Pig's feet tostados
Amy K.

Great service, not sure about the hostess. But once you pass by that lady, the service was great. Food is good. Pretty authentic Mexican dish with pig's feet and cow's tongue. I had lamb tacos and pig's feet tostada. They gave us lemonade or limeade when I just wanted plain aqua.

Excellent mole taco. We were on a culinary tour through CDMX and stopped at El Bajío, this place was great. The standout for me was the mole taco, which was excellent: rich, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. Service was solid and efficient, especially considering we had a fairly large group. They were accommodating and kept things moving without feeling rushed. Definitely a worthwhile stop if you're exploring classic Mexican flavors in Mexico City. The place was clean and very well laid out.

First night in Mexico City. This was recommended by our hotel. Food was classic Mexican with the local mole and salsa. Our waiter could not have been nicer. He was practicing his English while we mashed our Spanish yet we managed to find laugher. Colorful decor and festive decor gave the restaurant a friendly vibe.

A CDMX classic in the Polanco neighborhood. The food is excellent and it is packed with locals, business people and tourists alike. Definitely a terrific spot for lunch.

This place was my stop 2 of 7 places on my Polanco walking food tour. I had a cup of Mexican coffee and chicken mole. The Mexican coffee had some unique taste to it and the chicken mole was pretty good. Both were something that I don't think I will reorder in the future, but glad I tried it.

This was stop 2 of 7 on my Polanco walking tour. Got to try their special coffee and the mole. What a combo. First of all, they're missing the biggest business opportunity by not exporting that coffee of theirs. There's something special about it. The whole table on our side loved it so much I wanted to ask for seconds. The mole we were served was otherworldly. It was so so good. I would have definitely eaten more had they given us extra. I walked out of here energized for location 3

Delicious food and helpful staff. Very bright and welcoming place. We had pork, lamb, and crab tacos and thoroughly enjoyed them. Guacamole was amazing too!

Beef tongue

Came here for lunch. We got the beef tongue, octopus tostadas, and 2 tacos (lamb and pork). My faves were the lamb taco (tender and strong lamb flavor) and the octopus tostadas (octopus pieces were pretty large and tender). The beef tongue had a different/softer texture than what I was used to, but was pretty good. The pork taco was pretty dry.

Amazing place, excellent service, great food, wonderful atmosphere, and beautiful decor. Celebrated a 93rd birthday here today and the waiters were very attentive taking care of everything. Started with appetizers of crispy tortillas and pork skins, guacamole and great hot sauces. We then had little baby taco like apps of cochinita pibil and chicken with potatoes. Awesomeness all around. Great desserts and plenty of tequila and wine flowing around. Lemonade was fresh, nice and tart. Definitely coming back for other menu items.

Beef Tongue taco with cilantro and onions

Delicious meal in a nice atmosphere. The restaurant itself is large and bright with nice artworks on the walls. Our meal was really good. We ordered the marinated skirt steak, side of mole, zucchini flower taco, beef tongue taco and a salad with mixed native vegetables. I can honestly recommend ALL of those dishes. The mole taste smokey with chocolate hints - delicious! The service is fast and efficient. We also loved the reasonable prices and nice portion sizes.

Service was great, food was magnificent and the weather was delightful! This is in must visit when in Mexico City, Polanco neighborhood.

El Bajio is a great neighborhood restaurant. There were local couples, a birthday celebration, and travellers all dining there. There was plenty of room between tables to maintain social distancing. I am not a spanish speaker and they did everything possible to make sure I had a nice meal. I would have just had one side but I think they wanted to make sure I ate what I enjoyed and put a little of everything on my plate. The steak was tender and perfectly grilled. I will be coming back repeatedly to El Bajio.

Went to Mexico City in March and visited el Bajio. Located on Polanco, it was highly recommended thanks to trusty Yelp! My friend and I were starving after a long day of travel so we ventured for chicken mole, carnitas, barbacoa, empanadas de platano maduro (omg! Genius!), guacamole (the best I have had in a long time. This needs to be packed and sold!). Once you get your protein it's all game. Grab a freshly made tortilla, add your carnitas or barbacoa, onions, cilantro, tomatillo or aji sauce, and dig in. Repeat as many times as your stomach will allow. Wash it all down with margaritas on the rocks. Just like the Dr recommends! El Bajio is awesome and can't be missed! Looking forward to returning next time in CDMX.

