In terms of academics, we are overjoyed with how much hands on learning he is doing in his own classroom and the specialty classes. Most days he comes home with marker, paint, and glue on his uniform -- a sure sign of a great day. The curriculum challenges and interests him and he's encouraged to use his imagination. The ratio of teachers to students is wonderful. When he needs help a teacher is available to guide him. But what really makes this school special is the people. From the moment you walk in you are met with smiling faces, a friendly greeting, the feeling you and your kid belongs. You can see that the teachers and the administrators are happy to be there and that feeling extends to the kids. To see my son skipping in and out of school is magical. The school becomes part of your child's and your community. There are lots of special days and activities to get the kids excited to be a part of something. If you are seeking a great education, a place your child will feel safe, and most importantly a place your child will be happy give this school a look.

Our family has been with Merryhill, now, for two years beginning with Mrs. Bailey in PreK (such an amazing teacher), Mrs. Zellis in TK (a wonderful teacher who created a family environment in her class while still building academic skills needed for kindergarten), and now with the lovely and strong academic classroom environment that Mrs. Toranzo and her colleague Mrs. Jordan have created this year. In addition the STEM teacher, Mrs. Anderson, and the Spanish teacher are excellent. Finally, Ms. Kimberlee is so welcoming and so supportive of all the parents each day. It's a great place and I highly recommend it.

In the beginning I thought it was my daughter's problem -- she just didn't want to leave me. But after talking with the headmaster, I suddenly realized: it wasn't my daughter's issue -- it was their teaching philosophy. 1. They believed my daughter couldn't control her emotions, and they expected her to -- but she's only three, her brain isn't developed for that yet. Expecting a three-year-old to "control her emotions" is like expecting a one-year-old to control her bladder -- it's a physiological development issue. And the headmaster should know that. 2. My daughter didn't know any English when we first enrolled her. Within four months she could understand all the teacher's instructions and even speak short sentences. Yet the headmaster still said she wasn't speaking "long sentences." As an early-childhood educator, she failed to recognize this progress in a child entering a completely foreign environment. 3.Once she cried so badly that the headmaster came over to comfort her, but my daughter refused to talk to the headmaster and threw herself into the arms of her teacher. The headmaster concluded that my daughter lacked the normal ability to communicate. But my daughter had only met the headmaster twice -- she was basically a stranger to her -- so when she was sobbing, she rejected the stranger and ran to the teacher she knew. To me, that is a completely normal reaction -- yet in the headmaster's eyes, it meant my daughter "couldn't communicate properly." 4.The headmaster claimed my daughter would cry loudly, scream, and stomp her feet in class. But from a very young age she never behaved that way; even in the first two months at Challenger she only cried quietly out of fear -- never screamed or stomped. Only after being moved to a different class and failing to adapt to the new teacher's methods did she show those intense reactions. She was using her own way to cry out for help -- yet the headmaster and teachers didn't see it. At home she also became moody and unreasonable. Because of what the headmaster said, we decided to withdraw her. We enrolled her in a new school, and I was worried she might not adapt -- new environment, new teachers, new friends. But after only a few scattered days of crying, she quickly grew to love school! In talks with her new teacher, I, as a parent, deeply felt the teacher's love for children, her understanding and acceptance. She treated my daughter like a child -- a real child. That's why my daughter was able to feel safe and confident so fast. Now she's been at the new school for three months, and every day she's very happy -- her English communication is no problem at all. This has only strengthened my conviction: my daughter was never the problem -- it was Challenger's teaching philosophy.

I can say without a doubt, that my wife and I believe Mountain View is the best private elementary school there is. It has that small town, small school feel, with advanced academics. The ratio of teacher to student is much lower than most schools. All the teachers and staff are amazing and engaged, and Mr. Schneider is an incredible principal. Everything they do just feels right and our little loves going to school everyday. They also have a multitude of festivals, choir events, clubs, and sports. It's amazing what they are able to provide with such a small campus. I can't say enough good things about Mountain View.

(She's in 8th grade now.) Class sizes are small and it is very much a community in that school. All the teachers know all the children and the children all know one another, regardless of grade. The religious foundation that my daughter received at Mountain View has helped to shape the person she is today, and I'm grateful for that. We love the ladies in the front office and my daughter was always crazy about Mr. Schneider, the principal. He takes the time to get to know each child. Every Monday he would ask Jenna if she had played softball over the weekend and how she did. In fact, he even surprised her when he showed up at one of her softball games. To say that it made her day is an understatement. While I don't think the education she received at Mountain View is better or worse than what she would have received anywhere else, the foundation she did receive shaped who she is. She is in a charter school today and is a National Junior Honor Society member, so clearly Mountain View did something right. I am glad my daughter attended Mountain View. Many of the teachers (current and former), teachers' aides and other staff still stay in touch via social media to see how Jenna is doing. Can't ask for better.

The first day she cried when I dropped her off (as is expected) and was still crying when I arrived to pick her up. That was disappointing but hopefully things would be better the next day.. The second day she cries again as I drop her off and she's crying, once again, as they are walking out from pickup. I see her fall down as she's being walked over to us (she was new to wearing the backpack for school and no assistance was being given to her). When she fell, rather than immediately help her, her teacher visibly sighed and shrugged before she slowly bent over to help her. I ask the teacher how she did and she said that she cried the whole time. She suggests that I enroll her in some sort of "group play" because she only wants to be with the two adults in the class. I remind her that it's only day 2 and this is new to her. I ask her if she ate her snacks and she said that she doesn't know. They don't watch them eating snacks. THEY DON'T WATCH 3 YEAR OLD CHILDREN EATING SNACKS. Finally, the last straw for me was she made some comment about her being nonverbal. I corrected her and told that she isn't nonverbal, she is shy initially but she talks when she's comfortable. I asked her if she's even looked at her IEP and she ignores me and pretends to talk to my daughter about how she tricked her into thinking she's nonverbal. This was day 2. I pulled her out of that school and enrolled her into a different school. The first day at that school, she cried as I dropped her off. An hour after dropoff, the teacher texted me a picture of my daughter happily playing in the classroom.

What I know for sure, is that he's eager to get up and out the door in the morning, and he always has a smile on his face when I pick him up at 3:15. That says it all. I know that he's safe, behind the guard gated, camera laden walls. He's fed well, with a kosher kitchen, hot meals, and fresh fruit available any time of the day. He is exposed to state-of-the-art technology in the incubator lab with 3-D printers, green screens, robotics, battle bot arena, computer lab, and more. The large indoor swimming pools are heated and utilized year round, starting as early as kindergarten in PE classes, and competitively starting in middle school. Other sports include tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, golf, baseball, wrestling, and cross country. (That's right, NO football!) The theater and music program is wonderful for kids that are interested in it, because there is less competition when it comes to getting parts, being that it is a smaller school. And now for education, he has homework almost every night which I think is great for reiterating what he's learned at school. He's a straight A&B student. I have access to all of his grades, homework assignments, and test scores through the Veracross website, so there are NO surprises at the end of the semester. Some of his absolute favorite teachers throughout the years have been Stacy Steele, Steven Paquin, Robin Oshins, Debby Levy, Jenn Nails, Christian Caramanica, and Liat Bodaker. I have heard people complain about the turnover rate, but it's because they do not give tenures at this school, which I believe helps keep the teachers on their toes, and allows the school to not hire them back if they are not a good fit.
