In my opinion, the best Mexican food in southeastern Wisconsin! Fresh made to order Their Guacamole goes great with tacos or anything else on the menu. Steak tacos are my favorite, but the al pastor is delicious in tacos or chimichangas. Staff is polite and attentive, and very nice motifs. Plenty of seating and prices are reasonable. read more

I struggled between giving this 2 or 3 stars. I went with 2. Let me start off by saying, I love Mexican food and I do have high expectations when it comes to Mexican restaurants, regardless of the city/state. But as far as my expectations go, it's pretty simple... #1: I want a killer margarita. I'm assuming they have no liquor license because they do not serve alcohol (strike 1). #2: I want great chips and salsa. The chips were served warm, but hard to tell if homemade. The salsa looked and tasted as though it was poured out of a jar (resembled Tostitos salsa), and doctored up with some jalapenos. (strike 2). This is a new restaurant and it's in a very small location. The menu was not very extensive, but had your Mexican staples (burritos, tacos, enchiladas...I forget what else). I ordered the chicken enchiladas with green (verde) sauce. Definitely not the 'mild' verde sauce. The enchiladas were smothered in lettuce, tomato and chunky cheese (not melted) and sour cream. Not what I was expecting (I've never seen lettuce on top of enchiladas before). When I scraped that all off, the enchiladas themselves were pretty flavorless and mushy. Even if the entree is just so-so, at least if I have a really great Margarita and great chips/salsa to make up for it, I'm happy customer. I was so bummed. On the flip side, my husband said his steak tacos were very good. Give it a try for yourself and see what you think. The prices are very reasonable (2 entrees and 2 sodas was $20 before tip). We went here one evening. Omg. The food was good! Just ignore the decor. You are here for the food. Everyone ordered something different. Everyone loved it! There was a lot of food! One guy even ordered seconds as he loved it. We also enjoyed the beverages. The margaritas were good. Not the best...but we were here to eat! Orders do take a while as they make everything to order. By far the best Mexican food in the entire area, this includes surrounding cities too. This place is legit, they make the best most authentic Mexican food around and they are very friendly and thankful for your patronage. If you want REAL authentic Mexican food cooked by people who know what they are doing you have to stop here. It's also in a great location downtown right next to a huge park with rivers and lakes and also right on the downtown shop strip. Whenever I go back to my hometown, I struggle with authentic restaurants that are not of the chain variety (McDonalds, Culvers, Charcoal Grill type chains). I asked a hometown friend to recommend a good restaurant for lunch and she suggested El Burrito Loco. So, we thought we'd give it a shot. We ordered 2 of the combo #1. The chimichanga was a B-, the enchilada was an A, easy. Best part of the meal. The "American taco" is a D+ at best. The menu states your meal is served with rice and beans. The rice couldn't have been any less flavorful unless it was basically plain steamed rice. There was no seasoning to the rice whatsoever. I give the rice an F. The biggest let down was the beans. The were not even room temperature! For that reason alone, they get an F as well. Service. Was it service? No. I had such high hopes for the female covered in arm tattoos, sloppy clothing and the doo rag on her head. She certainly did disappoint. After taking our order, she disappeared off to hang out and talk with another couple that was just about to leave. About 10 minutes later, when our food came, she dropped it off and immediately left the table. At that time, my husband and I were the only patrons in the restaurant. We begin sampling the food as this is our first time eating at El Burrito Loco. I go to stir the beans so the whole 5 strips of shredded cheese would get a chance to melt. That wasn't going to happen because the beans were stone cold. My husband and I tried VERY hard to make eye contact with our waitress. But it is difficult to do when the waitress is behind the counter, her head down while she stares at her phone for TWENTY FIVE MINUTES. I even stopped eating several times and for minutes at a time, hoping to catch eye contact with her. But alas, I gave up. She finally came back to the table with the bill. Not once did she ask "How is everything?" or "does anyone need another drink?" Our chips/salsa were never refilled (not that they were really that great - I'd give them a D+). She asked if we wanted our beans reheated. I told her, "forget it. We're finished eating. Actually we finished eating about 20 minutes ago. We've been sitting here waiting for you to return but since you hadn't, we ate as much as was appetizing. But we're totally done." She mentioned something about having a $5 off coupon (gee, thanks :\) and taking $5 off our bill. It was not easy to pay $18 for fairly moderate, ordinary, mediocre, run-of-the-mill mexican food. The tip was considered quite seriously between my husband and myself. After both of us having worked as waitstaff at one point or another in our lives, we know the expectations that come along with being a competent, successful waiter/waitress. Unfortunately, this waitress missed the mark on many attempts. So, considering we basically had eat in service with a carry out experience, we opted to tip 5%. Which came to .88 cents. Frankly, I would have been fine not tipping her at all, but I did write on the bill "AWFUL SERVICE" just in case anyone reads that or wanted a review of her service. I would likely not go back. Excellent! Would highly recommend this restaurant! Have done takeout there and not eaten in the dining room, so I can't speak to that portion of service. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but clean and orderly. The layout is not fancy, but down to earth and homey. Have had burritos there and they are superb! They are enormous!! Flavors are fresh and the burritos are packed with meat! Prices are extremely reasonable and because the burritos are so big, I can get two meals out of it! The young lady who rang up our orders was polite and friendly. I would advise calling in a take out order about 15 minutes ahead of time. When we did that, our food has been ready right when we walked in the door. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant. Food was excellent and is a very good value for the money. This restaurant is a good addition to Burlington and hopefully they will do well here. read more