I wanted to make it a point to seek out some authentic oaxacan mole, so I chose this spot that was recommended by eater.com and the Michelin guide. Had the black mole with duck breast, which was served with rice and a plantain. It was so good as the flavors were so complex and they paired really well with the perfectly cooked duck, the rice, and my fruity cocktail. On that note, I ordered one of their speciality cocktails with passionfruit and it was so good. I actually enjoyed my cocktail, made with fresh fruit, here more than the world renowned bar down the street. Also got salsa made tableside and an appetizer of pork taquitos (which, in this context, were tiny tacos). Both were flavor bombs. Overall, we are glad that we stopped by to get a sampling of very flavorful food from this restaurant and I'd definitely come back!

They had table side salsa which was nice to watch and then try. We tried a few of the appetizers and non alcoholic drinks. I will say the service was impeccable, they checked on us often and even found a charger so we could charge our phones! Very great hospitality and service.

Good Ambience Food is just ok…read more We visited this restaurant for breakfast, and while the ambiance is undeniably beautiful, the overall dining experience was mixed. The space itself is lovely -- a well-designed hall with elegantly set tables, fresh flowers, and a charming courtyard with greenery that adds to the atmosphere. It feels upscale and calm, and when we visited, it was not crowded, which made it even more peaceful. However, the service and food did not quite match the setting. The staff were not particularly welcoming, and communication was a bit challenging as most did not speak much English. While manageable, it did affect the overall experience. They began with a bread basket (bread and croissants), which unfortunately did not feel fresh or warm -- something you would expect at a place with this level of presentation. We ordered a couple of dishes along with a fruit bowl: * The fruit lacked the freshness and ripeness you typically find in Mexico, even at casual local spots. * The main dishes were average in flavor -- nothing stood out, and they felt somewhat generic rather than reflective of local cuisine.

The interior is pretty plain, with some Oaxacan art on the walls, apparently available for purchase. We were served tortilla chips with samples of 3 moles (Negro, Coloradito and I think the 3rd was Mancha Manteles) and 2 salsas. As my wife and I primarily went to Barro Negro to sample moles, it was great that we could taste them before committing to a full entree. They were all very good and very different. If you think all moles are 'a Mexican chocolate sauce,' then you'll be surprised at the different varieties. The salsas were all very good and on the spicy side. For entree, I ordered the Mole Coloradito and my wife got the Mole Negro. Both were served with a chicken leg/thigh quarter covered in a very generous pool of mole, along with a small amount of rice and beans. For me, it was the right amount of mole (a lot!) and rice and beans (a small portion of each). The Coloradito is a sweeter mole, very smooth and rich. It was excellent. The Negro is smoky, almost burnt tasting. I happened to know that the cooking process includes burning chile seeds and adding them to the mixture. To me, it was kind of ashy and not to my taste. My wife said that she really liked it and the flavor mellows as you eat more. At any rate, if you're familiar with Mole Poblano, which is also very dark, the Oaxacan black mole is a totally different dish. As it was late, we chose not to get any dessert. The service was attentive and quick, not surprising given that the restaurant we empty. We enjoyed our food very much and highly recommend Barro Negro for sampling Oaxacan moles.

The torta is absolutely legendary. A fluffy bolillo roll drenched in juicy, slow-roasted pork, tangy pickled onions, and a salsa that comes in swinging with just the right heat. That salsa alone could clear your sins. It's spicy, vinegary, addictive. I was sweating and smiling like a maniac. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall in Polanco. Cash only, plastic stools, no fanfare. You order at the counter and eat fast because there's almost always a line of locals and tourists in the know. And they serve one thing: cochinita. You can get it in taco form, on a panucho, or in the god-tier torta. Honestly, get all three and thank yourself later. The meat is fall-apart tender and deeply marinated, full of citrus and achiote. The panucho, with that crispy bean-stuffed tortilla base, is underrated perfection. Everything is messy, hot, and dripping with flavor in the best way. El Turix is the kind of place that reminds you why street-style food is unmatched. No hype, no gimmicks, just absolute fire. A must every time I'm in the city.
