A gem in the non touristic neighborhood!…read more On my last day during a 3 week vacation to Spain, found this splendid restaurant near my hotel. After a day trip to Toledo, I was super tired and decided to have my dinner nearby. Turn out everything I experienced that night surprised me, from the atmosphere, service to their food. Their croquettes are so delicately made, even the amuse bouche (invitacion aperitivo) are excellent. I told the waitress who speaks English that I was super tired , could not drink and would like to try more dishes. She suggested their Cana but on the lighter side. She also recommended cutting my portion into 1/4 or half size so that I could try more dishes. Her attentive service merited 10 stars. In addition to the chorizo croquettes, my other dishes were cuttlefish risotto and callos, both turned out to be exceeding my expectation! And the 1/2 portion were actually quite huge!!! It was my last night in Spain, and Canadio did offered me an unforgettable dinning experience. Planning to come back in the Fall, and will absolutely visit them again!

This is a tough feat if you live in Amsterdam (where we do) but luckily in Madrid people dine late and on Sundays :) We did a quick search on yelp and found La Cajita de Nori in walking distance from where we were staying and with good reviews. They did not disappoint! Service was quick and friendly. We ordered a small tortilla, which was light, fluffy and fresh. One of the best I've ever had. We had one of their specials, a marinated eggplant salad with wonderful feta cheese. I don't know what they did but the eggplant was so tasty. Delicious. We also had a rice/egg dish. A portion of right with two fried eggs with deliciously runny yolks plus a delicious pepper/tomato topping. The topping was fresh and so tasty. This is really Spanish comfort food. On the menu are also a nice selection of options with beef and pork, etc. We had two glasses of wine. For dessert we opted for the tart queso, which is like a super dense, rich cheese cake with this thick syrup. It was rich and amazing...you need to share with two people, it would have been too much otherwise. The decor is cute and funky, colorful and fun. The music was fun with Jimi Hendrix to some others. We were the only people dining at the time, so I wish it was more busy when we were there. But this was a great way to start our Spanish adventure.
