Oh my gosh - WHAT A FIND! This place has both wonderful, hearty food and a sweet, small-town diner atmosphere with friendly staff and a nostalgic rural ambiance. Janet, our lovely waitress, was attentive and so warm; it honestly reminded me of eating in my Aunt's kitchen as a child, when you knew you were getting a serving of kindness right alongside your eggs. The Cowboy Omelet Bowl was fantastic! The steak was cooked so it was still juicy, not chewy. The cheese was melted in layers between the requested "extra crispy" potatoes and perfectly blackened peppers with extra sprinkled on top of the super yummy breakfast gravy My fiancé had the Reuben and wasn't as impressed, but was more than happy to have the other half of my breakfast. We got exactly what we expected at Eggheads Diner. Good breakfast food in a diner atmosphere for a reasonable price. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. I met no resistance when I asked to add tomatoes to the home fries, which came out perfectly crispy. The home fries accompanied my ham and cheese omelette that was cooked well, but could have been a little cheesier. My wives Eggheads Benedict had two perfect, over easy eggs in their version of the classic brunch item. The white gravy on top was smooth and flavorful. The food was good and the diner atmosphere did not disappoint. The booth seat was ripped and the table display explained the local favorite, boiled fish. Several regulars came in while we ate and they were all were greeted warmly by the hostess as they helped themselves to a seat. I am sure we will go back. I need to go with more of an appetite next time, because several of the breakfast items sound like they could satisfy a very hungry waterman. read more

Our usual place was packed so we checked Yelp for another possibility. We now have a new "usual breakfast place!" We first came in on Fathers Day - having worked in this business - holidays can be crazy. Amber was at the helm and had it all under control - place was slammed. When my 4 egg omelette arrived it was piping hot, had grits and biscuit. Food was fantastic, service was the same. My husband had chipped beef over Texas toast - again, served hot and delicious. Returned again today (we are weekend visitors) and had the exact same experience 5-star. This restaurant is a 30 minute ride for us but so we'll worth it. Meh is about it.. large menu to choose from but to be honest I'd rather eat The Waffle House. Not from the area and once we moved and settled in gave it shot. Kitschy dusty decor aside....The waffles don't even taste good. How can you sell waffles that don't TASTE GOOD?? Waffles are so easy to make! The grits taste like they were soaked in dishwater. The waffles tasted like they don't have any milk or eggs in them at all, just water and cheap flour. The "chicken and waffles" is plated with non-name-brand frozen fried chicken strips. This review is for breakfast, which was pretty darned good. DH and I went for a Sunday morning breakfast. Good sized crowd so lots of local folks like this place for breakfast. Large menu with lots of choices, traditional and sweet stuff in case you like pancakes, waffles and such. Specials too. I ordered the two eggs with comes with your choice of breakfast meat (bacon), a carb (home fries) and bread (toast) for $6. All were cooked to order. I want to especially compliment the home fries which were crispy and delicious. The onions were perfectly carmelized, which added a lovely touch of sweetness. I did not want ketchup to ruin this! DH ordered the special omelette, which was the fried green tomato and swiss cheese. The FGT were diced and added to the omelette. They were able to keep the crispy crust and not get soggy once added. DH really enjoyed it. Our breakfast meals with beverages, tax and tip, was about $20. So that was a pretty good deal too! Thanks to Stacy for great service, too! read more

Visited Eggheads, for a NYD breakfast. We ordered steak and eggs, grits w/cheese and other fare (Coffee, OJ, Water). First the good: The drive over was scenic and nice, coming from the west side. Now the bad: I've dined at diners and dives all over the area, and Eggheads was not nearly on par with any reputable restaurant, IMO. The steaks were cheap...but, fatty. I'm def willing to pay for quality. The eggs were not great...and the grits were ice cold. Yes, I'm a hard Yelp grader, but, I also appreciate good effort. I see no effort at eggheads. Obviously, they have a captive local customer base and have no motivation to excel. No way I'd recommend Eggheads to someone I care about:) read more

Oh goodness, no. I was ready to walk straight back outside after waking into this place but my kids were hungry and we were there. What a DUMP. The carpet is worn, there's a certain smell to the place... ceiling has water stains everywhere. Bathroom is what did it for me. Just awful and disgusting. Decor is random. I ordered an omelette and it came back with packaged ham and cheese. Fake eggs. We ordered the small 'coin' pancakes for my daughter and they were the frozen pancakes you buy at the grocery store. The saving grace for this visit was our waitress. She was lovely. Really great. Helpful, happy and efficient. Unfortunately though, I can't give this place a higher rating than one star. This is our go to for Breakfast. The waitresses are very sweet and a variety of food. Sausage and cheese kiche is delicious.

