Barbacoa quesadilla with side of avocado salsa

Efren's is located off of Orangethorpe, east of Chapman Ave. It is easy to locate and access. Parking is decent, although 2 large catering vans seem to always take up spots right outside of their door. The inside is somewhat on the small side, accommodating about half a dozen tables. Food is ordered at the counter and is brought to your table when it's ready. The menu boards give basic info on their offerings and prices are not displayed, so your cost is a surprise when you're ready to pay They do offer daily specials, but again, prices aren't written out. The only prices displayed are for their Taco Tuesday specials: $1 street tacos with choice of 5 different meats, their Friday seafood taco specials, and (because Christmas is approaching) the tamale pricing. The girls working the counter were pleasant and efficient. I went with the Wednesday daily special of quesadillas, choosing barbacoa for my protein. No sides come with it. I wanted to try their beans & rice so I added a small side of each. The tacos sounded good, too, so I added a shrimp taco as well. The quesadilla was quite large and generously filled with barbacoa. It was nicely seasoned with a nice little kick of spice. The beans and rice were just average, and I found the beans to be too soupy. The shrimp taco was good with 4 plump shrimp that topped a cabbage mix and pico de gallo. The cabbage gave it a nice crunch and the sauce that topped it all was a nice finishing touch. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ended up bringing the beans and rice and half of the quesadilla home. There is a salsa bar in the dining area where you can choose from 3 different salsas, limes, cilantro, or a mix of cilantro & cebolla. Overall a pleasant experience, but nothing really stood out as crave-worthy.

Pasta Bowl, fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp.

I just learned they have a pasta bowl option. With Mondays being their pasta bowl special. Waited for a Monday to give it a chance and cashier states the special is no longer being honored. If you want it, it's at full menu price. Ordered anyways figured was already prepared to give it a shot. Granted pasta at a Mexican restaurant. Not bad, but wouldn't spend $13+ on it again. ‍ Forgoing the sale after learning about it left a bad taste in the experience. Especially when all their menu's still display it in front of you.

Amazing! great choices and pricing! Place is really clean and cool. Been going here for a while now!

Dropped in here randomly and got bomb burritos. $7 something for large burritos. I got barbacoa and my husband got carne asada. He got his with onions/cilantro, cheese and rice. I got mine with refried beans and rice. (I would have gotten cilantro but it's mixed with their raw onion which my stomach doesn't tolerate sadly). So good! I would have posted a photo of our burritos but they smelled so delicious we devoured them quickly. We went at an off time so there wasn't much of a wait. They made them fresh to order. They have mobile pay for contactless payment which is convenient and you can get your receipt emailed to save paper which is super cool. They have a few tables outside for outdoor dining but it's hot today so we took our order to go and they wrapped the burritos in foil lined paper which kept them nice and warm. Fast, friendly, delicious! Highly recommend!

Disappointed. My food lacked flavor and had metal in it from the foil being cut. Would not return

Everyone has a Taco Trail, a Taco Map, Taco Tour, whatever you wanna call it. You know, those taco…read morespots you have to hit when you need a fix. And if you don't have one, you should probably remedy that. And when you have one, be sure to add this place to it. We took a little week long road trip to Disneyland with the kiddos, and of course was craving a little Taco time. The Wifey, being much more up to date on this social media stuff, found this place on that "Insty gram" thingy. So we headed over. It's only a 10-15 minute drive from Disney, but after trying it, would gladly drive a hell of a lot further. It's a Disney themed taco spot! The decor is cool, the owner and his staff are even cooler, and the food is awesome!!! I thought the "Tacos Chingones" were gonna be regular street tacos, but nooo... these things were epic! The "Gobernador," grilled shrimp, with cheese and house made pico, on fresh corn tortillas. The beeer battered fish taco with cabbage, house pico, sour cream and secret sauce. The pork belly taco, with onions, cilantro, avocado sauce and pickled onions, that really helped balance out that deliciously unctuous porky pig. AMAZING!!!! Then, they have a whole separate Birria menu!!! So of course, being a fat kid, I had to try the Birria Quesadilla. It was loaded with delicious, slow cooked, beef Birria and melty, gooey, stretchy Oaxaca cheese. You could taste all the spice notes, the cinnamon, cloves, thyme and Mexican Oregano all singing in harmony with the Pasilla, Guajillo and Arbol chilies. Then that consommé... that delicious preserved broth oozing with Birria goodness. Puts it right on par with the best roast beef and French dip you've ever had. And I'm not even gonna go into the house made, family recipe salsas sitting there conveniently at the table, ready to set your food on next level fire!!! Especially the "Chikali" salsa. Created by the owner himself, this sauce is literally fire. Spicy, but not overly, and so, so flavorful! If he doesn't start bottling them and selling them, he's doing himself and the taco community a disservice. Anywho... I washed it all down with a couple of delicious, ice cold Pacifico cerveza's and called it a night. I left full, fat and happy. Fueled up and ready to hit the park again in the morning. The moral of the story is, if you're anywhere near Anaheim and you're craving some good, modern, Mexican food, be sure to put this place on your Taco itinerary. And if you're not craving Mexican food, reevaluate your life decisions and go here anyway. You'll be glad you did. That is all!

There were only two parties at the restaurant, already seated, and no one behind us; so there was no excuse since there was no rush. The food is very salty, greasy. Nachos were soggy because heavily sauce. Bathroom are dirty. Please clean. Parking lot is rough. Won't be back. Do not recommend.
