What a great meal! This was the first time that our family…read moreenjoyed Georgian food, and we really loved it. We found this restaurant through the yelp reviews, and, as usual, the yelp wisdom of crowds was correct. The meal was absolutely delicious. Sorry, I can't remember the Georgian names of the dishes but the eggplant rolls filled with walnut paste, the bread with melted cheese and egg yolk and the lamb and potato stew were all great choices. The food tasted home-made, as if a grandmother had cooked for us with love in every bite. Lots of garlic - we love that. Washed down with a glass or dry red Georgian wine, a perfect pairing. We were fully satisfied with our main dishes so were not able to try dessert. Next time. The atmosphere was nice - tablecloths on the table, friendly service, not noisy. We will definitely come back next time we are in the Evanston area.

We didn't love the pkhlovana version as much, but it was still very good (just a lot of onion flavor when we ordered). While super basic, their fried potatoes are insanely good. I'd also recommend any stew on the menu. They have a great selection of Georgian wines as well, which I highly recommend. For those who don't drink alcohol, they offer a wide variety of compotes as well. The decor/ambiance is very Eastern European. There is a coat check at the entrance which is very handy. Service is very friendly, but they have seemed understaffed the times we've gone. It did take some time to get the waitress' attention, but it also seemed that she was the only one taking orders from several tables. Definitely a slower service, but it's good for large groups to talk over a great meal.

I don't know how they do it, but their Concha special was delicious, as was their cookie butter and banana. If you can't eat a lot of sweet food, steal a bite or two off a friend's plate. We couldn't finish in one sitting. Go early to avoid the crowds, and make sure you make a reservation so you aren't left standing outside watching everyone else eat the French toast

I would highly suggest reservations as this place was packed and we were there around 10:30AM. It's a very festive establishment with an extensive menu and they welcome you with a bowl of candy to pick from and mini cheesecake bites. If you have a sweet tooth like me, this place is a dream come true. They have so many options of sweet and savory items. We went with the French toast flight that included a Churro, Tres Leches and Creme Brulee French Toast. We also ordered a Cookie Butter one and they were HUGE! For our entree we got a Stuffed Cajune cheesesteak biscuit and again, it was HUGE! But honestly, it sounded better than it was. It had potential but needed more sauce. There was just too much hash brown and veggies and not enough meat and sauce. My friends ordered lattes and one said hers wasn't sweet enough and the other liked her cookie butter one. Overall I definitely see why this place is highly suggested so I would definitely come back again but would try a different entree.

While in Skokie, I decided to give Herm's a try. I've tried Poochie's and loved it, but hey, a new…read moreplace. First thing, I was disappointed they had no hot dog special, you know, like 2 hot dogs, fries and a drink for x dollars. It was all a la cart. And one hot dog was $5.05, fries not included. I decided to get the Herm's special, which is supposed to be a 1/2 lb. Cheeseburger with fries and a drink. It was $18.55 so i figured it was going to be on par with Five Guys, which charges around $21 but you get a ton of fries and a really good burger. Ok, I'm waiting for my dinner. Here's where it goes off the rails... While I'm sitting, waiting for my food, the guy is making a hot dog for another customer. He's holding the bun in his left hand (no gloves), while applying the condiments. After he's done, he takes money from the customer with the same hand, and proceeds to make another hot dog, with the same unwashed hand. That's a major red flag. My burger arrived shortly after that. The burger? Good but undersized for the price. The fries were thin and average at best. Small portion for the price. I had to use the bathroom downstairs, and it was out of soap. Another red flag there. Look, Poochie's is better, cheaper, cleaner, and right down the road. Sorry, but I was disappointed with Herm's.
