As a person who doesn't read French very well, driving through this part of Canada on the way to…read moreMichigan was interesting. I was trying to find a place on our route to stop for breakfast that took credit cards and had staff that spoke English. Ben & Florentine was one of the only options I found, so we decided to give it a go. I'm so glad we did! Located in a strip mall near a grocery store, Ben & Florentine is bright and airy with lots of seating. When greeted in French, the host noticed we didn't respond back in French so grabbed the English menus. We were seated right away and started to look at the menu, which is a 10+ page book! Everything looked and sounded amazing. They have every breakfast item you could possibly think of - smoothies, waffles, french toast, pancakes, crepes, avocado toasts, skillets, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, healthy options, poutine, egg combos, etc. As a huge breakfast lover, I was in heaven! I finally decided on the "Gourmandise" combo which includes 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, applesauce, toast, and half a waffle with almonds, Nutella, chocolate, and more chocolate. It also comes with coffee or tea for $13 CAD. CRAZY! My boyfriend got something a bit healthier - a breakfast sandwich with a side of fruit. Our server was great and spoke English and our food came out quickly. The portions are huge and you get such a variety of food, I was blown away. The potatoes were awesome - they are the seasoned, crispy kind that I love. I'm not usually a waffle person, but this waffle was different - it was light and crispy and airy, not thick and bready like a regular waffle. It was also delicious and a perfect sweet treat to indulge! The only thing I didn't like on the plate was the sausage - it had a strange texture and didn't really taste like anything. I was so surprised and happy with this meal! If I ever am near a Ben & Florentine again I would definitely stop in.

Here's the insider scoop: Schnitzel: Perfectly crisp, gold-fried, and so tender I may or may not have audibly moaned mid-bite. Goulash (for real gouoners): A hearty, rich stew that had my friends waxing poetic about Eastern Europe, right in the South Shore. Sides: Beets and seasonal veggies stole the show; bright, fresh, and seasoned like a chef who actually gives a damn. The décor is charmingly rustic-Bohemian: soft lighting, vintage accents, and enough character to make it feel like you stumbled into a cozy Prague café. It's welcoming, warm, and strangely enchanting. Only downside? They didn't have Pilsner Urquell on tap, and my dream Czech pairing dashed. But the food more than made up for it with flavor heavy enough to forgive a brewery oversight. Would I go back? Absolutely. Bohemia is a solid little European escape; right here in Brossard.

We were initially turned away for not having a reservation, ordered to go and were eventually told we could have a table. My daughter felt we were "profiled" and turned away for being American since after we were sat two other couples came in and were sat who clearly did not have reservations, but spoke French. Truthfully, I was shocked but did not care because the food was so delicious. We had the schnitzel and the duck. If you go, speak French!
