Located just inside the mall past the escalators on your left, this is a very nice restaurant with beautiful art and excellent food. I loved the beef milanesa and my husband enjoyed the chicken enchiladas verde. The sparkling lemonade was great. I wish I had sat upstairs where it's more quiet and intimate, where I could see the art better, but I didn't see it until after we were seated. The service was good and attentive. My wife and I started out with cafe Americano, along with two concha pastries. The coffee tasted pretty typical and so did the conchas which I have had several times before. Our Server was great and he spoke pretty good English which made things easier for us. I ordered the huevos ala Mexicana breakfast meal and it was a good portion with refried beans on the side. We were in town with some of my son's soccer team for an exhibition against America's academy team. We came here to eat on the first day. It was about 25-30 of us including 15 children. They sat us down and right away started offering hot chocolate and sweet bread to the kids. The kids thought it was free so they just started agreeing to what was being offered. We then ordered our food. I got the enchilada plate and the red sauce on it was salty. My husband got their "signature" plate called 'Huevos Bajío' or something like that. I'm a believer of you eat with your eyes first. It was some green sauce topped with some type of meat and an undercooked egg. The egg white was still clear. Two others in our party ordered the same thing and the look on their face when they got their food said it all. Everyone else complained their food lacked flavor or was salty. When it came time to pay our bill was pretty high. They charged us an extra $1500 pesos for the service and the waiter still expected a tip. Now, I don't mind paying for good food but in my opinion, the food was not good and we all felt like it was a waste. read more

From the complimenrary whipped (at the table) hot chocolate and pan dulce (lightest, flakiest croisants this side of Paris), to the zuchinni flower omlette and the delicious pork rib meat entree, everything was perfectly seasoned. The refried beans are the best I have ever had. Then the chocolate gorditas made a perfect compliment as desert to a second serving of the hot chocolate. El Bajío is a great space, both elegant and spacious and bright, fun, yet not too noisy. The menu of drinks is incredible and we imbibed on quite a variety. The pina coladas are to die for, by the way. Our group consisted of vegetarians and meat eaters and everyone had plenty of solid choices. All of the food was highly enjoyed by all in the group. I ordered an egg white omelette with flor de calabaza and cheese and despite the small amount of chile in there (not a fan of chile), it was still good and the food was enough to fill me up. The place is decorated very nicely as well as colorful, the food presentation was definitely a 5/5 and the bathrooms were squeaky clean.
