So I came back! This time, I decided to try some of their sides... because it is morning... and I…read moredidn't feel like having a simple breakfast sandwhich from my job. So... aside from getting an iced latte with a pump of mocha syrup, I decided to try their potato hash and a side of bacon. Both were delicious. The bacon wasn't cooked hard so I don't know if that is a deal breaker for you guys but I like mine with a decent chew and not all crunch. The potatoes were cooked with bell pepper and it was so good to me. The bell peppers weren't undercooked and everything had a good balance. My only take away was that I started to feel like it became greasy once I made it to the last few scoops, but thankfully, it wasn't like it was swimming in oil/grease. I also took note that despite it being a decent line, they were functioning fluidly so I really didn't feel like my wait was long at all. Gotta love sufficient service. I believe I spoke on the decor before, but if I haven't, the place is very quaint with outdoor seating. It gives off a local bakery with a hint of modern. Another thing I like is that you can see them prepping some of the baked goods as you wait.

A Great Bagel Shop With Pastries Worth the Detour!…read more We stopped by this bagel shop after a nearby coffee shop told us, "You have to try their pastries," and honestly, that recommendation was spot‑on. Even though the place is known for its bagels, the pastries ended up stealing the show. Everything we tried was fresh, flaky, and full of flavor -- the kind of treats that make you instantly glad you listened to a local tip. Once we saw the pastry case, my kids and I didn't even pretend to show restraint. We grabbed almost all of them so we could enjoy a full tasting session on our road trip home, and it turned out to be the best decision! Each pastry had its own personality -- some buttery, some fruity, some rich -- and not a single one disappointed. It made the drive feel like a little dessert adventure. It was truly hard to choose a favorite. The shop itself had a relaxed, welcoming vibe, and the staff was friendly and quick to help. Even though we didn't focus on the bagels this time, the overall experience made it clear why people love stopping here. If you're in the area -- or even passing through -- definitely check out their pastries. Pair it with a coffee from the shop nearby, load up a box for the road, and you've got yourself a perfect travel treat lineup!

We love red velvet donuts, and we tried all three varieties that they had. The one with cream cheese on top was absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the frosted donut holes, both the strawberry and chocolate, as well as their lemon glazed doughnut. It was cute that they threw in a few donut holes to fill the boxes where they could. The chocolate muffin, apple fritter, and cinnamon roll (butter roll) were quite good as well. The kolaches were delicious. We loved that they had a sweet Hawaiian bread wrapping the sausages. This place was a crowd pleaser from the adults to the kids. On the last day we were there, the staff said "see you tomorrow" and unfortunately, we had to say that we were leaving town. But, we'll definitely be back when we visit Memphis again.

When I walked in, the store appeared clean for the most part, and everything looked fresh. I ordered a kolache first and then decided to get a red velvet donut because it looked so good. However, before the employee could put the donut in the bag, I noticed a large horsefly flying around inside the display case, landing and flying around the donuts. I was instantly disgusted and reacted immediately. The employee seemed to acknowledge it, but her reaction felt more performative than genuinely concerned. It didn't seem to faze her, even as another customer who had already ordered coffee was also watching what was happening. I understand that bakeries and donut shops with open display cases can occasionally have issues with insects, and I'm not saying people shouldn't visit this business. Everyone can make their own decision. But personally, once I saw a horsefly flying around food that was about to be served to me, I couldn't bring myself to knowingly eat it. What surprised me even more was that after seeing my reaction, the employee still asked if I wanted the kolache. At that point, I had completely lost my appetite and simply walked out. I was genuinely looking forward to trying Midtown Donuts, and it's disappointing that my first experience ended this way. Unfortunately, because of what I witnessed, I won't be returning.
