Food was delicious. The pupusa was fresh and was crispy where the cheese leaked out. Beans and rice were perfectly cooked and flavorful. Salvadoran tamale was something new to me. I can't stay I liked it but I'm glad I tried it. It had a decent amount of filling. I'd go back for the pupusas. Service was super nice! No complaints. Ambiance was ok. Clean and homey. I go here exclusively for the breakfast burritos, but don't limit yourself, they have a huge menu. Mexican style breakfast burritos are by far my favorite and this place has their recipe DOWN! I always get the supreme to enjoy all the meat choices. My only gripe is occasionally there must be a different cook and the potato ratio will be off and leave it a little dry. I'm also not a huge fan of their salsas compared to other places. You can stop at the market right across the street for better salsa. read more

Other than the flea market, I believe this is the only Mex joint in the TC that do Pupusas (a guilty pleasure of mine). Their's were outstanding. Wow. I can't believe this place is still here! This was the last place I ate before I went off to catch the bus to Spokane to catch the plane to bootcamp...in 1989. We just come here for the Salvadoran Pupusas.. other things on menu are also delicious. They have everything from mexican food to a couple items of salvadorian food and seafood options like cocktails and fried fish dishes. Foods good. My con is only the interior decor. Makes the place look like its questionable if you haven't ate here before. The tables are wobbly and feel like they might collapse. A change in table look they are herindious. Cashier has zero personality and makes you feel like its a bother for them to get your order down. Customer service definitely needs a upgrade. read more

Food is fantastic. And they are open super early, so you get your breakfast or lunch quickly. They have a drive through. I get my lunch here twice a week and they never disappoint. I loved the fact that there was a drive thru at this restaurant and the wait wasn't terrible either. What I found a bit frustrating was I paid for my food, no receipt, they gave me my pupusas and when I asked for my drink they told me, "oh, we didn't charge you for it" I essentially had 2 items, the pupusas and drink, how complicated is that? The food smelled amazing, but I was thoroughly disappointed with the taste of the pupusas revueltas. The dough, was tough and not flavorful at all, and the filling was not good, and not evenly spread; the cheese tasted very plasticky and rubbery. All in all, not a great experience. That being said, I haven't tried the rest of their food, but after this experience I don't think I will. read more

I woke up hungry, contemplating what I would have for lunch. I had groceries but I felt like this lunch was much more important. Much like Santiago from Coelho's The Alchemist I was to embark on a journey to find a treasure. That treasure (pupusas) which I though bring much joy to me brought nothing but sorrow and despair. I drove from Walla Walla just for this. I arrived and ordered two tacos and three pupusas. Elated I received my first Taco within minutes. I then waited 25 minutes in anguish and got nothing more. I went up to the counter and she hurriedly got me two more pupusas. They were room temperature. Saddened, I waited another ten minutes and went up to the counter to ask for my money back. As I was walking up someone was bring out the other taco. Never apologetic. I asked for my money back. She offered to give me back the money of the one pupusa that was left but not the taco. I informed her that I had already waited 45 minutes. For that taco and didn't want it. In the end I waited 45 minutes. Got two cold pupusas which I overheard had been sitting in the back wrapped in foil. Got one good taco. They were never apologetic. Talk about a ruined day off. I understand that mistakes happen but be nice and apologize once. We were patient. I have had this happen before. I don't care much about them comping my meal but geez guys. Maybe I should have been like Santiago and just stayed put. Gave it three stars for all the other times I had a great experience. But jeezus guys. read more

Glad I finally made it to El Amanecer for desayuno (aka breakfast). I really need to hone my Spanish, cuz when I walk in here, there's always that awkward few seconds when I try to figure out how to ask for what I'd like. It matters not though, every time I've come the guy I always talk to always hooks me up with something excellent---even if only a few English words are spoken. It looks like they have several breakfast plates. I know what huevos are and I know what chorizo is, so I went with the huevos rancheros plate; it came with beans (with white cheese) & rice. I didn't know what to drink, so the server-guy gave me a sample of a melon drink. I'm not a melon person, but I gave it a try. It was fairly decent. This place continues to impress. read more

My friend and I came here for the tacos, but left absolutely head over heels in love with the fried plantains. Good gracious, they were delicious. Slender halves of banana's cousin are presented with the perfect caramelization...though they really don't need any topping, the sweet condensed milk sauce doesn't hurt the situation. A basic working knowledge of Spanish will be extremely helpful in ordering from the diverse menu including tacos, tortas, flautas, mole, breakfast, and much more. Tacos are presented simply dressed with a bit of shredded cabbage and a slice of radish, lime wedges on the side. I didn't see a bar with other topping choices, but bottles of green and red salsa were brought to our table. El Amanecer's chicken is moist and delicious, whereas the pork was a bit drier than I would have liked. Lengua (that would be tongue) is tender and very good. read more

