They do not get paid on commission but they still manage to spend as much time as needed per customer. I had the option of a closer phone store but this is worth the drive. Brief review as was served quickly…read more Any phone issues then seems like the place to come as they deal with Samsungs and Nokias. A few people were in store when I arrived but I got served quickly. I was in about a laptop charger. Staff didn't have it in stock and checked online. They advised me (after checking themselves) for me to replace from Amazon rather than ordering from Samsung as I'd save at least £20. They helpfully pointed out what product code to search for. So, good service and being helpful so I can save some cash. I'd pop in again if I thought they could help :-)

CUSTOMERS BEWARE…read more Just had a very bad experience with these "guys". Took my wife's 7month old S6 in to get the charging port repaired. Whilst I was happy with the timescale (4pm the same day), they proceeded to tell me that the damage was down to my wife "jamming" in the power cable. Not withstanding this, they refused to deal with this under the warranty and a bit of an argument broke out. Nevertheless, as it was to be fixed that day, we reluctantly agreed to the price (very reasonable). When I went back to pick the phone up (3.45pm), I was told that there was a "problem"; even though they said they would phone in that eventuality. It turned out that the screen was not powering up. Now this is where the fun really starts. 1st off, the "Manager" asked if anyone had done anything to the phone before they got their hands on it... I informed them that no one had opened it at all as it was brand new. Furthermore, the only other people to look at it was the Carphone Warehouse Geek Squad who recommended them in this first place as they didn't want to touch it. After the Manager was told in no uncertain terms that information, he started to get "het up" and developed an "attitude". After being advised to calm down, he agreed that he/they would foot the cost of replacing the screen... just as well as he/they damaged it as it was working perfectly well when we arrived; after all they had to get the PUK code from the phone by dialing in the relevant number! Though I wasn't happy at leaving the phone as my wife has MS and needs it, I had no choice. Again I was advised that they would phone and let me know when it was done. I also voiced my displeasure at having to come back into Edinburgh, incurring further expense. Tuesday came and no call. I called that afternoon and was told the part was on order and awaiting it coming in. Nothing else but to wait Wednesday came and again no call. I called mid morning and was advised that the part had arrived and they were fitting it as we spoke. I was asked to call back after 2pm. I called back after 2pm and was told the repair was still ongoing. I called back twice more and on the 2nd one (5.45pm) I was told it was ready for pick up. As they close at 6 and I live nearly 30miles away, that day was impossible. And so to today. I arrived just after 1pm and pickup the phone. I am please to report they did fix it and everything is fine. However the "attitude" soon returned when I asked for compensation for the inconvenience caused to myself and wife, along with the extra traveling expenses. The Manager took over from the shop assistant and proceeded to tell me that the only reason he replaced the screen was out of courtesy to me as the warranty had expired. Again he was reminded that the phone was only 7 months old. He then told me they had found superglue inside the case and that "obviously" someone had been in before him/them to repair it. Again it was pointed out to them that the phone was brand new from the Carphone Warehouse and when told that, he said it was obviously a refurbished phone. Again he was informed that it was not the case and he was welcome to check with them and Samsung! Eventually he relented and gave me a reduction in the cost, to cover my traveling expenses, nothing else. Grudgingly he took my money telling that he had learned a lesson today. When I asked he what that was, he replied, "never give a customer a freebie". I told him the lesson he should have learned was "not to break customer phones". Ultimately Samsung need to do a better job of licensing these sorts of franchises to do their work for them... if you go to them, watch them like hawks and don't take any old rubbish from them!