I have been driving by this place for a while and my co-worker said "let's go" today so we did. When we walked in at 11:30 am, we were the only people there. I was apprehensive, to say the least. We sat down and the waitress gave us a menu as well as chips and salsa. The looked at the menu and ate the chips and salsa. Very good! The chips tasted home made and the salsa had good flavor. We both ordered the Burrito Loco. It had 3 meats and was big enough to choke a horse! It was very good. I could only eat about half of it. I took the rest to go. I will definitely go back! This place was awesome! The service was fast and very friendly. The food was very authentic and the fajitas are te best I've ever had. The burrito my husband got was huge! Even the kids size was still big! We had lots of leftovers to bring home and reheat!! Very nice sized portions. And they do have margaritas now and it definitely hit the spot. The price was good too. Stopped in this evening for dinner. Only two others in there. Ordered nachos and steak tacos. Food was so so and the waitress was pleasant but service wasn't that great. Wanted a quick, inexpensive dinner. At least it was quick. I ordered the chicken tostado and got three mini tostadas (one complete with a bone!). Flavorless just like the chips and salsa. The amount of chips and salsa given was paltry also! Husband had chicken chimichanga, chorizo taco and pork tostada combination plate. Chimichanga was disappointing, taco was ok and pork tostada was less than ok. My blended margarita was weak but my husband said his margarita on the rocks was fine. Guacamole was mostly onions. Went here for dinner on a whim one evening. The place is small, nothing fancy, but pleasant. We were seated immediately and served warm chips with red and green salsas. Negro Modelo on the beer list was a nice surprise. The guacamole was fresh, full of onions and cilantro, and absolutely delicious. The dinner menu is not extensive, but neither of us had any trouble making a selection. Had the trio of tacos - one beef, one, chicken, one chorizo - Mexican style (with cilantro and lime). We visited here twice for take out burriters and both times they were top notch. Big, stuffed with slow roasted pulled chicken and seasoned to perfection. I definetly agree with stacy, I had the enchiladas also, no flavor whatsoever. I was there when they first opened, maybe it has gotten better, but it had shredded cheese, not mexican cheese. Granted, this is a small, rural town, so the competition in Mexican cooking is quite weak. That being said, the food here is surprisingly good. Tacos were very tasty (chorizo, chicken and pork were our favorites). Prices are incredibly affordable. Stick to the basics, and you can't go wrong. This isn't Milwaukee, so set your expectations accordingly. In response to the prior review which commented on lack of liquor license, my understanding is that they are expensive and hard to come by in Burlington. For such a small establishment, it might not make financial sense for them being so new. Final words: my husband and I often opt for El Burito Loco over the other "ethnic" restaurants in the area. read more

lets start with customer service...oh wait, there is none. when an english speaking person finally does arrive to work, they are far from polite, courteous, and knowledgeable of their own menu. wait time is underexaggerated. after ordering a large order we went to pick it up, we were told it would be an additional half hour. and the not-so-friendly clerk announced to anyone else ordering that everything else was going to be slow due to our large order and that it was our fault. on their menu they do not all state what is going on the product, disappointing those who do not like sour cream. mediocre at best. i struggle giving them 2 stars. read more
