce the only good part of the meal. $40 for lunch for two. Won't spend our money here again. read more

I am originally from Tulia that business has been run by the same family for decades. Always high-quality food and affordable prices. Funeral tomorrow will be the Chili Rellenos. read more

I love this place but tonight sucked big time! Food was terrible & service was worse. We sat there for over an hour with no food, no chip refills, no drink refills, then they came out with the tables food, expect one because they ran out but didn't come to tell us until everyone else's food was delivered, and someone else ordered a salad and didn't get it until after everyone else - literally a salad! All the food delivered was room temperature. Quesadillas was ordered in place of what they ran out of and they were burnt to a crisp. I understand being short staffed, but this was ridiculous. At least the manager worked with us to comp the bad food. read more

We were headed home late from a trip to CO. I found them online and called at 9:40 to see if they'd still take a party of 10. (They closed at 10). They gladly said yes! Then, when we passed our turn in a motorhome & horse trailer, then made a U turn, we got high centered and stuck! So I called and they said the table was ready & they'd wait on us. We pulled in at 10:30, were greeted with smiles and served good food. Customer service goes a long way with us and had they have closed shop & went home at 10 we'd have been about 2 hours from a meal. This restaurant was cute & clean with impressive artwork displayed throughout. Don't let the stinky feedlots in this town fool you! Stop in at El Camino for a meal! Also- easy access parking for truckers & big rigs!!! read more

This medium-sized restaurant in a small West Texas town was everything I look for when I amble across this wonderful, spacious, sparsely populated area of the U.S. in my camper van. Good food, right at a crossroads (thus easy to find), and a big lot for me im which to park my Minnie Winnie. Tulia is of course infamous in recent memory for patently false charges of drug dealing and subsequent overturned convictions of many of its African American residents. Yet it remains a beautiful little town with broad avenues and neatly kept 1920s and 30s and 40s houses. The businesses are trim and appear prosperous. Being the county seat of Swisher County and situated just east of I-27 from Amarillo to Lubbock, the town does well. The El Camino Dining Room, which I gather is rather new, is evidence of that. The interior is what I love most in a decent restaurant, a mixture of nice paneled walls, original art for sale, track lighting, scuffed tables and chairs, old flowered "hotel" carpet, water stained fiberboard ceilings, and lots of signs about local events. The restaurant actually has three distinct dining areas, which keeps the feeling intimate, keeping the actual noise level low do you can hear the conversations of other diners. In this part of the world, one hears talk about cattle, the lack of water, farm/ranch/house upkeep, and lots of wife-murdering-husband sorts of jokes. The staff is friendly but not over attentive, which I like. "You out of coffee?" was something I heard a few times, and then more coffee was offered. Very nice! The food is traditional short order food PLUS and entire menu page of Mexican food. I ordered the chile relleno and beef enchilada combo. It came with a small guacamole salad which was dressed with lemon juice for a nice tangy effect. Water was served with a slice of lemon AND orange. The lettuce and tomatoes in the salad and on the combo were utterly fresh, cold, and crisp. The chips were crispy and the salsa had a nice, fresh heat but wasn't too spicy. I liked it so much I spooned some it on my meal. The combo was perfect. Nice and hot, very soft, NOT greasy. The chile relleno was excellent, soft yet crispy with a very pungent cheese filling. I could have eaten those all afternoon. The food was very hot, temperature wise, which means I had to savor it, and take small bites. The food was certainly worth the savoring! I plan to stop here again on the way to Caprock Canyons State Park, or wherever else I ramble to. read more

El Camino Dining Room - September 11, 2011 - Mexican Near Me - Tulia, Texas

Lovely little off the beaten path place, hot sauce was great! Service excellent and the food was really yummy!

