I am a NYC bagel snob. I ordered a toasted sesame bagel. It was 10:30a and the volume at the shop suggested to me that the bagels may have been out for a while. When I received the bagel it was not toasted. The bagel itself was very good and has potential. I will need to come early and re-evaluate. Holy cream cheese!!! I wanted to like this place. I LOVE gourmet bagels. So I was excited when I found out a bagel place was opening. However, I'm left disappointed after my visit. First off, the place is small. Don't expect to get a table during lunch. We managed to snag one fortunately, but it was dirty. There was all crumbs all over the floors. Not a big deal. There were so many options to choose from and the fact that it was busy and we were first timers, we felt rushed. The coffee was crap. You make your own iced coffee. For the price, I would have rather gone somewhere that does it for me and tastes better. On to our bagels which each consisted of almost a whole block of cream cheese. I mean, I like cream cheese, but this was a bit much! The bagels are also a thick dough too, not my favorite. I ordered the jalapeño cheese bagel. The jalapeños should have been roasted or something. The crunch was not great on it. Also, the more I ate, I realized the cheese was not baked into the bagel. So after eating some the cheese topping slid off. My husband got the Maple Bacon with apple pie cream cheese and he agreed the excessive cream cheese ruined it. One of my sons got the hot Cheeto bagel with plain cream cheese. Half of it tasted like regular Cheetos. The other half was a little more hot Cheetos tasting, but he said it wasn't hot at all and was disappointed. My other son got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch bagel and that was the worst out of all of ours. It was plain as heck. Did not taste like cinnamon and had ZERO crunch to it. Pitiful. Lastly, I have to address the prices. They are pretty ridiculous. You pay $4 for a bagel. Okay... then you pay extra for whatever bagel it is. Why not just charge a price for that bagel and be done with it?? But it doesn't stop there because flavored cream cheese is also extra. I'm surprised they didn't charge to toast it! (Which you have to request it toasted, I thought that was the norm and you request if you didn't want it toasted?) I can't really comment on the service. Someone too our order, someone else called our name when it was ready. Not much else. They weren't rude, but not very welcoming. Stopped in to Bagel Nook on my trip to Memphis for the Holidays! Thoroughly enjoyed the large variety and larger shop of The Bagel Nook. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. Overall the selection is very vast and makes it hard to choose. Settled on the Jalapeno Cheddar with Firecracker, Plain with Cool Ranch, and Blueberry with Sweet cream. Overall the customer service was great, you're able to sample flavors ahead of time. The bagels did come cold, unsure if I needed to ask to warm them up though. Flavors were pretty good on the firecracker and sweet cream cream cheese. The cool ranch I was not very fond of and did not end up eating much of that one. It tastes good by itself but on the bagel it didn't work. I would definitely visit again in the future if I'm ever around. read more

1 star and that's being nice. A $78 bill and the food was terrible. The menu had a grill cheese had 3 cheeses and it was a slice of velveeta cheese, nothing else. And why would you ask if you want it toasted if it says it in the name Grilled Cheese, grill it. The Ruben was even worse, dry and the menu again says it on rye, but they don't have rye, so you get the pumpernickle bagel and it was beyond chewy. Who ever ate a Philly sandwich on a bagel or white toast. This is just the pits! To much money for way less then exciting food that would make you want to go back for sure. P.S. I was excited to try this place but also dubious. The offerings seemed like it might enter into the land of ridiculous where everything is excess but nothing is great. However! My bagel was delicious! Yes, they have many over-the-top bagels and cream cheese/spreads. But you can also kick it old school and keep it simple. Yes, they do put a ridiculous amount of cream cheese on there. But you can scrape off the extra (like we did) and save it for future bagels (like we did). I got the onion bagel. Toasted...although I could barely tell it had been toasted. I topped it with the firecracker cream cheese. The bagel was big and thick and chewy and wonderful. The cream cheese was flavorful. Another person in our group got the chocolate chip bagel with birthday cake cream cheese. It looked fun and festive. The inside seating is adequate but not huge. The offerings were much more than I expected. They didn't just have bagels. They had donuts, muffins, coffee cakes, egg sandwiches. Honestly, the choices made it a little bit overwhelming. I have come to the Bagel Nook two times now. I wanted to give them a 3.5 stars but decided to give them 4! There are a lot of options you can choose from! It can feel overwhelming at times... I think the biggest thing coming here is to kinda know what you are wanting coming in! I tried one of their lunch sandwiches last time and didn't enjoy it as much as their classic breakfast sandwiches. I also would recommend asking for cream cheese on the side. They seem to put a lot of cream cheese on there! Now on my friend's sandwich they did have some red spice (we think hot Cheetos) on