The only good thing I currently have to say about the Carphone Warehouse is that the girl who sold me my phone last year could not have been more pleasant or helpful and was at no point pushy or condescending the way a lot of assistants in phone shops are these days. However she did talk me into an insurance policy, which, given my terminal clumsyitis seemed a steal at £3.99 per month. Hah! As I walked out the shop clutching my shiny new purchase of 21st century-ism (my first smartphone, woohoo!) and a bag full of my insurance paperwork and such, things started to go downhill. I had been told it would take the usual 12-24 hours to connect, but that it would be likely I would be connected that evening, and if I wasn't connected after 24 hours to call them. So far, so fine. 48 hours later (I decided to exercise patience for once), I called them to let them know I wasn't connected. They assured me there was a problem that week with Orange connections, it was not their issue and that I should contact my network. So I did. And was batted back and forth between Orange and the Carphone Warehouse both denying responsibility and both being very dismissive and unhelpful (Carphone Warehouse more so it has to be said). It was a week and a half before I was connected. Not chuffed. Anyway. The only real cause I'd had to gripe about since is the lack of customer care regarding my insurance policy direct debit. I have had no end of grief with this thing. It comes off on a different day every month, it's sometimes 4 weekly and sometimes not (even adjusting for bank holidays etc) and it's been taken off twice in one month at times (3 bloody times in July for some reason). I have called them umpteen times to try and arrange this for a specific date only to be dismissed with an ''it's on the system and it's definitely on a monthly cycle''. Eh no, no it isn't pal. My bank statement is often cruelly honest with me and it tells me when you've decided to take your pennies in plain black and white. There is clearly a problem at their end somewhere and while it has yet to cause me any problems regarding a returned DD or anything of that nature, it's irritating and should not be happening. I have had refunds where it's been taken off several times, but only after long arduous debates on the landline, costing probably what the amount taken off was worth anyway. They are dismissive, at times quite rude and to be honest, I don't think I'll be wasting any time with them again when this contract expires.

Had assumed that any place so close to the town centre would rip me off, and tried a few before this one that were almost certainly 'upselling' the amount of repair work I needed to get done. For context - my phone screen had become slightly dislodged (not broken in any way). Apple would only offer £90 for a screen replacement. Other shops would only offer £40-70 for replacement too. Cables and chips told me that this was a possibility, but they would look at the level of internal damage and see if this was necessary, talking me through the whole thing. So I let them take a look. They concluded (as I had suspected myself) that nothing was broken and the screen just needed to be glued back into place - it seems that when the gadget was refurbished it got too little glue. They did this very quickly, and charged me £5 for it!! Not only this, they also carefully packed my phone, looked after it for me, and put it on charge while the new glued dried. I left with a robust, fully charged phone, and my wallet not much lighter. It's a few weeks later now and my phone is still working like new, so I'm certain I made the right choice - the other shops really were just scaremongering to get more money out of me. That, or they didn't have the confidence or expertise to do anything other than a standard screen replacement, never mind what was best for the customer. I've been recommending this place to people all over and frankly wouldn't take my phone anywhere else now. I also bought a screen protector there as a bit of a thank you, and the lady behind the counter cleaned my phone and applied it for me there and then, all the while giving me tips about how to do it myself in case I needed to apply one in future. All in all a really excellent experience, especially compared to the rest of the pack. Feels like getting the mates' rates even if you've never met them before. Absolutely recommend.

My quest for a shiny new mobile phone lead me to 3 Store on Princes Street…read more I had never really heard of the Network 3 before, which made me think that maybe it wasn't as good as O2 or Orange, but I went in to have a browse anyway. This 3 Store is pretty big and stocks plenty of mobiles, as well as loads of internet gadgety type things that are totally alien to me. I'm surprised I can even turn on the computer sometimes. The sales assistant who helped me in here was really helpful, gave me some good advice and didn't try to force me into a contract that I wasn't sure about, which was refreshing for a mobile phone store where the assistants are usually full on. I left with nothing, but I am seriously considering taking out one of their I-Phone contracts if I can get a wee bit more info about it all. Great service in store which made all the difference to my shopping experience!

I was able to easily swap out my U.S. SIM card for a UK SIM card that had a plan for 4GB of data for 1 month for £15. Amazing. We have nothing this cheap or easy in the U.S. Everything is "you must buy fancy phone X from us at mega upcharge, pay the phone itself off in monthly installments, and get this data plan from us as well that is $80 a month minimum and you have to have this plan for at least a year or you break your contract." Land of the free and home of the deceived.