Small town diamond! The place is older and has the small town feel. The decor is great with Kenneth Wyatt paintings all over. There could be upgrades with flooring, seating, and bathrooms, but the food always makes up for it. Chips and salsa are always good. The salsa has a nice bite to it that will make you not want to stop eating it. My wife enjoyed 2 Chile rellenos. This place makes the best of anywhere we have found. She loves to enjoy honey on her rellenos. I had two beef enchiladas with a Chile relleno. All was just exceptional. If you pass through Tulia find this place. Enjoy!!! read more

I've eaten here three times and though the food is good, they are a bit pricey. It is right at $11 for what they call a "regular dinner" . This does come with a scoop of sherbet or ice cream, and overall is their best value. Average price for most other plates is $9-10. I had the fajita nachos and was unimpressed. Not much meat at all. There's not much in Tulia and this place stays PACKED. Just be aware of the pricing. read more

I stopped into El Camino Dining Room recently and found it to be a pleasant and affordable experience. The enchiladas and side dishes were good and the service was friendly and accommodating to the large group that I was with. If you're passing through Tulia then this is a good option for lunch. read more

Food was good Waitress was friendly and efficient Cashier (middle aged woman who acted like she might be the owner or owner's spouse) needs to lose the "snarky" superior attitude read more

Doesn't look like much but it's got the best food in the state! Fantastic job! Well worth the stop!

Great authentic food. It is well worth the drive! Check out the paintings on the wall, they are painted by an artist who lives in Tulia! Great service and good atmosphere. read more

Perfectly ordinary Tex-Mex. Cheese sauce from a can, chile relleno frozen from a box, you know the drill. Had worse and nothing was floating in pools of grease but there's no authentic Mexican food here either. All bland sameness except for the salsa which is OK. Stop if you have to but driving on is probably a better option. We won't be back. read more

You can't get chili rellenos anywhere else made like these. They are crispy, cheesy and spicy.

This is one of those old out of the way great places to eat. Met friends from Lubbock to have lunch. They said best chili relleno they ever had! Best hamburger in Tulia. Staff treats you like family. Take the trip to Tulia, you will love it! read more

Over the decades, this has been a family favorite. But, this last visit was an unhappy one. The chips have changed from being home made tortillas to something else. The chile rellenos was over fried, so I could hardly taste the Anaheim chiles. The sopapilla was less fluffy and much less of a treat. Was it a bad day? I don't know, but we might not take the drive up 27 again for a very long time. read more

Stopped by this place while driving through the Lone Star state. What you would expect from a small town place. Large amounts of decent food at good prices. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

We were seated promptly and had excellent service throughout our experience. The food was perfect! Best beans and rice I've ever had at a Mexican food restaurant. The guacamole was a little too smooth for my liking, but all in all, the food was great! The bathrooms could be updated, but they were clean. read more

Way over priced ! The food took forever, and it was cold. The waiter was very rude and never refilled our drinks.

For starters, the tables are sticky and the menus need to be replaced. The service is not great, I asked for a water with no ice and a lemon...got a water with ice and no lemon, not rocket science ppl. The food tastes like last nights leftovers and the presentation is lackluster. I'm never going back, read more

Tulia is known for this restaurant but I am going to be honest when I say that the food is ok. I have had much better authentic Mexican food. The amount of chile powder & grease they use leaves a film in your mouth & an uneasy feeling in your gut. read more

Fantastic Chili Rellenos! It was crispy and had a wonderful cheese sauce on it. My meal was so large that I couldn't eat it all. I love their Hot Sauce too! The service was great, and my meal came quickly. I always stop here when I am in Tulia. read more

$11.95 for a combination plate and rice and beans are additional. Took 20 minutes to get a waitress to even take our drink order. Won't be back. read more

we were a little worried when we ate the hot sauce - it wasn't the greatest. but, the chili rellenos are ALL they claim to be. we live in Amarillo, but will definitely be making a return trip here! read more

Oh. My. God. That was truly disgusting. Even the salsa and queso was bad. Barely ate any of it and I was really hungry when I went in, but it wasn't even worth it. read more

The food was good. Kinda pricey. Had to wait over an hour to get our food with it being half full. Very dated inside.

I bragged on the place for years to my now husband. I almost talked him into making a road trip just for the chili relleno. Thank goodness I didn't. We took a detour on the way to Colorado. The chili relleno was unpalatable. I was so embarrassed. It's actually made for a funny story he tells now about the worst meal we ever had. read more