A Salvadorian friend suggested this place for the pupusas. I had the pork and cheese and they did not disappoint. Really great crunchy texture and flavorful filling. Clean tables. Well stocked salsa bar. I will be bringing my friends here. Down side was that it is an old building and I ate off a cracked plastic plate. Really didn't feel dirty, though. First of all, they're open 24/7. That alone makes me happy because I'm a night owl and usually crave tacos. I came at 9:30pm, which isn't super late compared to normal, but you have to understand that stuff closes really early around here. Next, the food was delicious! I'm so mad that I didn't order horchata, but I'll get some next time. I got the asada torta, and the bread was thick enough to be a torta, but not so think that I needed to pour a crap ton of hot sauce on it for moisture. Instead, I added hot sauce for flavor, and not too much. The asada was delicious and abundant. I personally prefer cojita cheese on torta's so I was sad that they didn't put any on there, but that's just my preference not a requirement by any means. Also, I didn't ask, so it cannot be held against them whatsoever. The hot sauce mentioned above was really good too. There wasn't anything unique about the basic green and red sauce - they were general, run-of-the-mill flavors - but they were both very flavorful *and* very hot. The chunkier, red sauce (with seeds) was also delicious, but fell outside of my personal heat tolerance. To be fair, anything hotter than Tabasco or sriracha is too hot for me (and again, it had pepper seeds). Additionally, the employees were incredibly kind and patient. I do not speak Spanish (I know enough to order off a menu) and I didn't feel like they were laughing at me. I was just another non-Spanish speaking person ordering food. The woman who took my order was quick and kind (like I said above). They bring the food to your table if you eat in, and call your name if you take it to go. The restaurant was clean aside from a few messes left by some customers, but they were quickly tended to. The employees kept the trash empty, the floors swept, and the tables clean. I wasn't sure whether or not to take my plate to the front or to leave them on the table, so I left it on the shelf of one of the trash receptacles. Summary: Food - Delicious and worth every cent (which was affordable). Atmosphere - Clean, kind, friendly. Will I return? - Absolutely. read more

You've heard the saying, "Don't drink the water." Well, in a ways this place can relate. Dined in with a couple friends, had the three tacos with the rice and beans on the side. Food looked appealing, but the tacos came along with an avocado sauce that made us all sick. If it wasn't that sauce it was the self serve hot sauces. On top of leaving a generous tip, both myself and a friend said thank you to the lady behind the register as we were leaving AND she just looked at us like dumbasses. Didn't say anything. Being Mexican, I know she understood, "Gracias!" Some guy walked in asked for a burrito...wasn't helped and so left. I had to direct to the guy where to order, but the same rude waitress didn't make an effort to assist him. She kept her distance. Overall taste, 3 out of 5. Atmosphere, 3 of 5. Hospitality, 0 of 5. I did it. Packed my child up and drove to El Amanecer for some pupusas. I got there and there were simply picture on the wall. Um... didn't want a full-on meal, just a pupusa for me, a pupusa for baby bug (okay, she's five now) and some fried bananas. Yum! YAY for PAPUSAS!!! I'm sooo happy!!! I have a friend who sometimes gives me these...but now that I have found a local spot for them...I won't be crazily craving them. This place was clean, extremely nice, and of course...YUMMY!!! I was at one of my favorite Taco trucks Nueva Esperanza one day and saw all of these cars at a new Restaurant in the Parking lot next door. There was a huge wait at my taco truck so I walked to Amanecer next door. It is a Salvadorian Joint with Mexican staples too. I ordered some Pupusas. They were so good Ive been back like 5 times since. Try the queso and Chiccaron shredded pork or the bean and cheese mi favorita or queso and calabasa squash. On my second visit I had a Salvadorian Tamale wrapped in banana leaves with carrots potatoes and chicken the size of 3 normal tamales for a dollar fifty unbelievable. It was a meal in its self.They also have agua frescas to die for. Make sure to visit on Sat and Sunday for their homemade caldos. read more

You can get tacos many places but here is the place for Salvadorian food. This was a first time for us, the pupusas were incredible, stuffed with cheese and pork, served with a cabbage salad and doused with some hot sauce. We also went with a bowl of beef sopas, where the beef fell off the bone and just about melted in your mouth. Even though it was lunch, it's never too late for breakfast food so we opted for a plate of huevos rancheros, picking it up with the thick house made white corn tortillas. Last but not least was one of my favorite, fried plantains with a dollop of sour cream; the first time I had tried it like this but the sour did a nice job of contrast with the sweet of the plantain. read more

Never been to this place firs time today Sunday 2pm about two people in the restaurant decided to try 3 popusas got a drink and a pice of flan to eat while I waited. Ok so people started to come in the restaurant it got full quick all this people got their food first and iam still waiting. Went to the counter and told the ladies if they forgot about my food they looked at me like I was crazy and told me to wait. 35 min later I went back again and this time the lady on the counter told me if I wanted the food or not and to wait. 45 min later I got up went to the counter and asked for my money back right away they brought the 3 popusas out. Too late I was starving mad I got my money back and and asked for the owner the ladies don't know who the owner is and when they are there. so sad didn't get to taste famous popusas. read more

We chose El Amanecer because the parking lot was packed! We were just passing through Pasco and had no idea what we would find. So pleasantly surprised! Neither of us had ever had El Salvadoran food before. But remembering an old episode of some food show where Mary Sue Milliken raved about pupusas, we ordered two of them, one with loroco and cheese, one with chicharron, both with the curtido cabbage slaw. We also got a HUGE burrito and the best horchata we've ever had. Not too sweet with REAL cinnamon - a big change from what you can get even at the best local Mexican restaurants where we're from. I have a feeling you might up your credibility by speaking Spanish with the staff, but they were as pleasant as can be to a couple of hungry gringos! I was really excited to eat some Salvadoran food again, but this place was just not that good. The pupusas were okay, but too cheesy (and I love cheese), kind of like little grease bombs. The tamale was wrapped in a big banana leaf (yay!) but then wrapped in plastic wrap and microwaved and served in the plastic (unnecessary and ewww!). Three days ago our family wanted to get together at a local restaurant. I had read postitive reviews about the Salvadoran food at El Amanecer so I suggested we try it. What a mistake. I hated every Salvadoran item I tried. So did my wife and those kids that tried them. Most of the family ordered Mexican items and were happy with the food. The Salvadoran tomalis were large masa rolls with a tiny bit of filling. I had difficulty choaking down all that masa. The papusas turned out to be two thick layers of masa withcheese and a bit of meat or vegi in between and then fried. Again way more masa that I could take. The mexican items were very well prepaired and generous, so I give it three stars for that. read more
