I've only been to Egg Harbor Cafe in Lake Geneva and this was my first time at this location in Barrington. We walked in around 10:30AM on Saturday mor ing and were seated right away (in Lake Geneva I've waited as long as 45+ minutes for a table). This location is large with ample seating and huge windows that let a lot of light in. To drink, we ordered a Cortado and a cappuccino. For lunch we both ordered the combo, a half door county chicken melt and a bowl of chicken rice soup. We both thought the food tasted great but unfortunately it was served cold. So we hadn't been to Egg Harbor in a while, so we went there Saturday and were very happy about how the visit went. For drinks, my father had an Orange juice. My mother, her usual tea, and I had a decaf coffee. Nothing to write to home about. For our entrees, my mother had a side order of biscuits and gravy. It was a single biscuit, cut it half and smothered it is a delicious sausage gravy. She gave it a 4.5 out of 5 My father has the Farmer's Market Benedict. Two lovely English Muffins topped two perfectly poached eggs, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach. Big portion. He could only eat half of it. Brought the rest home. And he had a side of their chicken sausage which was plump, nice crisp to it and juicy. He gave it a 5.0 out of 5.0. I had the San Antonio Skillet. It was chorizo, bacon, jalapenos, onion, tomato and pepper jack cheese. This had potatoes served over it, with scrambled eggs. I had a side of their pancakes and a side of bacon. The chorizo was crispy, the bacon as well. Nice balance of textures between those and the potatoes and onions. Eggs perfectly cooked. Their pancakes were light and delicious. And the bacon was good as well. Other than that, our server Rae, was very polite, very down to earth and happy. Just what a customer wants when eating out. Standard Egg Harbor suburban location. This restaurant serves the same delicious favorites your expect when you dine at any of the restaurants in this chain. Though it is a little more difficult to find than some of the other locations which are more visible off the main road, this parking lot setup is a bit more spacious than what I've seen at other locations. Service is fairly fast and friendly, and the dining room doesn't feel too cramped even when it's busy. In terms of food, the quality of cooking is similar to other Egg Harbor restaurants that I've reviewed. The cooking for me is a bit on the healthier side and I enjoy the flavor combinations that I get here. While there are some more adventurous savory and sweet options available, the standards are always done well here as well. Portion sizes are fairly good and presentation is pretty good as well. Maybe the only thing I'd like to see is a bit better execution on textures here. That is, crispy items should be more crispy -- fluffy items should be more fluffy. But this is probably a result of this restaurant usually being quite busy and therefore I might not be getting the food super fast when it's done cooking from the kitchen. Overall, if you're a fan of Egg Harbor restaurants, this location will serve up your usual favorites. Worth a visit if you're visiting anything in the area and have a craving for a delicious breakfast. read more

I've never had a bad meal at Egg Harbor. I ordered the Door County Melt that is a fancy chicken salad kind of sandwich. It's my favorite. It comes with potatoes and a sm salad. Others in my party ordered the San Antonio Skillet and the Traditional breakfast with Maple Bourbon bacon. The food is always tasty, fresh and plentiful in size. BEST SERVER EVER (not just at this restaurant but anywhere) AWARD GOES TO FILIP!! I've never had a server like him! It's especially rare these days that people take pride in what they do and are as kind as he is. Just a few examples... Although I've been here many times, I've never known they had shredded potatoes and maybe I would like them better in my skillet. So I tried something different (unlike me) and I liked them a lot more. He came to check on us at just the right times to see if we needed anything. He also told me how to make my coffee more sweet if needed (regarding pumps of syrup) and told me if I didn't like it he could get me something else. The 3 of us all had separate checks and all 3 of us gave him great tips to thank him for his exceptional service! Filip deserves a promotion! This particular location has been a common hang out place for my family and friends. The foods have always been good, and the staffs are always friendly and attentive even when they are busy. However, we were quite disappointed today with the food and the service. The restaurant was not overly busy when we were there. Food: Cream of Chicken Wild Rice Soup - it has always been our favorite, especially on a cold Fall day. We were so disappointed when the soups arrived - both cups were luke warm at best! We asked to warm it up, but it didn't come back until we were almost done with the main entrees. The temperature of the soup was warmer, but it was very salty. Other food that we order was ok. It seemed that they have been sitting for a while before serving to us. Service: I was quite surprised by the service today. Aside from the first interaction with the wait staff on taking order and getting the check , we have to call our wait staff about the soups (luke warm) and then follow up to ask if the soups were ready (if not, we were going to cancel then). There was never a check-in in between. So I wasn't sure if it was because we asked to warm up the soup, or something we did. The interior of the restaurant was nice and the espresso drinks were nice. We ordered the kickin bacon and requested crispy bacon. My husband was able to eat one slice only. I wouldn't touch it. For me, it was both burnt and raw. See pic. The poached egg on my food was overcooked (yolk was solid, not runny) and they forgot the hollandaise sauce. Wow - the looseleaf tea here alone is worth having breakfast. The menu is vast, the food prepared quickly and deliciously. Coffee is some of the best restaurant coffee I've ever enjoyed. They have many innovative coffee drinks and menu offerings, as well as a few innovative morning cocktails. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Was very pleased with my first experience at Egg Harbor. I've heard good things, but have never had the opportunity to go until today. I ventured in with my two babies (a 1 1/2 year old and a 3 month old). I was immediately greeted by what I assume was the manager. Very polite and friendly. I recently went to Egg Harbor to meet my sister for breakfast. I was shocked by how amazing the food tasted! In my opinion, most breakfast places usually taste very similar. I don't know what people are birching about Egg Harbor being expensive. It's not even close to being expensive. You want cheap then go to a diner. Service is provided by high school and college kids mostly. They are often sweet and accommodating. Food is quick and good and the coffee is strong. What else do you want?
