My time in this particular branch of EE, out of the three(!) in the Thistles Centre, was brief but went as follows:
Me: 'I was next door in Carphone Warehouse and they were unable to upgrade my contract. They think it's because my last bill payment won't have cleared till Monday, can you confirm this?'
Mr. EE: 'I've checked the system and I can confirm this. Monday it has to be.'
In reality, I wanted to yell 'BUT SIR, I JUST SAT SIX HOURS OF PHILOSOPHY EXAMS OVER THE LAST THREE DAYS...IPHONE = REWARD. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.' But instead...
Me: 'So there's no way?'
Mr. EE: 'No...Sorry.'
Me: 'That's okay, I think next door's tariff with EE is cheaper, could you possibly match their price?'
Mr. EE: 'We possibly could! Let me see...'
Me: 'Okay, that'd be great!'
Mr. EE: 'I'm sorry, I've checked and we really couldn't match that.'
Mr. EE was friendly and as helpful as he could be but I'm puzzled. After looking at EE's tariffs online, their upfront costs to cover the phone are extortionate. I can pop in to Carphone Warehouse on Monday and get the same phone on the same network with the exact same data, minutes and texts for a fraction of the price upfront and at a decent monthly cost.
