The Burrito Tijuana was excellent. I had it with the beef tips and would order exactly the same again. My friend had the Beef Chimichanga, which everything was good except the ground beef had no seasoning, else the rating would be 5 stars. There weren't many people in the restaurant on Saturday at 12:30, but there was plenty of staff on hand. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant looks tired from the outside, but it was clean and cool inside. Don't let the outside fool you, the food is definitely worth a stop! read more

So far this place has been great--went in for lunch while in town. House salsa is really good, tastes homemade and not like marinara sauce. The salsa picosa I requested is definitely homemade, and probably by a sadist. I ordered Arroz con Pollo (chicken over rice w/ cheese sauce) and was rewarded with a massive plate of it. This place is very overpriced and dishonest. An order of Chilaquiles on the menu was just over 13.00 and i was charged 16.88 and they told me the menu prices were wrong. Then the excuse was oh with taxes and it comes with chips and salsa and finally that it was a to go order. I had to ask for a fork after paying almost $17. Wont be reccommending this place or coming back. Food was not good. Got a tiny bit of the main dish i actully orderd and the rest of the tray was filled with rice and lettuce and topped with raw bell peppers and raw onions. Very little flavor on anything. The rice was some of the worst ive had. No flavor at all. Also found a hair in my salsa when i got halfway through it. read more

The Place: El Cabrito has the appearance more or less of all the Mexican restaurants in Dexter, Missouri. You enter and are generally greeted very quickly and sat down. The tables are fairly standard, but the booths are a very solid wood with pretty straight backs (if that would create issues for your back be sure to request a table). There are two seating areas and a bar. There are some bar stools, but the bar really isn't set up to sit at and is rarely attended. Lighting is good, and the recently completed an additional parking area which means you should be able to find a spot. There is a drive thru to meet your pick-up needs. The Food: The joke about Mexican food is that it all tastes the same. Well, maybe there are some common ingredients but they don't taste the same. There are a variety of flavors and spices at work here, and if it all tastes the same to you a) you should quit ordering the same things and try something legitimately different (switching from a bean tostada to a bean burrito doesn't count), or b) you might need to quit killing your taste buds. You will be happy to know that the free chips and salsa you get before your food arrives will meet your general expectations though! They also make a good guacamole. The food itself is well done. It is at least on par with the other Mexican restaurants in town. Why come here if it's just about the same quality as elsewhere? The service definitely tends to be better, and quicker...friendlier, too. One unique item on the menu is the baked potato fajita. It's essentially two split baked potatoes drenched in cheese sauce and covered with fajita steak. There's technically lots to it, but that's sells it for me and should for you too. The Price: The price is right, or at least its on par with the other Mexican restaurants in town. The "right" is that for paying the same price you are likely to get a better experience here.
