I have visited the egg roll king twice and found it to be a poor dining experience both times. The food was overly cooked, greasy, and poor quality. The batter coated deep fried sweet and sour chicken was basically battered and deep fried chicken fat and skin - it was horrible. Do most people not chew or taste their food? Egg rolls were greasy and mushy. Chow mein was almost exclusively noodles and a sauce, with few vegetables and scanty meat. I had a terrible experience with egg roll king. I ordered 2 shrimp phos and and they gave me beef. I'm allergic to beef so if I didn't let my roommate try the pho first I would have had and allergic reaction and would have hade to go to the hospital after eating their pho. On top of that we went to get our new order and the employees were so rude and didn't even want to make us our correct order. Never going back to egg roll king again. I'd rather go to Vietnam bistro. Used to be a favorite, but ROACHES will change your mind. While in the longest drive thru line I've ever had here on Thursday, the restaurant started running food out to the waiting cars, while the car at the front window wasn't moving. One of the cars in front of us started eating since he was stuck. A moment later, he started yelling and threw his food out of his window. At that same time, a group of people who had just left the lobby with their food, started yelling and began walking up to the cars, telling everyone they found roaches in their food! One of the guys were yelling in at the side door about it, trying to get a refund, but the workers were ignoring him. When they made it to the guy who threw his food out of the window, they started talking loud enough and it turns out he had roaches too. Within the next 5 mins, we were all able to get out of the drive thru, and the parking lot was clearing out too. The two groups of people were still trying to get a refund when we left. The plate was not very big, and the food portion was average sized. You could definitely finish the plate and leave satisfied, but not entirely full. I came to this place because I really needed a good place to have Pho. The Lantern closed and everywhere else I tried is awful. I really wanted this place to be great. It was a whole in the wall and the service was not friendly, just like home. But I didn't. The service was slow. There was a good 10-15 minute wait for our food. We didn't get anything like chow mein, which I saw they make to order. Hence the three stars. People really do like the chow mein. So maybe next time I will try that. The phi broth did not have much flavor. I had to add hoisin sauce in to the bowl. Normally I just dip. The noodles were cooked real well. The meat was good, but the best part of pho is the broth. I ordered wontons for my kid. I was excited because the large was like 4.95 little did I know it only came with 4 wontons and though the wonton looked large it was mainly the wrap. The meat was tiny. So I was door dashing on a Tuesday evening when I got an order for egg roll king. I pull up to the drive thru where I waited 20 min for someone to even answer. I then go into the establishment where maybe 3 people are eating. I waited another 30 min and while I'm typing this I am still waiting for the food I was supposed to pick up 30 min ago. I will not be coming here ever again. From now on my business will be taken elsewhere and I will be making sure people know how bad this place is service wise. read more

Went to buy lunch to go. The lobby had both doors open because the smoke was so thick you could hardly breath. Only two others in restaurant waiting for food. The food tastes ok but the customer service is terrible. I've been here 4 times and 3 of the 4 times we experienced the worst customer service. The employees are not helpful and get really pissed off if you ask them a question. When I first placed my order which was for two different sides and an order of chowmein the guy taking my order said I couldn't do that and forced me to get a combo plate instead. I added a teriyaki chicken bowl to my order and got something completely different but they insisted that it was the teriyaki chicken bowl. Never going to dine here again. Delicious americanized chinese food! The flavors are closer to authentic despite being tweaked a for an American palate. Orange chicken was warm and crispy even with the sauce over it so you know it was made fresh! Nice chunks of chicken with a light batter. Sweet and sour pork is also delicious with lots of meat with a light batter. Sweet and sour sauce is a mark above all the other food dye red sauces in Chico. They have the b.e.s.t. pho in Chico... BETTER than Pho C&C and Noodle House. Their pho taste like some of the pho I love in San Francisco, and reminds me of homeeeee. When I am looking for cheap but quality food that is not a disgusting fast food burger I come here. I usually get Pha, sometimes the orange chicken combo. The food is always great, but what I found out is that if you order to go, the order is ready much faster than when you say you're eating there. The reason they lost two stars is the cashiers are not friendly, and it is hard to explain what you want most of the time due to a language barrier. It's funny that I find myself going back to this place more than I thought I would. Right off the bat, one thing that made this restaurant really popular is their drive-thru. I mean how often do you see a Chinese restaurant that have that? Not very many. They're pretty fast with the food although you can tell they're always very busy. I like that they have Pho, although it's not the top notch style of Pho you would find elsewhere but Pho is Pho. The food is great but don't expect much from customer service. But I give it four stars as it's cheap and you get plenty of food. I've been going there for the last nine years or so, ever since I moved to Northern California. I just got lunch for me and my wife. I had Sweet and Sour Chicken and she got Lemon Chicken. Both combo meals came with Lo Mein Noodles and Fried Rice plus 24 oz drinks, for $5.25 each. Added a couple of egg rolls, too. The service at the counter wasn't great. I usually go into a place knowing what I want and am quick to order, but I felt very rushed. Food was in my hands within ten minutes and it is made to order. Unlike other places I have been to, there is plenty of sauce on the chicken dishes. My only complaint is that they could augment the Sweet and Sour sauce with pineapple and green peppers (like places I have been to on the east coast do). BUT for a college town where students NEED cheap eats, this is the place to go. Odds are you will have leftovers for the next day, too! read more

Their dry-braised chicken and chow-mein is absolutely unbeatable and at under $10 I don't think there's a better meal in Chico.
