I didn't want to start off this review negatively, but when I was promised a thousand blessings I…read moredamn well expected them. All I felt 933 of them and i feel cheated, as for the frozen part, the product was only part frozen. Another disappointment. I also did not appreciate the sheer amount of choice of flavour available in store. 6 choices? It sent my anxiety into overdrive and I felt on the verge of a panic attack. Why not just one flavour: plain, coupled with a daily rotating flavour of the week. And also just out of curiosity, why don't you sell/do pizza? There's clearly a gap in the market there

I was thrilled when Frozen took over a section of what was once an unreasonably enormous pharmacy to bring the tart goodness of fro yo to South Yarra. It's a familiar formula: choose a small, medium or large cup. Fill it with your favorite flavors (natural, coconut and chocolate are my picks), then load on your toppings from the self serve bar and pay by weight. These aren't just any toppings though. They rotate... a lot... which is obviously a clever ploy to keep customers coming back for more. It works. I fall for it. Because they're interesting: halva (halawa), banana bread, green tea and red bean mochi, passionfruit pearls, super ripe and fresh mango, kiwi and more, PB cups, toasted nuts, muesli, shredded coconut... You can be as virtuous or indulgent as you like, moving from the right side of the bar (fruit, nuts etc) to the left (sex, er, chocolate). You can taste any flavor you want before paying. ... See you there?

After all, their motto is " gelato eight days a week". They have a second location in Carlton. We dropped in on a late Tuesday evening (around 10:00pm) and the place was bumping. There's only four stools to sit inside at but another three tables outside. There's always a lineup but it moves fairly quickly. We waited and were able to time a lull that let us sample several flavours. There's 17 gelato (7 specials) and 6 sorbetti flavours. There's also the option of affogato ($7.00 AUD), gelato in brioches ($9.00 AUD), frappe ($8.00 AUD) and cakes made to order. Prices are pretty standard ($4.50 AUD for 1 scoop, $6.50 AUD for 2 and $7.50 AUD for 3). - 500 mL ($12.00 AUD) - a half tub always seems to be the best deal. The unfortunate thing at Pidapipò is that you can only choose two flavours. We ended up going with mint with white chocolate and blood plum. You get tiny chunks of white chocolate mixed with refreshing mint. Blood plum was just as good with bits and pieces of the plum skin mixed in. This is real deal gelato and sorbetti. The guys working here all were speaking Italian. Definitely worth a visit.

Organic coconut -- with its lovely bits of coconutty goodness -- and the terrifically tart original flavour are both top notch. I also enjoyed the chocolate, but skip the strawberry, it's flavour is fake. The only thing missing for me at Story In A Cup were mochi bits to top off my yoghurt. Luckily nuts and mini chocolate chips served as a fine substitute.

(Gee, that was a mouthful) Situated in quiet Yarra lane which is just off Darling Street, the new self-serve concept has yet to pick up but we're sure it will soon enough. How it works is you are the master of your own yoghurt cup experience. It's a clever system, I think because you decide how much yoghurt you want (perfect for small or very large eaters) and then you choose your toppings and everything is calculated by weight. This means, if you're in a huge yoghurt mood and you fill your bowl with yoghurt and toppings, you pay the price. Likewise, if you're just in the mood for a quick slither of a taste, you pay for the small portion. It's the perfect equation and one where you can never again blame the service staff for under or over portioning. My advice however is to try the flavours you're interested in before your swirl your cup under the yoghurt machine. Once you're set on your choice (you can choose as many flavours as you like), then you start the DIY part. We've been here on two occasions now and it's always empty because the apartments nearby are still quite vacant but we're sure once word gets round, this place will pack up so get in before everybody else.

YoBar served up fresh and frozen yoghurt in many ways, all their yoghurt is between 96% - 99.9% FAT FREE so you can enjoy a treat without feeling too guilty! Sign me up! The many flavours of yoghurt are served up with over 100 different toppings to choose from. Fresh fruit, nuts, lollies, biscuits and syrup are just some of the toppings you can combine to create your own unique and delicious taste sensation! Or you can keep it simple with just the yoghurt in flavours such as original, mango, green tea, apple and berry. I cant go past a classic fresh berry combination myself which reminds me of a sunny Saturday afternoon I spent on the High Line in New York and the yoghurt I got from a van before heading up- both amazing, sorry I digress. As well as yoghurts in all their glory you can get smoothies and crushes. Yo Bar claim to be the first and only yoghurt bar in Australia to offer 96%+ fresh and frozen yoghurt, I hope this changes soon, I believe too much frozen yoghurt is never enough!

The young employee greeted me with a smile and was very friendly. Unfortunately, the terrific customer service doesn't really make up for the rest of it. Served in a flimsy little plastic cup, my expensive gelato was bland and extremely unsatisfying. Obviously, it was gelato, it's hard to be disgusting. But was it worth the money? Most definitely not. Especially when you have all tons of different dessert options on Acland Street, I'd skip over Scoops. Sorry to the lovely woman who served me.

Try as they may, Southern California can't quite seem to get gelato right, and when they do, it's so expensive that settling for Frozen Yogurt becomes the only viable option. Want to know who does get gelato right? Australia, and Scoops is the only place where they dish up the authentic bit. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? While not much more than a counter, Scoops makes up for their simplistic approach with top class service. You're virtually free to try any and every flavor you wish, and you'll be served with a smile. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? If you haven't quite sorted it yet, Australia is expensive, especially if you're coming from America or the United Kingdom, and while the $6 I paid for my medium cup of gelato (pictured below) wasn't ridiculous, Scoops hits a stumbling block here due to the competition across the street: Seven Apples. While $6.00 at Scoops got me this: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=H_eKf47ZVwolk5gzKcB5Ew&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg $5.70 across the way at Seven Apples got me this: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=fqepdmuA25FDtKSnm5n4zA&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg And $6.10 at Trampoline got me this: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=QstsSKP6MfAtDlPh1H3p8w&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg That's quite a bit more bang for your buck across the way. No Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? While Scoops may have stumbled a bit when it comes to price, taste and authenticity should be an absolute point of pride. While offering only 16 flavors as opposed to 25 across the street at Seven Apples (Trampoline also offers roughly 16), Scoops gelato is fluffy, flavorful and very much akin to the heavenly gelato you find in Italy. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I could very easily eat quality and affordable gelato every day for the rest of my life, and I'd gladly do so at Scoops. Star Granted.