Classic diner food. Interior is very dreary and kind of awkward- there's no music or anything playing. A very local spot for Sunday Church-goers. Waitress was super friendly and nice. The hostess- not so much. It took us awhile to get seated and she shoved us in the corner back by the emergency exit next to a bunch of boxes, overall just a very awkward experience. read more

I'm very sad that the corona shut the local restaurants down, it was understandable but I miss having fun with family and friends while drawing on a chicken with my sister. I must say this was our first restaurant that we tried when we just moved to Yorktown. I have to say they give great portion sizes and the food is absolutely delicious!!! My husband who loves oysters loved they served them for breakfast and he couldn't compliment them enough. I honestly couldn't finish my food, it was so good and too much for me to eat. I took it to go but the food didn't last long we finished it and couldn't wait to go back to visit. We loved the service! They were so sweet and definitely a warm welcoming when we just moved here. I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened. It has seemed that over the years the food quality has gone downhill. Early-on, the food quality was excellent. Home-style cooking, great meals especially breakfast. I have been back numerous times over the past few months for breakfast, and the food quality tastes like something from a commercially produced facility. I ordered Pancakes and was told they were made in-house. The pancakes tasted like they came from a pre-made pancake mix. Horrible. I sent them back. I asked for a large Waffle - which seemingly wasn't cooked all the way through. Not sure what's going on - but it needs to change. Now, previous times, I have ordered the Bacon omelette. I haven't had a single issue with those. The more bacon - the better ;-). Ideally - everything made from scratch would be perfect. But - that creates increased costs for everyone - and nobody likes that. The staff is very friendly and accommodating - so no complaints there. I will likely choose another establishment for breakfast in the future, however. I don't typically come here for lunch, so I do not have any input for the afternoon menu. read more

OK, I said I would stop by again to reevaluate the Diner and I'm really glad I did. I rate it at 4 1/2 stars. I must have just hit them at an off moment the first time I stopped in. We went this morning and tried some of the more regular diner fare and it was excellent. I ordered the Starvin' Marvin because it had a lot of different types of breakfast fare include. It had two pancakes, three eggs, two slices of bacon, two sausage links. grits, homefries, and a biscuit with sausage gravy--all for $9.99. Way too much to finish, but I had some of everything. I ordered the eggs sunny side up because they are harder to do than the other styles and they came out perfect, slightly brown on the bottom, with a slightly curled crusty edge and the whites were set nicely. The biscuit and gravy was very tasty and the biscuit was done well. The sausage gravy was a very good consistency. the homefries were soft and warm in the middle and had a nice crusty outside. Everything else was very good. But I have to say the best part was the customer service. Everyone was friendly and helpful and honestly made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. 5 stars for service!! I'm glad I was wrong about this restaurant in my first review. Our area needs a place like this and I hope the local clientele continues to grow and support it--I will. I guess the best indication of my opinion is that I bought two $20 gift certificates to give to friends so that they can try this place out. read more

So, i haven't been back to Eggheads yet but i have had some correspondence with the owner. She is so passionate about her restaurant that I bumped my review up one star. When Amber contacted me after my initial review, she was very concerned about the negatives I listed and truly wanted to improve. It's great to see a an owner who understands the importance of feedback. The restaurant has been open a year now and from what I can tell, it seems they have hit their groove. Next time i swing through the area, i will definitely be giving Eggheads another shot. read more

A diner that serves breakfast all day in Gloucester? Finally!! I would eat over easy eggs all day if I could and now that Eggheads has opened, there's nothing stopping me. I've only ever had the breakfast options but each time portions were huge and not 'diner' greasy. Friends of mine have tried and enjoyed the chicken&waffles, fried fish basket, and salads. I'm happily working my way through a breakfast punch card and enjoying every meal of it! If one thing has to be said about the service, I'd go with 'sporadic.' Eggheads is still a new restaurant and at this point it doesn't take many full tables to get your refill, side of toast, or take home container forgotten. Patience will help as this young restaurant inevitably experiences some growing pains. Still it's a reasonably priced, tasty option and worth a try (and try again) for anyone who hasn't yet been. read more

So the wife and I were driving around looking for a small hole in the wall diner type place for breakfast. We stumbled upon Eggheads Diner, thought it looked promising, and sat down for what we hoped would be a good meal. I may as well start with the bad. For starters, it took close to 30 minutes to get our food. That is unacceptable for an order consisting of eggs pancakes and french toast. I had time to sip and savor three cups of coffee before the food arrived. And when it arrived, both my wife and I's orders were wrong. Mine came with the wrong side, and her eggs were not the correct style (she ordered scrambled, received over easy...not a minor slip). My french toast was cold. Not surprising since it had likely sat for a while. Onto the good though. The food was phenomenal. The French Toast, despite the frigid temperature, was some of the best I've tasted. Imagine if it had been hot. Great pancakes, great home fries. The service is top rate, the overly friendly and familiar interactions one would expect from a country diner. I want to give this place 5 stars, but for now it'll have to settle for 3. Great service. Great food-once it gets to you. read more

We cross the bridge to eat here a few times a month- the service is dependable, friendly, and caring and the food is good. Burgers are some of the best menu items, but fresh beer battered rock fish is great too. Fried bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is my favorite. Great with accommodating kids. Another reviewer mentioned the atmosphere- it's a local joint that's not fancy and it works for them. Not my favorite breakfast ever... We were told to go here by some trusted friends but now I will question there restaurant taste. The food was good, the county ham to die for! But our plates come out wrong the first time. Or toast was forgotten the second time. And even though we tipped nicely they forgot to give us back our credit card. Kinda messes up a day out shopping... The one nice thing about all these mess ups was when I called to see if that's where our card was they told me that we had to show an ID to get it back. Good, they wouldn't just give it to some hoodlum. Bad, cause they close at 3 and we get off of work at 5. The food was ok, the service was kind of a pain. I doubt we will return read more