hers and it was spicy...maybe from not cleaning off the knife before cutting it? I do think that could be a issue for someone with dietary restrictions or allergies! It's also important to note they have additional charges for their specialty bagels on the top row! They didn't seem to tell us this when we were ordering and had to ask before we paid. The employees were ok! The lady taking our order seemed slightly annoyed but not directly rude...I think she just didn't want the line to get backed up! The restaurant has been packed every time I have come here! People seem to really like it! They have inside seating as well as a covered patio. The inside seats have always seemed to be full but the outside tables were empty when we went! The restaurant is new, so the outside of the building looks nice and it feels pretty clean too! Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich at The Bagel Nook. I've been wanting to come and try this place for a while. I'm glad I did! They have a really large selection of bagels and cream cheeses and flavored butters. You can eat in but there aren't that many tables / seats for eating in so we took it to go but to be fair we were already leaning towards taking it home anyway so.... They also have breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich selections. Honestly there was way more going on here than I expected. The location is cute, there's a nice seating area outside and the service was good. I ordered a bagel sandwich. The bagel tasted like it had been out for days and It stopped me from really enjoying what was inside of the sandwich. It was packed when I went literally only standing room, and there were way too many options for a first timer to decide what was best to order. We ordered this for online pickup. The bagel itself was great! The bagel was large, cut in half, and tasty. The staff weren't the friendliest, but it was quite busy so I get it. The store is pretty small. My main issues was price transparency (for lack of a better word.) Online, a meat, two egg, and cheese was a certain price. When you went to make your selections, every type of cheese cost extra. I went to the Bagel Nook for the 1st time at 7:30 am today. No crowd (yay!), however the young staff was low energy; didn't say hello when I walked in; bad vibe. Their energy made me not want to order. Think of how pleasant Starbucks employees are for example. That is the energy you want on a week day morning before you go into the office. So customer service was poor.. I ordered a plan bagel with strawberry cream cheese. TRASH! The creamcheese had no flavor. Didn't taste like strawberry and was not sweet. The bagel was soft though and I like the amount of cream cheese they put on the bagel. But, I couldn't eat it. Threw the entire bagel away... My husband and I went to this establishment and walked right back out after standing in line to order and watching the young man who was handling and toasting the bagels, touch his hair, scratch his face, pick or dust stuff off his clothes AND wipe his nose ALL WHILE WEARING GLOVES. Can't see myself coming back here. Ordered the avocado overload or whatever it's called. Somehow got no avocado when that's literally the name of the bagel. We go in to tell them they made the order incorrectly. They take the bagel, scrape off whatever was on it then put the avocado and lettuce on. Now that's against food safety standards. You're supposed to remake what you didn't make properly to begin with. Then when I asked them "did you remake it?" They look at me as though I'm crazy for asking them to make the order properly from scratch. So I look at the bagel after they give it back to me and now avocado is only on one side of the bagel. $5 worth of ingredients for $2 worth of labor and I spent $22 on ONE SINGLE bagel that they made completely incorrectly and piss poor customer service and overpriced slopped on sandwiches. ohhhh i am writing this very full after visiting the bagel nook with my life partner. this place has GREAT bagels. we (me and lp (lp stands for life partner)) love a good bagel and this place does them like nowhere else. there is a HUGE variety of bagels and cream cheeses ranging from pretty normal to completely out there. we got the meat egg and cheese sandwiches which were scrumptious and a variety of the cream cheeses to dip with. I have been disappointed that there are not really any real bagel places in the Memphis area. (Einstein Bros doesn't count!!). These bagels are good! They have a nice variety of what I would call traditional bagels, but they also have some interesting flavors, as well. They have a HUGE selection of flavored cream cheeses and butters, too. Got a "Too Good To Go" surprise bag from here. A giant bag of an assortment of delicious bagels. They have an awesome looking layout of house-made sweet and savory spreads. I was not leaving without getting my husband some strawberry cream cheese spread and my self a lox spread. Both were excellent. The restaurant space itself is bright, spacious dining area, and looks well merchandise without looking junky-clean, sunny, and spacious-a great environment in which to dine. This location is a little bit further out than I usually drive for a meal but it was on my way back from an errand so gave it a try. I will be making a special effort to go back to try several menu items. Hopefully will have the same lovely counter service as yesterday. But look, the tip thing is just getting ridonculous!
