As a woman, it often makes me nervous to go to a mechanic because I feel they are always looking to "find something" so they can charge you and how would I know if it was true or not, right? I was very fortunate to have Tony do my inspection. He was thorough and fast. He identified an issue (bulbs out) and was able to correct it in real time so my car would pass inspection. We had a very bad experience at this shop. We brought our own car battery and asked them to help install it. Before they started, we clearly asked about the price, and the owner told us it would be $8. After finishing the installation, they suddenly told us the price was $80. After arguing, they finally charged us $30, which was still not what we agreed on. They also tried to take our old battery without asking. This felt very dishonest and misleading. The service that I received at this gas station when one of my tires was looking a little low on air was excellent. They have a machine here for filling up your tires with air but I had no idea how to use it so one of the employees came out to my car with me and put some air in the tire as he showed me how to use it. I have also purchased gas for my car here before and the gas attendants that I have dealt with have always been friendly. The gas prices were about average and similar to what I've paid at other gas stations. They do repairs and oil changes on cars here and you can also get a state inspection sticker for your car here. I have had my car inspected here on a couple of occasions. Excellent gas station to come to if you're looking to buy gas and very convenient that you can get your car repairs and state inspections here. read more

Had a nail in my tire causing a slow leak. Called the "big box" store on Hancock Street. I was told I could drop car off that day, but it would take a "couple of days" to repair it. And cost $38. I went on yelp and saw that Egan's had good reviews. I called, was told to come right in. They took me right in, repaired the tire, and it was FREE OF CHARGE!!! Never happens these days, but it did. Everyone needs an honest mechanic. The staff at Egan's treat customers well. They explain any problems with your car, and don't try to upsell you on an expensive fix. For example, I drive a 16 year old car, that I bought used. I've gotten 5 years out of the car, and it's finally time to start looking for the new car as age sets in. The owner of Egan's called me to explain what needed to be fixed on my car to get it to pass inspection, and what should be fixed if I wanted to keep the car for more years. But, he explained that he realizes that since my car is old, the cost of the 2nd repair may not be worth it. I agreed and fixed only what was needed to pass inspection so I can have a few more months to search for a new car. My father-in-law has visited Egan's for years for car repairs, and I'm very glad that he recommended this repair shop to me as well. read more

The staff here is extremely friendly and always willing to help me out. I am a last minute, just show up type of person. Joe welcomes me with a smile each time and takes a look at my truck right away. He is always able to squeeze me in and make sure things are taken care of. I have never left here unhappy, the staff goes above and beyond. I take the 30 minutes drive to bring my vehicle to this location and I suggest others do as well. This place is always great and professional for a car inspection. I went for a sticker a couple of weeks ago, and this was the first automotive-related business I've visited that has actually taken Covid-19 precautions seriously from start to finish. Staff actually wear masks and wear them correctly throughout. I live with a compromised person. I have put off all but the most necessary maintenance. In a comedy of errors I had to visit three reputable tire shops since the summer, including a dealer because they made a mistake that prevented my ability to get new tires three years later. I called ahead to each place to say I live with a compromised person. Each assured me that their staff took precautions throughout the process. None was as thorough as this Sunoco. Horrible service. Suppose get a synthetic oil change and got a regular instead and I didn't say anything. Because I'll change it for another 3000 miles and that's fine, not a big deal. But just leave the oil cap on the top of engine without recap it? Are you serious? I wasn't even know until I just refilled my washer. Oil splash all over the engine area. You got only one job and you screw it. read more

I'd been sideswiped by an ambulance (!) in Maine and was traveling through Quincy to visit friends before heading on another 2 hour drive home. I wanted to check to be sure the tire was safe to drive on. I was able to drop in right away, and they put the car on the lift, showed me that all was well and safe, and didn't charge me before sending me on my way. But in addition, I'd recommend a stop here just for the craic. The non-moustached brother Egan (I didn't meet the mustached one) is a sweetheart and his younger employees are also friendly. He's a storyteller who knows how to deal with chatty regulars (hi Hef!). I know it's not a tourist attraction, but as a transplant from Texas, I can't get enough of the Quincy accent. The folks at Egan's definitely belie the stereotype of the initially-dour New Englander. Thanks guys! read more

I'm sorry to report that, after getting gas at Egan's for years, I must seek out another station.. After getting bad gas in both my car AND my wife's car (same trip we both filled up on the way to a car show) we can't afford to do this again. The fuel had something in it, which clogged up our fuel pumps, filter(s) and injectors. It cost us hundreds of dollars to get our systems cleaned and flushed out to where it was BEFORE our last fill up. This is a shame, because we've always trusted the Sunoco name. read more

I want to like this place, it's nearby. However I went in for an inspection and the guy noticed a sound, just a sound and said "I know what that is, come in tomorrow and we can fix that for $20." I do my own work on cars, I've rebuilt engines. Well I already knew what it was and it sure isn't a $20 fix. The part alone costs $70. I got it done somewhere else. read more

I'll admit it; I know nothing about cars. So when someone tells me there's a problem with mine, my first reaction is disbelief. I've never felt that way Egan's. It's my oil change place, my inspection sticker place and if they ever tell me something about my car, like how all four of my tires had dry rot (totally confirmed with a second opinion btw), they're being truthful. My experiences are always quick with zero hassle. I'd say their prices are competitive but I'll pay a little extra for the comfort level. I've also used their sister garage, Tower. I don't know how much more severe my car problem was compared to the one star reviewer's but they aligned my tires and took the time to address an addition issue I had with my breaks, told me what it was, why it was happening and fixed it. I'm not made of money and didn't feel like the final bill was anything ridiculous. read more

I had been using Egan Sunoco for many years for "skilled mechanic" work but my latest experience has reaffirmed this practice. I "bit" on a national auto service chain coupon for a $9.95 oil change and was told by the chain I needed $500 work ffor tires/tie rod/allignment. I then took the car to Egan and his inspection revealed I only needed a $20 tire rotation. Egan will now do ALL l my skilled mechanic work as well as routine oil changes. Pay a little more for the oil change and get peace of mind as well. read more

After two full tuneups in the last near on my 2002 Jetta for various sounds and performance issues, I brought it to Egan for a punctured tire. I dropped it off on a Monday night and spoke with them at 4pm the following day. They had already repaired the tire and replaced a bracket on my muffler. Total cost $60. Two months later the tire is holding up strong, the sound is gone and the car is running as well as it has in years. They were friendly, quick, inexpensive and effective.
